lol my uncle has a U-boat model kit, but he didn't start it yet. If I could get it from him, I'd convert it to r/c. currently, I'm working on an r/c yamato, but a U-Boat would be really nice. do you use these in battles? I know some ppl make ships that fire bb's at each other, anyway, very nice models, must have taken a long time to build them!

Some do. It works great. The torpedo is just an air canister that propels itself when spring released from the Sub. I only have pictures. no video (too bad).

@billabongBUTTS RC Submarines kits are nothing but toys how come U don't use real torpedoes with plastic explosives. It takes ball to have a destroyer with real depth charges. Also how bout real cannon for battle ships, Christ this is boring and I am sure you have engineers and get the permits to make it real. Instead just a toy in a swimming pool or large pond. If U want real fun U need real action + not airsoft. Heck we use M-80's for Depth Charges + 38 special ammo for cannons.

There are several websites that sell kits, but a lot of people convert plastic models using scratch-built "guts".  I believe you can also buy the "guts" to convert plastic models, too. Google "RC submarine" and you'll find lots of information.

No idea how much. Most of those RC subs are home made. Sometime, on dude creates a mold to cast fiber glass and resin to build hull halves and sell/give a small batch. The electronics and gears are all home made too. Usually the diving bladder is the most complex system. Some use blood donor pouches.

All these model subs are wonderful pieces of engineering.

@callofdutyguy9 it depends. You can buy a desk model submarine with all of the RC components for $500+ (2500 on ebay for a gato class, ready to run sub) I know caswellplating has good stuff all bundles together for high prices (900 for one set of VIIC stuff) hoep this helps!
