  • Great video thanks, but maybe edit out the ending where you take the trout home? We're so lucky to have such an amazing trophy trout fishery as Lake O, and with the brown trout fishery in Lake Taupo developing so well it would be great to preserve it and manage it well for the longterm. We're the envy of many Americans and Europeans, but don't we need to practise some conservation? If you want a feed, try lake Taupo, if you want some flyfishing sport try Ota and then release them for others?

  • @OnlineAdvantageNZ

Thanks for the feedback re taking the fish home, but our data shows there is ample fish in Lake O to support a significant harvest of fish, and it is the belief of our technical staff that a higher harvest of fish from Lake O is in fact a key to returning the lake to its previous standing as a true trophy fishery. As such we deliberately included the clip of me taking a fish home as a way of suggesting to people that the lake can support a harvest of fish. Thanks again, Dave

  • hi dave , are the damsels around all season? cheers , and thanks for the video , very helpfull

  • @MRSIKA500

The damsels are present as nymphs throughout the year, and so a damsel nymph is a good fly to use as a starting point throughout the open season on the lake. They are most active during the warmer months December-March when they hatch as adults.

  • @DeptOfConservation thanks mate ,im quite new to fly fishing and any help i can get i take , thanks again!
