That "touch" system that Van Halen uses..lol. Well, don't think I can ever get my hands on one of these bad boys, unless I sell the house. So until then, gotta stick with my lowly ES-135 with soapbars.
well bush may look similar to Chet , but Chet actually had an IQ and innate talent as well as the ability to bring joy to this planet of killers. Poor bush couldn't break 100 on his very best day. Think about how many people around the world died because Preston bushs' progeny lived.......... Like the poster of this vid said " This man was a true country gentleman"
The old-fashioned "great Gretsch sound" can be had by getting a hold of some old DeArmond pickups, or some old fashioned Gretsch "Filter-Tron" or "Hi-Lo-Tron", which may be available again since Gretsch is now distributed by Fender.
T V Jones also makes pickups for some of the newer Gretsch models.
Then put your p/u switch in the middle, put the amp on full treble, and overdrive just a little...
I have a Roundup with western motif.I like the Gibson Chet atkins better than the Gretsches.Gretsch's would be better if they'd put some real frets in 'em and a solid center block like the Gibson CG and Tennessean. The new Paul Yandell designed Gretsch is supposed to be a winner though.
@Salguine I agree but it does prove that the "tapping" evh allows everyone to think he invented was being done in the late 50's and early 60's. Now Eddie doesnt say he invented tapping. But, he knows theres the perception that he did, and he doesnt do anything to alter that perception. Eddie is a very smart business man.
I always liked the original Gretsch Chet Atkins model. like Chet is holding here. There is a clip of him playing Mr Sandman with this model, but most of the clips he''s playing a Country Gentleman.
Seems reason enough to me. It wasn't specifically to 'argue' with someone with poor communication skills. Trash mouth impresses no one except the speaker but, again, I just wanted certain things to get said in the space alloted.
nacho, namecalling and foulmouth doesn't make your point. All musical genres change because of the fans, the ones who spend the money. The advent of rock and roll, Elvis and the Beatles had many country stations switching to rock. Hillbilly was out. Country needed to change to survive. The Bakersfield guys were good at what they did. Chet and Owen Bradley were good at what they did. It's always about money. And it cannot be denied that Chet was a singulalrly innovative guitarist...
Yep...There's always somebody better. Chet was great no doubt..during his time coming up there wasn't a lot of that "picking" going on..he mastered it before anyone else and was considered the "greatest" He always said jerry reed was the best and was better than him. Todays genre...people like ricky scaggs' guitar player will walk circles around chet atkins and jerry reed put together. Course Ricky scaggs could too.
Your an idiot and you know nothing about what happened during that time period. Maybe you are were not around in 1964 when the Beatles came out and nobody bought any country music and radio stations would not play it. Atkins and Owen Bradley just made it more listenable and saved country.
You're an imbecile who doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" and it sounds like you got what you think you know out of a book, lol. You patheitic 20 year old jerk.

An idiot is what your remarks sound like. Is that better? You have nothing but a butt level retort to my grammar and nothing to defend the remark you made.
Any time you want to match musical wits, bring it on. I have played with the best of all of them. How about you?
Your comment about "saving" country music during the Beatles era is asinine, fuckwipe. Good question, Evelau! Setzer was greatly influenced by Chet. He had no reason to be jealous of anybody in the world. Those who didn't grow up on Chet's music have no idea what they missed. He influenced most guitarists, no matter what genre of music they play.
Thomaswni: So what? Obvioiusly, Setzer didn't impress Chet enough for Chet to remember his name.
Y'all think he looks like Bush here? See "Stars & Stripes Forever" from Soundstage (on "Rare Performances 1976-1995")!

Just saw on antiques roadshow today a 59 strat w amp apraise for inexcess of 15K. George Harrison`s Penguin went for on auction for, I think 1/2 mill. The Billy Zoom tribute silver jet starts @ 10K new! I toyed with it at the shop and felt it was worth the asking price in a different economy. Not today. If I had to give that guitar a name, I would have to call it Angelina. So hot! I don`t like the 6120`s much for my use.
Hey man, I love Van Halen, Santana, Les Paul, Django, Joe Pass, Geo. Benson, Kirk Hammet, Gary Hoey, Eric Johnson, CHEYT ATKINS!!! Ok, I love great guitar!
man, chet atkins is awesome. i was surprised he knew who van halen was, though. i love eddie van halen, too. im one of the only people who likes old and new country, classic rock, and modern heavy metal. chet atkins is awesome though.
you're not alone dude i love Metallica and Chet too. But i think that when i'll be more aged i'll still love Chet and i'll owne just one guitare and it will be a Gretsch many chance.
I actually met Chet in 1977 while doing a tribute to Elvis in Memphis. I was lead guitar for Ronnie McDowell and he and I sat on the couch in the dressing room and "jammed". There is a picture I took of him that night on one of my songs at my site but I can't remember which song it is.
its a secret he liked hendrix from those that knew him like paul yandell and jerry reed. this myth came up one chets site on the chet board and like paul said "jimi who"?
he is napping for eternity. The thing about Chet that was so cool is, he explored so many other guitar styles. Back then a country picker wouldn't admit to listening to, much less actually liking a rock guitarist. Not Chet. It's no secret he liked Hendrix, Clapton, Setzer among others, and his friendship with Mark Knopfler is well known. He could make one guitar sound like 2 or 3 WITHOUT any effects. He was/is a 6-string master.
funny, everyone says Seltzer...There is no "L" in the name. Chet Atkins is great!! So is Setzer... I should have bought some 6120's back when they were only 1k. I do have a 59 6120 though.!!
Some advice to a fool: Get smart before you open your mouth. Apparently you have never seen Chet. He was that laid back. The world's best ever guitar picker and the kindest gentleman and RCA Victor's most prolific producer/A&R man/and Vice-President. He produced, performed on, or arranged more hits in the 1960's than any other record producer in history. And did I say the worlds best guitarist?

Isn't that model he's holding nearly exact to the Reverend Horton Heat Signature model? The brand, the inlays...all of it.

I love Chet. He reminds me of my uncle with all his stories. I would've liked to have met Chet.

I actually met Chet in 1977 while doing a tribute to Elvis in Memphis. I was lead guitar for Ronnie McDowell and he and I sat on the couch in the dressing room and "jammed". There is a picture I took of him that night on one of my songs at my site but I can't remember which song it is.

didnt homer simpson say that in the episode with rock n roll band camp? "Mr. Seltzer..." - "it's setzer" - "No, i think it's seltzer."

He should take a nap, he is very tired! :D
laku78 4 years ago
he is napping for eternity.

Thats why they called him Mr. Guitar

Det blir ikke så mye bedre enn dette. Synd ikke Chet fikk noen år til. Et flott menneske og en musikals inovatør.

funny, everyone says Seltzer...There is no "L" in the name. Chet Atkins is great!! So is Setzer... I should have bought some 6120's back when they were only 1k. I do have a 59 6120 though.!!
gretsch58 4 years ago

Some advice to a fool: Get smart before you open your mouth. Apparently you have never seen Chet. He was that laid back. The world's best ever guitar picker and the kindest gentleman and RCA Victor's most prolific producer/A&R man/and Vice-President. He produced, performed on, or arranged more hits in the 1960's than any other record producer in history. And did I say the worlds best guitarist?
