  • 1:13,major lead failure!Got to love the heaviness of of it all though.Marriott was cool.

  • That guitar Marriot's playing weighs more than he does.

  • Aint nothing better than a Gibson Les Paul in A in 1974.

  • Melhor vocal de rock and roll!!!!!!!

  • Is that the late, great Tommy Vance (sporting a quality moustache) introducing the band?

  • steve was waaaaay better with the small faces.

  • first number ..........the audience 's already on FFffFiiirReee woooww

  • humble pie is a great band. steve marriot sings his ass off.

wish he and all could play again.

  • @TheRDKIDZ He'dead and so is the bassist. Not gonna happen.

  • Flubs on a few lead licks but still very entertaining. RIP Steve Marriot. Saw them live at Kiel Annex in St. Louis, MO around this time. No seating, just a concrete floor. BEST concert I ever saw!

  • Damnnnnnn....rockin'!!!!

  • Nunca vi tanta visceralidade. O cara canta com as tripas.

  • @europis888 Excellent comment : )

  • 70s rock was great,...missed notes and all. it was the soul and emotion of the era.

  • Nobody had pipes like Stevie!

  • I saw this tour also, and like the previous comment, it was loud, and that was the way we liked it! I saw these guys too many times to count and they always got the crowds up on their feet and rocking like crazy! Those were certainly the days....and concerts were like 5 bucks! Ah yes.......the good old days of real hard rock and roll with feeling & style!

  • HP was one of the greatest bands in 70s... Raw power and kick-ass energy

  • I grew w/ Humble Pie back at this time; younger bands need to view this and take notes; this is how its done ! It still sounds relevant today, solid musicians, great tone, and the best rock voice; its the whole package !

  • You don't find many tenor voices lasting very long. Cigs, dope and some reasoning to be loud has to take a toll. Steve never looked forward much, physically

  • This voice!

    Unmistakably Steve Marriott!!

  • Now that's rock , The real way to do it !

  • this is how it is done

  • THIS IS IT. Pure kickassin muthafuckin bombin stompin brainexploding rockn and roll. How did I miss them then. OK I was only 12 but already into Zep Heep Purple and the young outfits like Slade and Quo.

  • I agree with the comments about Jerry Shirley. The guy was solid as a rock.

  • Wow! Pure bluesy rock passion. As if Marriott's amazing vocals weren't enough, the guitar tone is incredible. Man, I miss '70s Les Paul through a Marshall rock like this.

  • Rock went from total jams like this to limp-wristed indie rock. What the hell happened, man, seriously...

  • @holyrebels , I'll tell you what happened- rock got pussified- WOMEN KILLED ROCK N' ROLL! Back in the day you'd never see women in the audience wave their hand over their head back & forth in unison when a band did a slower number-----what kind of bullshit crap is that??? when did that shit start? 15 years ago?? Now when I see that shit I want to puke, to me that says "Hey look at me, not the band, I'm more important, I'm SO sensitive, so keep looking at me, I'm worthless, but keep looking"

  • @paulpanton You have a point to an extent. As I've always said that if a band's fan base is mostly women, then they're a shit band more obsessed with looks.

  • What a soul singer. A monumental loss to the music world.

  • No stage monitors, no auto-tune, no cookie monster "vocals"..... REAL rock..... listen up young pups

  • By the way folks, I forgot to mention it in my last post. Greg Ridley KICKED ASS! You can't get a more powerful engine room than Greg and Jerry driving your music. Todays bands should take note and see how it should be done. Todays fans don't have any idea what they missed. RIP Greg and Steve and thanks.

  • now i know where AC/DC got their blueprint

  • de belgique!!! je pense exactement la meme chose!!

