This guy's rhythms aren't bad, but I can't tell what background he comes from-set drumming? In any case, his untuned drum and horrible ringing that muffles thesounds of the individual beats actually hurts my ears. There are some really good excerpts of excellent authentic djembe drumming on Utube. This is not among them.

Man, the unbelievable arrogance... How can anyone this inept set themselves up as a "teacher"? Don't watch this garbage. Do yourself a favor and buy a decent teaching DVD. Michael Taylor's "Remembering How To Drum" is good for beginners. If you are a bit more advanced, look for Mamady Keita's and Mohamed Bangoura's teaching DVDs. And for more advanced players, "Akaran Iko Iko" is very good. All these teach you how to play properly, with proper technique, and with respect for the tradition.

Awful use of musical language and concepts. People who don't know about musical theory and see this video should end up more confused. It's better not to use such technical language to teach if you don't even know what it means...polyrythms are a completely different thing...that's a straigth ahead type of thing.

Very terrible technique, terrible drums. Try Mamady Keitas dvd's, learn technique, THEN improvise or make your own grooves, or sound like an idiot with no clue, your choice.

it's not a bad little novice groove for two people, and maybe some newbs will get some ideas from it. but this guy scott is so much about playing every sixteenth note, and that's what people who watch this will see and take to their local jam in the park, where there's way too much of that already. dude, you're not playing a drum set with all the perc space to yourself, you gotta leave room the other drummers. and as has been said, this is not polyrhythm, it's not even swing, it's straight 4.

Well it would be better if they had authentic African drums. They are playing with synthetic heads not animal hide like deer or goat. Thats why it sucks there is too much of a pick and its drowning out the second drum.
