  • This is really impressive, well done, I'm sure it must have taken a while to make so cheers this was fun to see :)

  • @Samuel24842 Thank you. I had hoped to do a few more of these by now - but real life is getting in the way. Hopefully get around to it eventually. :-)

  • How about a Dalek in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World?

  • @MrMovieBrat Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definately check it out.

  • daleks to 3poc hi you will be exterminated

  • Sweet!

  • @Teletran35 Thanks :-)

  • Really cool, man!

  • @hugoleo777 Thanks Hugo and thanks for favoriting :-)

  • cool vid bro

  • @whatastorymark1 Cheers :-)

  • Ah mah gahd, that's awesome!!

  • @CLETUSinSPACE Thanks Cletus - glad you liked it.

  • Impressive... Most Impressive...:D

    Thats pretty neat, well done

  • @TimeLordParadox Thank you. I'm still waiting for either George Lucas or the BBC to contact me - but if they do, it'll probably not be to offer me a job, but rather their respective lawyers asking me to cease and desist ;-)

  • thats really nice, how did you remove the droid ? funny i was just making a dalek today in cinema 4d, i could see how you can put it in with syntheyes or something, but how did you remove the backgroud droid ? as a guess id say you copied and pasted some of the textures from the wall and added them frame by frame ?

dunno tho, i really like it, nice work

  • @paranorma1palace Thanks for the comment. To remove the droid I first grabbed a frame and painted out all the droids in photoshop. I then tracked this frame in After Effects to the background plate. Then just masked out the area in front of the droid I was removing. R2D2 and C3P0 were then rotoscoped back in.

  • @planetmirth2001

cool man, it looks really good, forgive me for asking one more question, but did you mask out r2 and then place the layer on top of your dalek ? frame by frame ? no wonder the clip is so short it must have taken a while :)

  • @paranorma1palace Yes, I had to create masks around both R2D2 and C3PO and then place them above the Dalek, who in turn was above my painted out background, which was above the normal plate. Masking out the droids frame by frame was a painful process - but I had to do it all again for my 2D to 3D conversion upload as the masks had to be much more precise. :-)

  • @planetmirth2001

it was worth the effort m8, id give u a job..if i wasnt wanting one myself :O)

shame i missed out on the dalek voice contest, i was just wandering round the kitchen perfecting it hehehe :)

  • @DoctorWhoGuy63 Thank you so much. That's very kind of you to say :-)

  • Wow! Your After Effects skills are great!

  • @3DVideos4U Thank you. This is the scene I hope to convert into a stereoscopic sequence in the near future :-)

  • very nice

  • @principealverto Thank you - I hope yo try converting this scene into a stereoscopic 3D version at the start of next year :-)

  • looks so very cool and is neat too.

  • @AlgisKemezys Thank you :-)

  • Nice "R2-Dalek" :3

  • @Spyguy79XD Thank you. I'm planning to have him make a cameo appearance in the actual animation - possibly even with extra bits from other popular robots - like Robbie The Robot's arms etc. :-)

  • Looks great, cheers! :D

  • @VanBullock Thank you. And very many thanks for subscribing and the invite - really appreciate it :-)

  • this is such a genious video!

    *****THUMBS UP!*****

have a great week my dear friend ☺

    ~Eleven

  • @SoaringEleven Thank you - hope you have a great week too.

  • I think you should do one from Matrix. Might be too hard but I'm sure you could pull it off. :)

  • @madminnycar Again another excellent suggestion - any particular scene you'd have in mind?

  • @planetmirth2001 hmm... i cant think of a definite one but maybe when, at the start, when he's in the office, trying to get away from the agents... or when neo first enters their loading software... or when he is fighting morfios (spelled correctly?). idk too many to choose from. maybe you could put one in Iron Man as well. the scene where he comes back from where they have the guns and pepper finds the robots repairing his suit.

  • @madminnycar Some great ideas there - thanks again.

