@0917gva I found the entire effect very touching - a father singing a bedtime story to his little girl, in a calypso style, with the video presentation worthy of Disney. You know my music taste, Gayle, this is packed full of all the things I like. And I'm usually only listening to the music here. This 'visual' presentation was a monster bonus for me, plus, i remember catching this show once back then (1985). It was all musical skits. For some reason, I can't say enuff about this one! chuck
I was telling my friend at work about this video today, pss! Came home & made it my newest featured video at 36,330 views. Thanks again for an astounding post - I just may have to go to Nesmith's website, videoranch, & buy the whole disc! chuck
@Wellch1:46 "We've got a million dollars worth of ethyl gas." Sounds like a lot of money, but probably way less than real rocket fuel costs! The imagination in creating this video is astounding. Maybe that's why this man won the first Music Video of the Year award in 1981 for Elephant Parts! chuck
@lennycohenfan Hopefully, Michael Nesmith will be remembered for having the imagination to create a video like this, this is quality worthy of Disney !!! And how cool to be able to netsurf & find this aired the summer of 1985, 8 Thursday night episodes in prime time! This is an amazing piece of music history, added to my 1985 playlist. My 700 playlists include every year since 1900 so you can hear the best, like this song, as if you've stepped back in time. chuck
"I once killed a man with a sponge! Ok, maybe it didn't kill him, but it hurt really bad." Please post that! As a matter of fact, post it all :) Thanks!
I love this video more then anything I've ever seen, ever. Tho its kinda creepy, just the part about the reservation to the moon. The girls age also seems to change.
Is this song the father of "Bikeride To The Moon" by The Dukes Of Stratosphear/XTC? Mike sure must have plenty of grand connections. Frank Zappa, Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip, Andy Partridge... what a guy. I wish he were my pal!
Wow... don't know who you were answering...but, wow... Perhaps he was just taking a little girl for a fabulous ride?? Truly, I don't think it was the LEAST bit sexual!! Geez!!!
wow! thats awesome of you! since spongebob, i've been telling my kids, "I vonce keelt a man, wiz a sponge", and they dont know what i'm talkin about. Thanks, pawnshop sign, that would be so cool of you....alo
I played the video for my son when he was little.

His solo stuff reminds me of the kind of tunes and videos Neil Innes (The Rutles, ect.) use to make.

This video is so cool. While dated, it captures a part of the essence of the competition we had with the USSR. The harmonies are wonderful!!!!!!!!
