  • What are the online streaming channels for this ? I have a ROKU XS Media player and want to know if it will play anywhere near like the ROKU XS and will it play the same channels as a ROKU XS and if not can you recommend something like this but also works like a ROKU XS ?

  • @NB5BHVL The O!Play Air's strength is in local storage (not streaming like Roku). What you like about the Roku does not apply to the Asus O!Play HDP-R3. I think you should consider a look at the Dlink Boxee Box which offers hundreds of streaming channels, and has great support for local storage playback too. It's not as 'easy' and 'simple' as a Roku, but it's my personal favorite.

  • @moophoto Ok Thank you, The reason I was asking this is because my ROKU went out ( won't connect to the net anymore ) so figured that I'd have an opportunity now to test out some new media gadgets, Oh and by the way I have one of the ASUS O-plays but not this one It's also why I was asking about this too The ASUS O-play I love using it and still use it daily And Thanks again for the advice and will check in to that one you mentioned

  • @NB5BHVL Great! Well you know the O-Plays pretty well. I like that they have an international streaming section which is rare, but I found a player called AsiaBox that has that &more (not in USA).

  • Is it have onboard memory?

  • @komiks17 Yes but not any that you can use or store media with. It's for its operating system, firmware and buffering.

  • So if i have external subtitles, will it play them without permanently burning them into video file?

  • You can expand your drives by adding the wd network drives to your system and just navigate to them through your menu. This avoids any probs with lack of hub support you may encounter.

  • nice review man...very detailed and helpfull thanks

  • Hey I just bought a new 3TB western digital Elements hardrive, and when I hook it up to my Asus Oplay it comes up with this message: " Device not supported" Does anyone know why this is and if this can be fixed. do you have to update my asus oplay. I bought this 1.5 years ago. Is it out of date or is western digital HD Drive not compatible?

  • @charronfamilyconnect Hey! thanks for checking out my review. 3 TB are not supported by a majority of devices (its too new and too much). As a general rule of thumb, it might not be until next year that most devices will support 3TB drives. Stick to 2 TB drives and under and you'll be fine. On my own personal computer, I've had to update firmware and device drivers to get my 3TB drive (motherboard 3 years old) to work - and even the motherboard manufacturer said it wasn't supported.

  • @moophoto Thanks for your reply. Could I download firmware for my Asus Oplay device to make it usable with the 3TB hard drive? Like is there a website for Asus where I can somehow update my ASUS Oplay HDP-R1 to be compatible with this harddrive at least in theory? If not do you think there will be a firmware update next year to support this. Thanks Again!!

  • I'm having problems putting my media files in order, wondering if u can help. Thanks

  • @zangelt What do you mean 'in order'. Most media players in this category aren't great at managing a massive media collection (unfortunately).

  • @moophoto when i watch the files on tv, most of them are not in order. For example, it'll have episode 1 then next will be episode 10 instead of 2 and on but i guess like how you say most players aren't great at managing a massive media. Well thank u for replying. I really appreciated.

  • @zangelt Ah. I'm afraid that you need to rename your files starting with numbers that take up 2 or 3 spaces. For instance what I would do is rename episode 3 as "003_show_name_here.avi". This way all your videos from that series will play in order. Or maybe "show_name_here_03x01" for the show, season 3, episode 1. I hope that makes sense. Try it out!

  • @moophoto i wil try that. Thank u

  • Nice review, guess I'll buy the HDP-R1 model. I was kind of hoping this one supports YouTube playback, that would be awesome.

  • Realy love your very in depth review!

    Good job.

  • Why you waste time telling specs in video? Videos are for watching. I'm here to watch it work. I want to see the GUI. I'm at 3:33 and dieing at you blah blah blah

  • @just4junkmail Thanks for the feedback. The specs change with each firmware update, and at the latest firmware it included a lot of new features. But yes this is basically an oratory of my experience with it.