  • lol dirty

  • I had a Ford van in the late 70's and even though it was an old tape I listened to this constantly. Laying back with my girlfriend after a session and smoking a fat one is possibly one of the best memories of my life. Man do I miss that. It sucks being over 50. Thanks Steve for a big part of the soundtrack of the best years of my life. I'm always young when I listen to the Pie (with Peter or Clem). I saw the last tour at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Pavillion. Bittersweet - awesome but the end was near

  • So this is what they mean by British blues

  • Fecking amazing,what a talent,RIP Steve

  • suedehead

  • supreme! Steve,Greg,Peter and Clem long live your efforts, such a great band rock and funkadelic big music!!!

  • Killer song!

  • I wish some video of Rockin the Fillmore would turn up.

  • RIP Steve Marriott.

    LEGEND.

  • Notice Stevie went from Donny Osmond to Tom Petty for lead guitars - lol.

(Osmond - Frampton) (Petty - Clem)

  • Humble Pie is miss ya.

Someone please tell me New Found Glory is better than this!

  • @deepwell07

    yer daddy is dead?

  • pointy head your daddy didnt kill you?

  • @deepwell07 /watch?v=J8SbKAC_6AY

  • I wish there was more of this kind of stuff available on DVD for release. Thanks for posting this friend! Happy belated birthday to Steve Marriott Jan 30th! Rock on soul man! Yeaaah! Kerrrang!

  • SmaLL & Thunder!ng

  • so the lead guitar player is some guy named Clem? what year did Frampton depart?

  • Comment removed

  • Pete "Clem" Clemson to be exact. Not as good as Frampton but did a good job never-the-less. Great band either way.

  • @klummp 1971

  • The "Pie"... ah yes.

  • Thanks for posting! I was 13 when I seen this on tv, I recorded it on my toy tape recorder, and could see the performance in my head every time I played it. This is just the way I rembered it. As good as it gets!

  • this is going straight on my favs. i saw humble pie quite a few times back then. both with frampton and clem. always great. why hasnt someone made a diffinitive documentry or something about steve..the best singer ever to be born in england. god bless.

  • Absolutely SHRED-A-LICIOUS!

  • That's what I'm Talkin about!!!!

  • sometimes I need a fix (musical) and the Pie never disapoint ,cheers.

  • greatest intro ever

  • Don't know if Sreve would tell a woman she's a Thunderbox. Seems like he amped up since the Rolling Stone song was a hit. Simply a macho song to me

  • A suede head is a very smart Skinhead there grow their hair just like Steve.Check out Paul Weller/Style Council on Solid bond in your heart.Suede heads are like a missing link between Mods and Skins

  • stevies hair is top "suede head"

  • what's a suede head? lmao

  • Steve looked the bee's knees with that proto-punk do. Bowie must have been in awe.

  • OMG i love Pie. I can remember listening to it and being high and getting laid in the back of the Ford Econoline van. It was a great time to live!!

  • hey pinky...how you doin?....sold that van in '78!!...heh...just kidding...great post!!...It was a great time to live!...was in a band then...(couldn't sing like Stevie...but we rocked)

  • And Jeff Beck would make Zak give up playing guitar...This is rock and roll...not a finger exercise.....Tasty licks and fat chords

  • i was 10 yrs old once too . give it time .

  • I'm hearing this for the first time. In-fucking-credible!

  • i was at this gig. i remember it being LOUD. but then again, all gigs were loud back then. waste of time now. the pussies and nannies of 'health and safety' have seen to that. fuck those cunts. these WERE the days people

  • Ha! I'm half deaf because of it. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. Totally worth it...

  • @jjwesley2525 Steve was the best. Killer video

  • @jjwesley2525 completely agree with you - well said.

  • @jjwesley2525 sucks getting old huh man? getting bitter and ignorant and living in the past b/c the world has passed you by...sad sad thing

  • @jjwesley2525 Eh? Come again?

  • @jjwesley2525 Good stuff. Can't imagine much ROCKING goes on in the old place these days (it's now used as a church). Having said that it has had a swanky makeover in recent times and, unlike the legendary Glasgow Apollo, is still standing!

  • All hail the mighty "Pie" and "Marriot!"

