In New York City, a place where Dickey Betts had had many great achievements, he played what will possibly become his last touring date on December 12, his 66th birthday.
"Im not retiring from playing. Im sure there will be some great special events that Ill be at in the future. But for now, I look forward to waking up tomorrow with nothing on my schedule."
After more than 40 years of constant touring its time for a well deserved break.
Who is the bass player? He is up there with Woody & Oakley.Saw them Wed. he stole the show . Hes not one of these guys on bass, he PLAYS BASS . Know what I mean?
Dickey playing well and seems to be having fun. These guys sounded great on their tour in 2009! .......the man is one of a kind, was fun to hear him trading licks with his son.
I feel privileged every time I hear Dickey play live. I know that "every time" I am witnessing a living legend and RnR history being created on the spot. Looking forward to the 2009 season and hoping he makes it to Carolina at least once this year. I hope the lineup remains the same for as long as possible because they are all on their "A" games. What a wonderful addition was Andy Aledort?! Come on to Carolina DB&GS.
If you catch Dickey on a night when he is on fire you are in for a treat..This man is a legend..Just look at the songs he has written..Plus he has some of the sweetest sounding guitar tone ever played... The guy on keyboards is Mike Kach..He sings some of the bands songs an plays a mean keyboard..Check out the bass player Pedro he is killer on bass
Check out the vids of Dickey Betts & Great Southern from this summer, 2008. He is playing better than in many years, and so is his band. Search for "dickey betts 2008", and you'll end up in Southern Rock Heaven:-)
I'm serious! Something has happend lately. Mr. Betts is playing better than in a long time, he is looking a lot healthier and is firing on all six at the moment!
Dickey has moved on and is much, much better off without Gregg and his unending journey of mental instability. If you want to hear Allman Brothers music played the way it should be, Go see Dickey Betts & Great Southern. Those other guys with Greg are on the same head trip and keep bumping into each others egos. Fortunately, Dickey is all about the music and as his slogan says, "Genuine Since 69". If Duane were alive, he and Dickey would still be playing together & Greg would be solo.
Dickey Betts & Great Southern Hero thay r the best band to this day. buy this dvd Dickey Betts & Great Southern Back - Where It All Begins - Live At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Museum. it best dvd iv got

Honestly I am glad he is not playing with Warren Haynes because I cannot stand that guy's sound. He ruins the Allman Bros.
