  • Everytime Knopfler sings, god kills a kitten.

  • Wow!it's simply magic just watching the legend n who needs proper music when the gr8 legends' music is around!! No sir! Give me the, gr8 in fact the gr8est legend alive or not alive,Mark Knopfler anytime anywhere!

  • DAmn! Knopfler come on Australia Tour, will ya??..

    Please.....

  • Is that Mrs. Weasley?

  • "Fender is one of the most beautiful words in the English language!" :-)

  • Nice bloke.

  • I'm fancying Julie Walters !

  • If I shook Mark's hand I would put it on my resume.

  • @cheesynounou your resume cant be that impressive then.

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD it would

  • wow....such simple things inspire a genius.

Good thing he's my idol, have a lot to learn from him :).

  • I learned to play because of Mark, 27 years and still going !! Thanks Mark

  • Hawaiian noises

  • not only my childhood guitar hero, but what a lovely human being this guy is...

  • So Mark recalls last performing with Dire Straits at the Nelson Mandela concert in '88 and then again about a decade later at John Illsley's wedding. Now, I know it's not possible to remember every single gig that you've ever done, but surely forgetting an entire World tour in 1992 is one Hell of a memory lapse!

  • @azapro911 That's funny. But I think think he means that they "got together for a good reason", in terms of reunion, in both cases.

  • @DogSwede1 Good point. He didn't really enjoy the On Every Street tour because it threw him back into "Brothers in Arms" stress territory, so you could be right.

  • He could have at least made an effort and dressed up a bit since he was going to be on Parkinson. He is dressed like he is going to go for a morning jog.

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD that is a very stupid observation. unless you were just joking

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD who cares.. hes mark knopfler!

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD so what.....

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings were told to "Dress up " if they wanted to perform on The Grand Ole Opry. Needless to say they did not and became known as the outlaws of country music. Once they had a hit song the Opry had no choice but to let them on how ever they dressed.

  • marks mum is english..his dad is hungarian, he was born in england, then he moved to glasgow as a young boy, if your going to argue about facts at,least do some research.. arm chair fans on youtube get on my wick and you two plonkers below me take it to your message box. i for one dont want to read your enduring love for each other

  • @dean24uk Yes, so Knopfler's British then, like I said. Thanks for checking Wiki for me! Anyway, are you the youtube police. I don't think you are so you're in no position to tell me what I can post where.

  • @chickengeorge69 my older brother is a big fan, and ive heard it off him a few times, wiki is not always correct. so i don,t use it. but im sure it would be correct being based on a biography, and i never said anything about not commenting here, just keep it relevant so people can respond accordingly, its not so hard to do.. goodbye

  • @dean24uk i think it was the other way around:Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on 12 August 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, to an English mother and Hungarian Jewish father—an architect whose anti-fascist sympathies forced him to flee from his native Hungary.[7] The family settled in Knopfler's mother's home town of Blyth, Northumberland in North East England when he was 7 years old.

  • By te way, DIRE STRAITS´s music is absolutely magic. I got almost all DS cd´s.

  • Mark Knopfler has Scottish blood in his veins so that makes him Scottish and British. Also Sicilians are also Italians.

  • @chickengeorge69 How dare you. I am not Italian :O Im Sicilian :)

  • BEWARE EVERYBODY : DUMBASS DETECTED IN THE PERSON OF THESICILIANTOE

I WANTED TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL.

  • cosa dice in italiano quando ha preso la les paul ?

  • @HellmichMICHAEL Its name, if you mean the guitar with sunburst colour, is Gibson Advanced Jumbo.

  • @HellmichMICHAEL I might have the name for you, it's a resonator guitar from the brand Ellis I think

  • i can't hear :/

  • @toxicitysugarbabe open your ears =))

  • If there's one thing in this World that is more Northern than a Scottish Geordie, it's Michael Parkinson.

  • I like mark knopfler, not so keen on parkinson, jus my opinion, he seems humble man, (mark ) it's good to see,and yea he's gifted songwriter, musician.

