this has to be one of the most powerful music videos Ive ever seen. Not just the film, not just the music, the actual audiovisual combo is incredible.
@Sarah26630 I am 56 and still crying when i see the video ! Sold Out my guitars because i am no Neil Young or.Johnny Cash. But one year ago I find myself and bought a simple guitar and i am perfect...???
@Sarah26630 I live in Sweden and many of my favourites comes from your country or ...maybe ..the Canadian Bacon...such as Neil Young,Joni Mitchell (Heijira)...Bob Dylan..on the border to the great lakes...Leonard C would protest..because of Chelsea Hotel...Sorry...i just want to have contact....call me....if you can...
when i listen to this song it makes me want to cry. one because i loved johnny cash, and two, it makes me realize my own mortallity. we are all going to die. who is going to remember us 50 after we are gone, 100 yeas? we are only one person in a world of millions. who do i want to remember me? that is the question.
he was popular long before his last album, but he did give credit to nine inch nails, and they did say that his version had more meaning, considering his wife has just died
well he's saying that if he could go back he would find a way to make things right, but he knows he cant. So its a song of desperation, there is no hope in his words just regret and sorrow. By far one of my all time favorite songs. He sings it with such depth. Makes me cry everytime.
Possibly my favorite song of all time.. Johnny knows what its like to actually be emotionally hurt and put that pain into music, too bad we dont have more artists with atleast half the soul he does..
You know, I'm not American, I'm not a particularly fond of Johnny Cash's work and I'm not into country music (I prefer metal). But this is a song that hits you in the chest like a jackhammer. The Man in Black conveys his emotions of despair, loneliness and weariness through this song in such a powerful way that no matter what you're into, be it metal, country, emo or whatever, you can feel Johnny Cash soul in the song.
Truly a masterpiece, hope you find the rest you longed for, Johnny Cash.
my favourite song of all time. and my favourite video of all time. so much emotion, i love the fact there's no real musical accompaniment, Johnny's voice really carries the song.
i like Trent's better, but this is an interesting take on the song. Maybe it's because i don't know alot about Johnny Cash but i think it fits NIN much better, especially when the rest of the DS album is considered.
This is the greatest song in existance. I played this at my granddeddys funeral because it was his favorite. He died right after Johnny. As everyone else said, "It makes me cry too."
YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!! INCREDIBLE video...one of my all time favorite inspirations..he is my source for personal influence when it involves music...the albums he made in the past 20 years have been my favorite!! GOD Bless YA JOHNNY! Listen to his version of "Mary of the wild moor"
also.... 2:16 theres a dick sticking out of a bucket LOL

i haven't really understood.. it's a song of desperation, or a song of hope?
he says "if I could start again a million miles away I would keep myself, I would find a way "
did he find hope?

there are few songs that appeal to as many backgrounds as this one does.
and when you consider that this is the cover of the original, that just makes the song all the more impressive.

This song is very touching D: It makes me so upset when I think about how Johnny must have felt when he wrote this.
A beautiful song, and truly inspirational.

He didn't write this, its a Nine Inch Nails re-make. "truly inspired" by someone you know nothing about
foocks 2 years ago
ture. cash just re-did this song. in my opinion though, he did a much better version of it than nine inch nails. Still they are the originators
Brianbays 2 years ago
If this someone is good at it you don't need to know nothing about him to get the meaning and the feeling, the song says it by itself
Even Trent Reznor said this version is more inspired than the orginal
