The chest harness is NOT designed to be fall protection. It's primary job is to move the chest ascender up the rope when the caver stands up. Even if every single plastic buckle on the harness failed at the same time(unlikely), the caver would still be safe because of the seat harness. Other manufacturers have used plastic buckles on their chest harnesses for many years.
Plastic buckles on a climbing harness? I hope he's not climbing anything higher than Rush Limbaugh's IQ (in millimeters).
