How did you know how to do everything? How many times have you beat the game? How long did it take you the first time?

@wulfsburg65 This took about 80 hours of work to figure out. The first 30 were spent solving the game the first time through. I spent another 10 hours paring it down to the bare minimum actions required to trigger the ending. Another 30 hours were spent route planning, during which time I wrote utilities to scan the game files to show me where key items could be found (like glass swords). The final 10 were spent recording the first attempt. I never did a second :D

Exult has options somewhere to allow translations for the runic signs, which I found very useful. Having to translate signs was busy work, and wasn't fun at all.

Very creative game, I recommend visiting Britannia in U7 and visiting the nursery for 'armanents' when you play...

For those new the Ultima series, I recommend playing Ultima 4-7, as these were the highlights of Garriots' work. EA came in right in the middle of #7, and you can see the results in the rest of their productions...

Why not try learning the alphabet? A good way is to print out a copy of the map and translate all the names of locations. By the time your done, you should be able to read well enough in game. After playing for a half hour reading signs you'll be fully proficient and reading runic will be easy as reading the alphabet. Makes the games muuch more immersive, I find.

I'm glad you enjoy it, and I'm sure there others who like that. But I'd rather learn a foreign language that's used more widely than learn Runic, it isn't fun to learn it just to understand the signs. If the whole game was in Runic, imagine how many people would just ignore the writing.

@nohophil It only takes about 10 minutes to learn the runic characters well enough to understand the signs. It takes more like 10 years to learn a foreign language :/ They're not comparable.

Ultima 7 can be played through DOSBox or with Exult, the engine remake. Same thing for Ultima 8, and the engine remake is called Pentagram. Google is your friend.

Well you don't. Google for Exult. It's a new client compatible with modern OSes. It is not exactly the same as the original especially where combat is concerned, but it's still fun.

It is quite remarkable that the game is so non-linear that the player can finish the game without recruiting the Avatar's companions, stealing important items, and by using the magic carpet.
