@manpoya1 I believe this page took me about 12 hours. At the time I was using Photoshop for the whole thing. I now use MangaStudio Ex for my pencils/inks and Ed Ryzowski finishes it with colours in Photoshop.
next time you do those pretty light effects, would you mind doing a period of slower fast forward during that time so we amateurs might have a bit of a tutorial?
ill just say i love this comic and especially richard he made my day :D the rest of characters are good too but i was just mesmerized by richards way of killing. Super job mr Lar deSouza and thank you for a buch of laughts :).
I am a novice artist, trying to find my knack at stuff, finally got out of the burn and dodge phase >.> but still struggle so much with coloring... you make it look so easy!!! ARG...lol... anyhow, point, yes I have one, you are an inspiration to me ^^ Gorgeous work and the comic itself is a blast to read! very funny stuff, but its the art that has me hooked! keep up your amazing work! Thank you so much for sharing this ^^
Ah, so great. I wrote a paper on you guys for my Vector Graphics class...though I suppose I lied to them, since I decided to tell the teacher you guys used Adobe Illustrator instead of Photoshop. (Yes I did my research and found out you guys used Photoshop before making that adjustment in my paper).
Oh, man, I never thought about how much work has been put to make LFGComic look as awesome as it is... These three Making of -vids made me look at the comic in even greater light. As in page 70... "Hail!"
Could you tell me which version of Photoshop and what tablet model do you use, please? I'd also appreciate if you gave me some advice on tablet purchasing, I want to start a webcomic and I have like 300€ to spend on a tablet, but I'm totally green in these things... Thanks in advance, keep up the good job! :)
I enjoy making art myself very much, but I admit to knowing nothing of using computers in the artist's field. I have greatly respected the level of skill in the Looking For Group artwork since I started reading the comic, and it's really great being able to watch it being put together.
Oh my god...i Love LFG SO MUCH! the story is halarious and Enthralling! And the artwork is Beauitful! I Have the richard blanket, plushie and VOL 1+2 :D
hmmm. ok im fine with the comic its AWSOME! but... Do the females REALY need to have giant tits on EVERY SINGLE PAGE! I mean i have no probs but its kinda rediculous ahhaha
this is amazing, an incredible hard work to do for only single page. i loved the way you made it through the three videos, its impressive how much work you have to do to get a page done, i'm sure i'll remember it every time i read LFG =D
no im so sorry i know your ego tells you its a man eating mountain but its true it is a Taruen :C i wish it was a man eating mountain .... cuse i want one :3
Oh my god. I never knew making comics can be THAT fun! :o I know this will sound kinda stupid, but do you think I could draw like you if I practice? ^^ I'd love to make comics, I also have a friend I was trying to make one with. It was great, but we didn't have the needed equipment and were a bit young.
Btw. I wish there were 3 strips / day, lol. This comic is marvelous.
Just... Wow.... I read many Webcomics but yours is true Artwork on any page. I'm interested in how the shadows and highlights are done though. I read that you use hard light and soft light but the more interesting thing is do you use some single kind of shadow and highlight colour or a different one for each base colour? I experimented with using black and white on another layer with low opacity but the results are... mediocre at least....
you start off knowing where the light source is, everything in the image has to have the same light source or it won't look right as a whole, then the opposite sides of things will have a lowlight, and the side facing the light will have a highlight, the rest in a mid-tone
It's all about being able to get your head around the shape of objects in a scene in 2 dimensions, even in a 2d image
I was always yelled at by other artists for using burn & dodge tools in my pieces; someone as talented as yourself, Lar, shows that those tools are extremely useful in many ways - getting that bright light or just the right dark shadow.
I'm *not* using burn and dodge. I find those tools too 'heavy'. You need a very delicate hand to make those work for you. I use masks, curves, adjustment layers mostly, and good ol' fashioned colour picking and painting.
I don't despise Burn and Dodge, but they weren't made for a painter. They were made for photographers and they are often misused by novice artists.
this is INCREDIBLE, im amazed at what you have done here. i have been reading the comic and fallen in love with richard and the other characters. i never realized just how much work went into each episode. this is almost enchanting to watch, you put incredible amounts of effort into this. amazing work. thank you
Interesting. As someone that uses Photoshop almost exclusively now when I draw, I'm curious as to a few of the things you use.
First, do you have vectoring enabled in your Photoshop settings? If so, how did you manage it? Second, how did you get the bubbles to surround the text so easily? I've always had to do them manually. Third...well, I'm running out of space.
Either way, as someone that loves tinkering with PS to draw, I'd love to be let in on a couple of your secrets. XD
I've never heard of vectoring in Photoshop. That's just a steady hand and a regular round paint brush for my inking. I do use the shape tool for my word bubbles.
What program is that? Also what are they using to make the movie? Flash, Toon Boom? I'm very curious.
BTW, just seeing this only brings out just how much work and effort it takes to produce the quality work that they show on their comics. You just gotta respect it after seeing it come to life bit by bit.
Thank you. The other night, I had a discussion with someone about this. This was where we had a point of disagreement. I think I have a better idea how to broaden horizons now.
@lardesouza bro, what kind of tablet are you using? (and art program) i wanna try this. i already have experiance drawing free hand, but i wanna make sure i start off right electronically.
i hear-by swear to never again complain that the web comic hasn't updated 'yet' and to patiently await the next great work of art you work so diligently to bring to us easily amused monkeys.