  • Jerry Shirley - earliest recorded case of man wearing shell suit.

  • Jerry coulda been in a gieco commercial with that suit and beard. Maybe he was workin as extra on of the planet of the apes movies?

  • It's heavy stuff this; right up there with Zep and Purple.

But they weren't so huge, were they?

And why not? Falling too much between hard rock and soul and fitting in neither??

    Still, great great music.

  • No, they never sold hundreds of millions of records like Zep and Deep Purple, but they had a pretty loyal following and still do. I think people are beginning to realize just how great this band was. If you saw "Almost Famous," you might remember they were mentioned a couple of times in the movie—which, I believe, is tribute to them, ever be it so small. Yeah, they were a great band.

  • hehe, Frampton played Humble Pie's roadie :) in "Almost Famous".

  • Man, I didn't know that, and I've seen it 10 times. Anyway, thanks for that cool piece of info. My favorite scene in the movie is when Russell gets back on the bus after partying all night, and everybody starts singing "Tiny Dancer." Gives me chills every time.

  • lol, next time read the final credits ;)

He was Reg who played cards very well hehe. Peter was also a music consultant for the film.

    on imdb site it's written:

    * Frampton taught Billy Crudup how to play the guitar in preparation for the concert scenes

*Stillwater's songs were written by Frampton , Cameron Crowe and Nancy Wilson. "Fever Dog" was written by Frampton. - the beginning sounds similar to I'm Ready from Rockin' the Fillmore (or maybe I'm deaf?)

yeah that scene in the bus is great :)

  • That's right. I remember all that now. But, I sure didn't know that Peter Frampton made a cameo. I'll have to watch it again and take a closer look. Thanks man. Later.

  • i could watch this guy forever he is the man.

  • where's Frampton ?

  • Left the band three years earlier...

  • This was after Frampton's time.

  • xJayWalkerx,

    I think you are right.

    We just love Percy, but

he certainly listened to Steve very carefully and fondly.

Plant went to to a different place after but began just where Marriot was.

It´s akin to the relationship between James Brown and Jacko´s stage dancing.

    One couldn´t exist withou another.

Although both were sonsof the British Blues boom, Steve had a firm foot o n soul, and Plant one in folk.

Also,Steve had stronger vocal chords than Robert, isn´t it?

  • People, here we got one of the best rock 'n' roll frotman of all times!!! A powerful voice and an inspirated musician, the great Steve Marriott!!! Chris Robinson learn very good his lessons, I sure that and I love him for them!!! Marriott for ever!!!

  • Awesome

  • See where Planty got inspired from!

  • Or Mariott got inspired from Planty...

  • nah qkpi It's Plant from Marriott Check Small Faces out -Steve's previous band check especially: You Need Loving (from 1966) Wath'cha Gonna Do About It - German TV show (1966) Tin Soldier (1967) Talk To You (1967) Rollin' Over (1968) I could go on and on... They were BIG in UK and Plant was a HUGE fan. come back here to talk what have you found out ;)
  • James Brown wished he had as much soul and energy as Marriott

  • Yes it is true Marriot did audition for the stones in the 70's

Richards and Marriot were old cociane buddies.

Ron wood was the best choice for the stones. HE had the better guitar chops and can do more. HIs stage presence is awesome. But his can not sing like Marriot. Jagger does not liked to be upstaged.

  • these guys are awesome

  • steve marriot kicks fuckin ass

  • does the whole of this concert exist love to own a copy. brilliant post mate spot on!

  • Everytime I watch a video of Humble Pie in concert, I'm just in awe of Jerry Shirley's drumming. He's very consistent and relaxed with his time, feel, and technique no matter the extreme volume levels he has to play at. He has everything I want to be as a Rock drummer.

  • great comment Dog....can't lose with Jerry...may I be so bold as to give a listen to Chad Gracey from LiVe on my site?....there are so many great drummers but if you want to do the straight....R&R drumming...you might want to check him out...

  • Almost 40yrs later the PIE is still one of my favorites.