  • I just want him to solo tunnel of love sooooo bad right now

  • He plays guitar as easily as I type this. And I'm so stinkin' jealous!!!! :)

  • 4 dislikes?? i'd love to know what these 4 pp didn't like tho!!! Mark u'r a LEGEND hope to see u soon alongside Bob Dylan!!

  • Who is the other guest? Looks like Julie Walters.

  • I love Money for Nothing. It's epic when he plays it.

  • Mark has been a major influence on my songwriting. If you want, check it by clicking "MrAlvarda" down below. Songs like "Turn around", "Train of life" or "Corporate World" are definitely the closest to his style.

  • jjj

  • Gotta check out the fridge, need some inspiration :p

  • why are all the great artits british? :P

  • @TheLovemusicguy because of our climate ( i reckon)

  • @TheLovemusicguy because we listen to music all the time

  • @TheLovemusicguy hahaha did u mean to say 'artits' ? hahaha, don't forget the Irish too...

  • @TheLovemusicguy marks not British hes Scottish.

  • @theSicilianToe REALLY?:O

Well either way a lot of great artist are british, but it was jsut a joke so no offense

  • @theSicilianToe lol its okay I know what you meant. dire straits would be categorized as british rock but hes from Glasgow. if you want another great scot have a youtube for malcolm tucker ! you wont be disappointed!

  • @theSicilianToe You really ought to know what you're talking about before posting. Mark Knopfler's british!

  • @chickengeorge69 no he isnt he was born in glasgow. thats in scotland you turd

  • @theSicilianToe This is what you are not understanding. The Scots are British as are the English, Welsh and Northern Irish. No need to call me a turd when you are the one that's wrong.

  • @chickengeorge69 For the record : the british come from or live in the UK ( England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland ). No matter where you come from, you have the british citizenship. Only the republic of Ireland is not part of the UK. Thanks in advance for your comprehension.

  • @scaramosca80 Scottish are not British. Jesus. That is like saying Sicilians are Italians.

  • @theSicilianToe Then you still don't understand that Scotland is in Great-Britain, that's why scottish are british as well as the welsh, the english and the northern irish ! Gosh how can someone be so ignorant ? How can you persist in your error ?

  • @scaramosca80 Its not an error. You are being really dumb.....

  • @theSicilianToe I'm Welsh but I'm first and foremost British, which is why I belong to the BNP..

  • @theSicilianToe Ok smart arse the Scottish are not British, so do me a favour. Being a scot, explain to me why I have a British passport. Why are Scots part of the Great Britain team in the olympics? . Or you can admit your quite thick and too ignorant to know better

  • @chickengeorge69 For heaven's sake please help me to make thesiciliantoe understand that scottish people are british. The guy is so dumb that he keeps hammering away at me that they're not without even verifying the truth. Pathetic. A real turd in his own league.

  • @scaramosca80 lol You mad? Sorry. Scots arent British. Glad all you idiots think being a national makes you a brit. Dumbasses.

  • @theSicilianToe World's most epic fail I've ever seen so far. You made my day. Do yourself a favour by opening a geography book. I suggest this in your own interest.

Almostakiwi has stated a fact that you're totally unable to deny.: "being a scot, explain to me why I have a british passport ?" English, scottish, welsh and northern irish passports do not exist. The citizenship is british. Get back to us when you're schooled. You failed.

  • @scaramosca80 The guy is fucking Scottish. That is like calling a Sicilian an Italian. They are two different ethnicity and just because they live in the UK doesnt mean that theyre British you are really stupid. Scottish people are Scottish. Theyre Scottish. Call them Scottish. Do not call the Irish British. Dont call the Scottish British. Call them by what they are, which is what their bloodline is. You people are turds.

  • @theSicilianToe Im an American btw, but I dont tell people I am an American. I am Sicilian. That is my bloodline. I am an American national. That is not representative of my skin color, hair color, the color of my eyes. Being an American national has no influence on my physical appearance.