I'm pretty sure he said he just has a collection of the colors he uses for these saved as another file so he can just open it and grab the colors he wants from it.
Wow Lar, I am just in love with your style. I don't know how many times I've watched these videos over and over again. Keep up the good work! FOR FELBUNNY!

I was wondering how you made this, too. :D This is such a cool comic, and it looks like you enjoy making it as much as we love reading it! Keep up the good work!
Wow, watching this inspires me to make my own comic :O But do you really use photoshop for this? I have to say: I worship your artistic skills dude. Great work!
Not only do you do this twice a week but you also do LICD six times a week. I've been reading both regularly for the past couple months and both have been pretty regular. Simply amazing. And that doesn't even include any other personal projects that you might be working on. My pen cap is off to you sir.
Very impressive. I'm a big fan of LICD and LFG, especially the artwork. And I love how you use burn/dodge for all the shading. I still remember the person who was teaching me how to use photoshop for art and stuff telling me never to use them, they're the devil :3
It's actually NOT burn/dodge. I find they don't give enough control over value and instead change saturation levels dramatically. I use a lot of masking layers and things like Overlay/soft light/hard light, as well as good ol' fashioned painting.
"FOR PONY" i am a huge fan of your comic ...but u dont deliver and i cant find it in my country so the only thing i have left is your website ...thx a lot mate u make some rainy dayes feel sunny
I belive that the Archmage from Issue 2# is the living version of Richard. They both like robes they both got long fingers and same head shape same height and also that Richard says ''You look familiar''
*sigh* I like seeing Krunch again :(
Eneicia2011 2 months ago

I hope you go back to it soon.

Great work!

Very Nice Job sir.

Not only do you do this twice a week but you also do LICD six times a week. I've been reading both regularly for the past couple months and both have been pretty regular. Simply amazing. And that doesn't even include any other personal projects that you might be working on. My pen cap is off to you sir.

I really need to post an FAQ somewhere :)
It's all Photoshop.

Sorry just my poor attempt at a pun.
Covo375 3 years ago
No no. It was a good pun. That comment was for another poster, that seems to have evaporated. Weird that it went onto your post. Whatever ;)
Thanks for the kind words.

I just watched all 3 and I'm truly amazed and inspired by watching you do that! What's the size of the page you draw on?

My God, so much work! It looks excellent. I love the comic.

Very impressive. I'm a big fan of LICD and LFG, especially the artwork. And I love how you use burn/dodge for all the shading. I still remember the person who was teaching me how to use photoshop for art and stuff telling me never to use them, they're the devil :3
Keep up the awesome work!
howtorideabike 4 years ago
It's actually NOT burn/dodge. I find they don't give enough control over value and instead change saturation levels dramatically. I use a lot of masking layers and things like Overlay/soft light/hard light, as well as good ol' fashioned painting.
Thanks for commenting :) Later!

I belive that the Archmage from Issue 2# is the living version of Richard. They both like robes they both got long fingers and same head shape same height and also that Richard says ''You look familiar''

Damn- well drawn , well written and there have been loads.
I feel rubbish (i fall into none of the categories)...
It must take ages to do all that- i'm still doing hand drawing, painting with gouache and then scanning in.

Gouache is not an easy medium!! Good on you for working in it. Digital paint is way more forgiving :)