    Rockon

  • me too jf....c'mon everybody...

  • Jonas Brothers? Are you fuckin kidding me. This is Rock n Roll.

  • Why does everyone go on about the fuckin jonas bros...just shuddup about them and enjoy a great rock band.

  • why unreal? he is and he stays forever tthe greatest!!!

  • unreal to see hem back, he's the greateat!!

  • Geez !!!!!I was born too late, most of the good ones are gone, now I'm in twinkie land with robot like bands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • steve marriott was i think a better vocalist than the big boys of rock like plant, daltrey, mercury, because he had more SOUL than the three of them put together, what a fecking brilliant singer/guitarist/songwriter... so underated

  • TRUE CLASSIC ROCK

  • 2:26..........awesome

  • Great song! and to think most people banging away in the audience are grandparents now!

  • What a fucking voice!!!! I still love this guy all these years later...

  • The best, who else could do it like this guy.

  • MARRIOTT IS A REAL GOD AND GOOD

  • MARRIOTT IS A REAL GOD AND GOOD

  • goddamn marriotts voice is fucking magic.

    Thunderbox!

  • I still can't believe how He died, burning to death in a fire. Shit..

  • fucking good

  • énormissime!

  • Unfucking believable. This guy is still my hero.

  • Another awesome vid of a vastly underrated rock 'n' roll band. Steve Marriott influenced so many, from Kevin DuBrow as a singer (although vastly less talented than Steve) to the big fat chordy guitar sounds of AC/DC and Smithereens, just to name a couple. Come to think of it, the main riff in this song sounds a bit like the Smithereens' "A Girl Like You." :)

  • Good call girl like you

  • Thanks :)

  • Marriott was the killer. Figures it took two legends to replace him in the (Small) faces. Humble Pie were tighter than two coats of paint.

    God bless him.

  • you can easily understand why mister jagger doesn't want STEVE playing in his band !!!!!! lol STEVE is still the best rock frontman ever......................STEVE R.I.P

  • If Steve is a frontman..and he is..why the would jagger even have considered having him in his band?...cock of a comment.

  • ??? Did you notice that STEVE played guitar too ????? This could help to replace ...Mick Taylor ??????? Were you even born in those days lol ?????

  • Look you twat..Steve was a frontman....guitar and vocals..so no way would he have joined the stones to replace taylor.

As i said, he wouldn't even have been considered for the stones..nor would he himself have considered it..never mind when i was born..stop trying to be a smartass..you don't have the brain power for it.

  • theyorkshirewhites

I've read some articles and a book 'Gallagher, Marriott, Derringer, Trower: Their Lives and Music' and it is well documented that Steve was auditioned for the Stones. Keith wanted him in a band but unfortunately Steve upstaged Jagger on stage, he was too good and Jagger didn't agree to have him in a band. This is a true story with an eye witness (I think it was a stage engineer of The Who, who told the story) and also Ronnie Wood in his book also confirm that .

  • Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....

  • I think it's fair enough that Jagger didn't let Marriott in the band. Jagger is a great singer and arguably the greatest frontman, having another great singer would have been pointless.

  • Bottump

The greatest frontman? It all comes to everyone's taste really.I prefer Marriott, he was a dynamite from the beginning, watch 'Whatcha Gonna Do About It' videotape in 66, watch Tin Soldier, I Can't Make It,Song of a Baker or Rollin' Over and then watch I don't Need No Doctor and I Walk On Gilded Splinters, shame we don't have more videos from HP's gigs (not TV performances) to see a brilliance of this guy, esp. when he was in a top form. We have lots of Jagger's videos but not Marriott's

  • I fully agree. Marriott would have trounced Jagger 100 times over.

  • Bottump

moreover I don't think this video does him a justice. In 74 Steve was in a bad shape, his personal live was a big mess and his drugs and booze addiction increased very much. You can also see he was very tired from massive touring but still managed to give a good performance.

