This is pretty dire, unoriginal and derivative. Listen to Shirley & Dolly Collins doing a proper unpretentious version of this lovely song on Anthem In Eden (circa 1968). Not on You Tube as far as I can see. The Turner Prize really is the artistic version of The Emperor's New Clothes
@AnnaPoppins18 I totally agree with you comment, and I to believe that sound art is the future and that it is a missing genre in the whole of the arts. I am beginning to start out in sound art for two main reasons 1) I love sound and 2) I want to draw more attention to this missing art form.
Since mass reproduction delivered art to the masses it seems the only way the 'art set' can justify their hideous superiority complex is to champion utter crap in an effort to make us unsophisticated folk feel we're missing something. It's not working, everybody is laughing at you!
Only a rather sad 40-something trying to keep up with the kids could find this exciting, challenging or even beautiful. It's simply banal and uninspired.
I've always been a fervent advocate, of creative expression, but after watching this video, I'm truly at a loss, to explain, how this won a supposedly prestigious award. I agree with the other posts; this simply isn't art. Now, if this had been a recording of someone ripping a massive fart, complete with the echo effect, THAT would be something to marvel at :)
We all know that music is powerful and has the ability to create an atmosphere... That's why people sing at rugby matches. I don't see why pointing out an obvious fact like that deserves a £25,000 prize.
This just isn't art for me! I think if you're going to be a musical artist then the artistic part is writing & performing original material that you have created yourself. Not singing other peoples music and having it played in 'poignant' or important places so that it appears to have some sort of powerful meaning. All of her work just seems to be average renditions of various songs played in various places for an effect that could be achieved by playing many other pieces of pre recorded music..
What has happened to art? Is it dead? Am I dead?... A cool echo sound under a bridge, isn't art - it's just a cool echo sound. What next, playing music slowly so it sounds all exorcisty and spooky? Would that also count? I'm going to jump off a bridge now (and probably win next year's prize in the process).

this is a heap of unmitigated pish. It sounds like a wee lassie singing whilst on the lavvy. Has british art really sunk this low?
It takes more than sticking a "z" on the end of your name, to make someone an artist I'm afraid.

I had the good fortune to hear this installation and wish that it could be made permanent. Haunting and beautiful.

I'd rather not hear this when I walk in a quiet area down by the river. It reminds me of that dreadful Suszan Phillipszzszz person.

normally when women sing like this under bridges the police take their meths and move them on - not hand them 25 grand!