  • @planetmirth2001

Good add on there. Though the R2 Dalek head at the beginning was neat....I think lowering it a bit, that bit under the blue band, would look a little more proportional. :)

  • @TheCastellan Cheers. I hope to revisit in the series itself - when one of the Daleks attempts to make a more PR friendly Dalek by incorporating design elements of "popular" robots/androids/droids etc. I certainly do as you suggested for the R2-D2 part - might also use the arms from Robbie the Robot or the Robot from Forbidden planet. Anyone else any suggestions for other part swaps?

  • @planetmirth2001

Maybe replace the 'skirt' of the Dalek with Captain Pike's chair as seen in the Menagerie Parts 1 & 2 from the original Star Trek?

  • @TheCastellan I like it :-)

  • What did you use for motion tracking? I love it!!

  • @ScottPadbury3D The droid removal was just done with the tracking within After Effects - the 3D tracking was PFTrack. PFHoe is a great cheap alternative.

  • This is the first time I saw this I have been out of the loop lately, great job man!!

  • @ScottPadbury3D Glad you liked it Scott :-)

  • could you do a dalek in

    the live action transformers movie

    the dark knight

    iron man

    avatar

    district 9

    terminator 2

PLEASE DO AT LEAST ONE OF THEM!!! THESE ARE MY FAVORUITE MOVIES

  • @lmckay023 A great selection to choose from - particularly liking the T2 idea. What about when the T-1000 is broken into silver bits, they reform into a Dalek?! That'd be a challenging shot. I'll definitely look into it.

  • @planetmirth2001

thats sounds awesome, i can picture it now!!

  • oooooo do a scene from stargate that would be awesome

  • @DoctorWho10thDoctor I already have a scene in mind for Stargate - watch this space ;-)

  • Wow that is some very nice work indeed. Maybe you could try your hand at adding them into Lord of the Rings (not sure how it would work but a joy to see it happen), or maybe Harry Potter? Dalek quidditch (or however it's spelt) team!

  • @Commandingtripod Thank you for your comments and the great ideas for other composites - I'll start watching my LOTR & Harry Potter disks as I work, to see if I can find and appropriate scene - perhaps Gandalf & Saruman's fight and/or one of Harry's wand duels could offer good opportunities for the exterminate effect - but I would like to see a scene with the NSD playing Quidditch! :-)

  • Mate, that is outstanding. I can see the sketch now and think it would work very well.

Maybe a 2001: A space odyssey appearance would be ok. The scene where Frank is jogging on the rotating wheel, he could be behind him, bumping into stuff.

  • @DalekBill Thanks Bill and another huge thank you for subscribing. Really like the 2001: A Space Odyssey idea.

I had intended littering the garage with iconic objects from all of my favourite films - and I was either going to use Frank's space helmet or a HAL interface to represent 2001. But doing it as a clip might be better, particularly as I probably don't have time to make models from ALL my favourite films. There possibly wouldn't be room in the garage anyway ;-)

  • wow !

  • @GmuesFilm Cheers - glad you liked it :-)

  • this is fxxing awesome. mustve been a helluva lot of work, ore are there particular programs to do the rotoscoping ? didnt you use after effects ?

looking forward to see the whole dalek thing, though i still dont get the gist behind it ^^

  • @GmuesFilm Thanks again. Yep, all the roto work was done just using After Effects masks. I traced the outline as best I could and added a slight feather to help hide the joins :-)

  • HAA!!! That is AWESOME! ^_^

  • @Contraltissimo Thank you. Perhaps I should do a Dalek vs Starship Troopers Warrior Bug comp next ;-)

  • @planetmirth2001 *lol* Wow, I honestly don't know which would win in that fight. XD XD

  • Great! Must have taken a hell lot of time to mask out the C3-PO robot! :D

  • @FrozenAirStudio Thanks. Ironically, out of almost all my uploads, this one took the least time to complete. Only a few days from idea to final render - but you're quite right, most of that time was masking out C3PO :-)

  • Nice work !