  • @theSicilianToe You definitely get your facts straight before coming to hasty assumptions. No rudeness nor blame intented

  • @theSicilianToe Bloody hell, I can't believe I go away to Tunisia for 10 days(on my British passport) and you are still going on about the Scots not being British! I'm sure you must be on a wind up because nobody is that stupid. I was born in England so I should know who's who in my neighbouring countries.

  • @chickengeorge69 If you were Scottish you would not be offended by somebody calling you British? lol. Youre not British if you are a Scottsman. Youre Scottish. And BTW, you just came back from Tunisia after 10 days and youre still ranting about the same thing?

  • @theSicilianToe I'm ranting still because I was trying to educate you but obviously that's impossible. So I'm English, does that make me English or British or both?

  • @chickengeorge69 Youre an English national but youre British, yeah. Why run away from your heritage? Im an American national, but I am Sicilian.

  • @theSicilianToe But a Scotish national is also British. Why do you think only the English are British? I don't understand.

  • @chickengeorge69 I didnt say you arent an English national.. you all just assumed it lol. Hes a Scott. That is whats in his blood. English nationalism isnt coursing through his veins, the blood of his ancestors are. I dont think you guys are really understanding what I am saying here lol. Yes, hes an English National, but no he isnt British. If he was British he would have British blood in his veins. He has Scottish blood in his veins.

  • @theSicilianToe That´s ok. What you´re saying. But KNOPFLER sound like a german last name isn´t?

  • @CarlloLombardo I would bet that Knopfler's entire family despised the Germans. He was born in 1949. His father was a Hungarian Jew. His name sounds pretty English to me. His mother was English.

  • @theSicilianToe Of course he's british because Scotland is in Great-Britain. He was born in Glasgow (Scotland) and grew up in Newcastle (England). Do you get the idea now ? For heaven's sake, get your facts straight before coming to hasty assumptions. You're making a complete ass of yourself. Besides that, you've agreed with chickengeorge69. We never stop learning from our mistakes. Keep this quote in mind.

  • @theSicilianToe scottish is british, in the same way that english is british. british and english aren't synonymous, by saying he was british it doesnt mean that we are sating he is english

  • @frazerpmobrien Scottish is not English... and if you call a Scott English the chances are hell shove his foot so far up your ass youd think the sun was coming through your mouth. He is not English. Hes Scottish.

  • @theSicilianToe hence my comment, if you re read it you'll see, but if you call a scot british unless they are an SNP obsessive they probably won't care.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @theSicilianToe Yeah, you can tell by that Geordie accent, right? Anyway, the Scottish are British, or would you prefer to join the SNP and be enslaved to the EUSSR forever and be dictated to by unelected bureaucrats?

Be a man, join the BNP. I'm Welsh but I'm first and foremost British.

  • @Maxshard I love Great Britain. Im not saying anything bad about it. I am simply saying Knopfler is Scottish. They have a bigger sex appeal then the British. I understand hes a national but hes still a Scot by blood.

  • @theSicilianToe His mother is English, I think his dad came form outside Scotland. If my parents had been on holiday in China when my mum gave birth to me, would that make me Chinese?

  • @theSicilianToe Still going on then! Who are the British, can you explain?

  • @chickengeorge69 Can you explain what we are not? Are you one of those dumb trendy left wing genealogicallly suicidal mutli-cultural, self righteous nutcases who belives there are no such thing as the British people?

Wouldn't dare say that about an African nation would you, or the Japanese, or the Chinese? That would make you racist right?

  • @Maxshard Alright, wind your neck in tosser. Was I asking you that question? No, I was asking the Italian from Sicily who insists on stating Knopfler is not British.

  • @chickengeorge69

Well before requesting that I should wind my own neck in, may I suggest that calling me a tosser is not exactly conducive to mutual agreement?

Sorry if I misinterpreted your comment but I think you should wind your own neck in a little and recognise who your political friends are.