  • JayWalker,

Don't get me wrong I love Steve Marriott! I just think that it was a good thing Jagger didn't let him join The Stones. Marriott is primarily a singer/frontman and The Stones already have a superb singer/frontman. Having two would just cause tension on stage with them competing with each other. They needed another skilled guitarist to replace Mick Taylor, not a new singer. IMO Dave 'Clem' Clempson would have been a better choice for The Stones.

  • Bottump

well I've never said that it would have been good or bad if he had joined The Stones. In my first comment I just wrote it was a well documented fact. I think you might have actually right because Steve had such a big personality, he wouldn't have stayed in the back for a long time....haha he even couldn't halt himself at that audition...

I just don't agree with 'the greatest frontman' part, as I said each to their own, it's a matter of taste. Marriott is my personal choice.

  • continued to theyorkshirewhites

Steve was a very good guitarist, after 22 tours in US with Humble Pie he learnt a lot ! He had a cool style, sharp and fiery.

Today I also watched an interview with Keith Richards where he names his favourite bands. He named Marriott and his work in Small Faces/Humble Pie.

  • you are a new fan !!!! so welcome at the Steve MARRIOTT fan club ....This proves tjhat you have good taste....B

  • BUT before eaving stupid, useless and agressive comments you have to know what you are talking about !!! So just start listening to ALL Steve recordings ..... O.K ?

  • I was 15 when this was going. I never got to see them, but they were huge when I was in high school. Damn, would love to see more video of them. Memories. :)

  • Forgive me, kids, as I say THOSE WERE THE DAYS!

  • ** Pumps fist into the air **

    Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!! Ste-VIE!!

  • fuc-hen A

  • Humble pie rocks

  • fucking great!!!

  • HOLY SH*T! Thanx so much for posting this! There does'nt seem to be much Pie video footage and this is brilliant!!

  • Oh man, I NEVER thought I would see the Pie doing this song. What I wouldn't give to see a live version of "Let me be your Lovemaker" from "Street Rats". Man what a band. This music will live forever.

  • brilliant stevie, one of the best..

  • it's a cool song, but can someone pleas tell my why clempson doesn't play all the lead guitar parts?

  • Marriott and Frampton always traded off. Guitar battle jamming. No reason why it would be any different with Clempson.

  • Historyguy 13, I hear you--Greg also had a powerful, expressive rock voice. Both have left an audio legacy, and now youtube brings back all the visual memories!

  • Gimme a Jerry Shirley tracksuit anyday!

  • great!!!cool!!!

  • All the studio magic in the world is wonderful, but doesn't mean a thing if you can't do it live! Humble Pie always got it on live, and this vid proves it! What a groove! As I have mentioned many times, Greg Ridley was my biggest influence on the bass. He taught me the true role of a bass player in a rock band. I miss them both a lot!

  • Think AC/DC might have been influenced by Marriot and Humble Pie?

  • Just a tad!

  • Heard Robert Plant (singer from Zeppelin) was greatly influenced by Marriot

  • Yes.he used a lot of Steves phrasing

  • I was just thinking that

  • Fucking Classic non better

  • THIS GEEZER WAS THE DOGS, WHAT A WASTE

  • I love the "Pie" - this is a "how to" video for younger bands who play out. Nothing i've seen in the past 10 years of new talent, comes close !

  • pure rock and roll, gawd bless em

  • Rock and roll truly is on its deathbed, because no one but NO ONE plays it like this any more! Long live the Pie!

  • If only they'd saved the audio from this Rainbow Theatre performance and A&M Records released it all on CD, I'd buy it...Hell, I'd buy 20! This and "C'mon Everybody" are shreddalicious!

Sorry, I had to post twice ;)

  • STEVE MARRIOTT LIVES!!!!!

  • rock bands of today, a learning lesson from the past. long live steve marriott and humble pie.

  • Thanks for posting!Blow me away!

  • I love it!

  • This is awesome footage!

  • Thank you for these HP's videos!

    Great!