  • @jptthreedee Cheers :-)

  • Ha Ha...Pure Genius my friend!!

  • @Hanszuper Gald you enjoyed it :-)

  • Well done

  • @Halenow Thank you :-)

  • Awesome work D!

I knew I hooked up with the best when we started this RotD project. Now you can put Daleks anywhere lol. You should phase out Patrick Swayze and have him do the Ghost pottery scene, or Leonardio Dicaprio in the Titanic as the King of the World, Heck, even Roadhouse(exterminate?), Point Break, or make him dance with Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing lol. The possibilities now seem endless.

  • @ShogaNinja Thanks - some nice ideas there. I was going to ask if you can recall a classic Trek episode that showed Captain Kirk being blasted with some sort of ray - preferably a single shot that just showed him and the person/creature who did the firing. I'd like to try my hand at a Dalek style extermination effect and also do something Trek, so I was thinking of combining the two. Alternatively, I could just do a transporter effect comp. of a Dalek beaming down/up with the away team.

  • @planetmirth2001

There was an episode where a guy changed bodies with captain kirk that was pretty amusing. He stepped in this weird room and got the switcharoo.

  • @ShogaNinja Is that the "Turnabout Intruder" Series 3?

  • @planetmirth2001

You can watch the entire Original Series online now if you wanted to verify this on CBS. On further inspection I don't believe this is the episode because the one I am referring to Spock saved the Captain and shut off the machine before it was too late.

  • @ShogaNinja

I THINK so, but it's been a little while since I went thru the program. You could have Kirk step into the room and turn into a Dalek lol.

I THINK that the very first episode, the one with Christoper Pike as Captain (the original pilot) has some scenes where Spock takes some shots but generally speaking when you get shot in Star Trek you either die instantly (usually while wearing a red shirt) or you take a flesh wound. Kirk, Spock, and Bones generally avoided this fate. :)

  • @ShogaNinja Thanks - I'll see if I can find time to re-watch "The Enemy Within" - with two Kirks there's a good chance that one of them gets stunned/shot :-)

  • @planetmirth2001

On a separate note, The newest series, Star Trek Enterprise featured MANY of its cast getting shot all the time :)

You could always pull out a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica and put in a Dalek too. There is an episode where they land on a planet (I think it's called New Caprica) that would be a good spot to do something like that. In the particular episode I am talking about dozens of humans are shot and killed by Cylons.

  • @ShogaNinja Cool. For the Star Trek one, I'm really looking for one of the leads from the Classic Trek, but the Cylon is a good option for another one.

  • @planetmirth2001

Try the very first unaired pilot episode with Christopher Pike. It might be your best shot. What you are asking me about though is very obscure and hard to pinpoint with memory alone. I wish I could be more helpful.

  • @ShogaNinja Thanks for giving it some thought. I have the pilot episode on DVD so I'll have another look at it - though as it'll be only on screen for a few seconds I'm really wanting it to be an iconic moment featuring one of the main characters that even non-Trekkers would recognse. There's no rush on it, so I'll keep an eye out for something appropriate.

  • @planetmirth2001

Kirk gets shot and killed in Generations the movie. Dunno if that helps :)

  • @ShogaNinja Cool - I'll check it out. :-)

  • sweet :)

  • @dalek014 Thanks :-)

  • That's really amazing work.

Wish it went on for a second or two longer to see the Dalek collide with a wall! (And then George Lucas can shout cut!)

  • @tangerinealarm Nice idea :-)

  • Awe man Love it. Please post a tut!!. I read the info but would love to see how you did it.. 5* as always! How do i rate though!!

  • @antobrez Cheers. Time's a bit in short supply at the moment, but I'll try to supply some more detailed info later if I free up.