  • @Maxshard neither is calling me a dumb trendy left wing genealogicallly suicidal mutli-cultural, self righteous nutcase! so long Taffy.

  • @chickengeorge69 I enquired as to whether that was what you are, I didn't necessarily accuse you of being such a diabolical entity.

Don't you think branding me 'Taffy' is a little racist? This is coming from a member of the BNP by the way.

'Taffy is a Weshman, Taffy is a thief, Taffy came to our house and stole our beef'.

Ironic that this ditty developed from the huge number of theiving English debt owers that crossed Offa's Dyke to escape debt collectors and subsequent imprisonment.

  • @Maxshard I called you Taffy cos I knew you'd bite. Anyway, the English get called all sorts of names. Do I care? No. Life's too short to worry about it. The racist card is played too much these days. Anyway, Knopfler is still British, yay!

  • @chickengeorge69 Hmm. ok!

It's a little sad that you're up at this time. I do hope an immigrant hasn't stolen your job, but you may well be a student, im which case, you'll have nothing better to do than argue with people such as myself anyway.

I don't have to work myself, I'm loaded and I do this primarily out of boredom, that's my excuse.

Join the BNP, or at least take a peek at our website. New doors, fresh avenues will open up for you, it will be like a new lease on life for you.

  • @Maxshard I'm working as it happens. Obviously being loaded doesn't sound much fun if you're bored. Go round up some sheep or something ;)

  • @chickengeorge69 Yeah, what work do you do, I'm intrigued?

    Know what I do....nuthin'.

We do try picking up sheeple in the BNP, but, it's rather difficult as they generally tend to be brainwashed from ear to ear by the media.

Sheep are there to be fleeced and you are yet another little lamb being led for the slaughter by the state, by the sound of it.

  • @Maxshard I work in IT for large phone company. I have property abroad. I do ok thanks.

  • @chickengeorge69 Good for you, I've considered fleeing to South America if the country continues to be led down this genealogically suicidal path. I'd make sure your real estate investment is not within the boundaries of the EUSSR if you wish to retain your frreedom.

Visit our websire sometime, you may be surprised at the complete lack of racism in the articles and posts and the posters generally have a high standard of writing and thinking, as we are mostly middle class. All are welcome.

  • @theSicilianToe hes not scottish at ALL by blood, hungarian, and english blood actually, hes only scottish by BIRTH get your facts correct please.

  • @TheLovemusicguy OH MY GOD! HAVE A NICE DAY... It's a culture thing.

  • @TheLovemusicguy huh? Since the 60s/early 70s , what has England produced, other than Dire Straits? OK, and Radiohead...

  • @lonewolf1234512345 Well you weren't even born the early eighties, when there was a second invasion of the US and for that matter all over the world by British groups mostly inspired by David Bowie's new romantic image..

The Rolling Stones are still the biggest staduim rockers in the world..

Biggest rock bands ever, The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin and Queen. All British. The US miusic industry sucks and that's why we get nothing but rap, pap, and singers who can't write songs.

  • For god's sake the National is tuned to Open G with the capo on 3rd fret. how the hell can it be tuned to D just play along with him and you will find it is Open G. It is not bloody hard!

  • ok, i am now almost certain that youtube automatically dislikes every single video that gets uploaded, this is ridiculous!

  • omg! Romeo and Juliet is so f**king beautiful, got shivers all over my body when he played it :D

  • "I used to smell the catalogues!"

"Fender is one of the most beautiful words in the English language"

    This guy is brilliant.

  • I saw Mark in Eugene, Oregon last year. Phenomenal music performance! We waked out of the concert hall speechless, really. Thank you, Mark!

  • What tuning is the acoustic in?

  • @redstratocaster1942 Standard tuning.

  • legend

  • Can somebody plz tell me what Type of Guitar he is playing when he plays Baloney again?

  • heared hes a bit of a wanker after speaking to someone who knows him personally..

  • @SomeScouser Nobody is perfect, everyone's a wanker from time to time. unless this is all the time your talking about.

  • @IL0veMoz Lol. They say it takes a big one to see a small one. Usually when people are drunk they want to talk crap to the stars and get shunned. So always take it where it comes from. Maybe that Someone was actually The Wanker. Cheers guys.

  • @SomeScouser I love the guys music but I always thought he sounds like a bit of a wanker whenever hes interviewed although i guess he has a right to be really lol

  • @SomeScouser In what way is he a wanker? I'm very curious :P

  • @SomeScouser ah, so you met David then? ;-)

  • He has a very Radio 4 voice in this interview, but he is definitely the coolest guy on earth in my opinion.

  • baloney again is an awesome song. I recomend everybody to listen to that and read the lyrics.

  • guy shouting about MTV is actually Sting..

  • great. thanks for this one

  • Volume is too low to hear.

  • The Money for Nothing lyrics are really funny when you actually listen to the song and imagine the guy in the shop spouting off those classic lines about what he's watching on MTV.

You can hear Mark Knopfler laugh when he's saying the line about the Hawaiian noises and "banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee ... that ain't working!"

  • he has an amazing feeling.

  • His voice sounds an octave higher than it used to be. Am I hearing things?

  • What a legend.

  • 6.51 - GODLIKE

  • pretty sure it's in open D tuning

  • @wazzakel Open G Mate.

  • What an amazing interview! Mostly down to MK himself of course

  • mark is a legend. I wish I was a prodigy like him. just sitting at home and suddenly an explosion of songs that comes out of nowhere. I've never had that experience, but I keep trying. maybe someday.

  • i dont think anyone will ever play money for nothing quite the way he does, BRILLIANT!!!!

  • I love his smile. He's so charming :-)

  • funny how artist sound different from there singing voices

  • he is a folk guitarist with fuzz lol

  • The best.

  • truly brilliant artist.

  • @beelinegirl -agreed. truley amazing.

  • who doesnt want a gibson les paul and a fender stratocaster! i mean its the greatest you can find! and btw mark is king!

  • " Fender is the most beautfiul word of the english language"

nwaaa,,, So true and well said

  • THANK YOU Dogswede1!

  • fuckin a. romeo and juliet was from a dobro, not a nylon like i had thought all these years.

  • Great musician and a great man.

  • Thanks for posting this! I used to have it on VHS but it's long gone. Thank you for posting!

  • MK gives me hope when the world seems cold and cruel.

  • 8:44 put shivers down my spine, hes just so i dont know, like a good neighbour, older casual guy, and then, he just delivers that tune originaly as before 25 years, at the very moment, hes young again, fantasy begins.

  • when he plays, he stares... everything shuts down and the emotion and soul is the only thing playing,

  • 6:10 Knopfler acoustic SHRED FEST! :P

  • Musical genius

  • Really fantastic interview.

  • a great musician and a gentleman as well.

  • Love him!

  • Such a lovely, modest unassuming guy. A true original.

  • So I think I nail Romeo and Juliet... then along comes this video!

Ah well. Practice makes perfect. You're one of my heroes Mark ^_^

  • 6:44 Beutiful!

  • Wot a wanker.......not a musician, get real mate, You are the best!

  • his rythm playing on Baloney again is amazing...

  • So the big question really is. WHAT is a GOOD reason?

  • classy, classy guy. and very humble for a guitar god. :)

  • What is the song called he is playing at 6.45?

  • Romeo and Juliet

  • this is great but parky spolits it by humming along when he plays romeo and juliet. Its embarrasing he sounds like my grandad.

  • I've always found that bit rather comical!

  • pause at 42 sec

  • got chills when he started playing romeo & juliet!! amazing!!

  • @RoyRogers87

    Me too!

And then I was like: No! don't stop...! when he stopped ;)

  • You freakin' rule, Mark, you inspired me to start fingerstyle guitar :)

  • there isn't an italian translation ?

  • I hope to meet les paul he is still active at 94