Regarding the rating, Youtube have changed the star rating to a thumbs up or thumbs down system, so if you like, just click the thumbs up icon below the vid. Thanks again for your support. :-)

  • @planetmirth2001 Cool Thanks!

  • When are you going to release the episode it's self?

  • @LordRammasus Unfortunately it's likely to be a LONG time. In the meantime it might be best to look at my channel as a random collection of visual effects, that all just happen to have a Dalek theme :-)

  • Awesome Job!

  • @Tcdirtman3 Cheers :-)

  • brilliant work mate!!!!

  • @daliman11 Thank you :-)

  • Heh Heh. Nice work! Just noticed a nice new Youtube Layout too. Im putting this on my Dalek Group.

  • @OwenDWF Thanks Owen that would be good of you. :-)

  • No probs. Your works great!!!!

I know The Mind Robber has done one, but i bet you would do a really good job of making the Dalek Army in Day of the Daleks much much bigger. Youd make it look very professional, im sure.

  • stunning piece of work mate, youve really done well here and its very inspiring to see the dalek not killing but trying to escape as well as on guard! gives me so many ideas, take care mate

  • @dalekidea Thank you. I'm looking forward to working with you on this - if I ever get time to progress it :-)

  • @planetmirth2001 hi mate i look forward to be helping you too mate im sure it will be a highlight of the year, so is there a small chance it may not happen when you say if i ever get time

  • @dalekidea I'm keen to see it happen no matter how long it takes, but it'll depend whether or not the Youtube community stay interested. If the number of views and subscribers keep significantly increasing with each upload, then I'll keep going until it's finished. If people lose interest and I only get a handful of subscribers/views each month, I may have to reassess. At the moment however, it's looking quite positive - I just may have to take a month off to try and earn some money ;-)

  • @planetmirth2001 ah right im sure that you will get the popularity you deserve as all your work is master full and stunning, if it doesnt take too long in the future when i do a fan film would you possibly be able to help with adding some daleks to some shots ?

  • @dalekidea Thanks :-) If I get the time I'd love to help out. Is it a live action or figure piece?

  • Awesum :)

  • @DoctorWho10000 Cheers :-)

  • Wow, what programm do you use to remove people from the movie?

  • @YogSothothOfGuitars Thanks. I used After Affects - I'll post a rough outline of the technique in the more info section. It took about 3 days (not including the Dalek modeling which took a couple of weeks) from having the idea to viewing the final result.

  • Q: How can you remove the robot behind C3PO?

btw, very nice done, love it.

  • @nipanstudio The first stage is to take a still from about half way in. Bring this still into Photoshop and painstakingly paint out all the droids until you're left with an empty corridor. Then track the still to the background plate. I used After Effects. The effect will break down at the edges, so make an irregular mask and feather it - I hid one seam behind C3PO. Then just roto out the characters you want to keep - simple ;-)

  • Beautiful composition sir. The R2D2 Dalek at the start is an inspired touch too =p

  • @richsc21 Thank you - I'm hoping to have something similar in one of the episodes - a sort of attempt by the Daleks to improve their PR, by drawing on the design of well loved icons :-)

  • That is quite amazing!...you should be filthy rich...if you're not already!...lol

  • @maadmaestro That's very nice of you to say, but unfortunately I'm still very poor - perhaps because I spend all my time on free Youtube content - I really should get a proper job ;-)

  • It took me a second to figure out how to comment! Nice work!

  • @dasiavou Thank you. Yes Youtube must have had a similar agreement as cinderella as at midnight GMT every changed ;-)

  • superb mate, absolutely brilliant

  • @tardiselliot Glad you liked it :-)

  • cool!!! wait a minute!! youtube looks different! hehe nice vid!

  • @Rulitop Thanks for the comment. Not sure what's just happened to the Youtube pages - I think I preferred the way it was about 5 minutes ago :-)

  • ha ha i love it! lol

  • @dwho1994 Wow - that was fast. Thanks for commenting and rating :-)
