  • I think one of the best parts of the whole movie is the very end when you see Mikhailov looking around and slightly nod his head, shows what respect he had for the American's and what they did

  • You know, they say that if you go to this arena, and it's quiet enough...you cna still hear the chants. :')''

  • 'A few years later the US began using professional atheletes at the games....dream teams. I always found that term ironic because Now that we have dream teams..we seldom ever get the dream"

So true, even with our Silver medal last olympics...its was fun and a thrill to watch...but didnt have the magic that this moment had. I think even had the US beaten Canada...its wouldnt have been the same.

  • @Vonstadt true---it wouldn't have been the same...but winning the gold 30 years later woulda been kinda sweet still!

  • Only ice hockey can bring Miracles :)

  • Living in Australia where no one really plays ice hockey, all i can say is This is a Great movie.

We play Aussie rules and cricket and many other sports but ICE HOCKEY IS NEVER MENTIONED DOWN HERE. gREAT MOVIE AND WHAT A PICK ME UP FILM...

  • This is the same thing when Canada beats the USSR in the 8 game of the century series. Paul henderson scores with 34 seconds left of the game gor make a draw and win the series. i was not not born when this series and the miracle on ice happens. But im sure this is the two greatest moments of the history of hockey.

  • HOW did Kurt Russel NOT WIN the oscar? crazy..

  • i love this movie!!!!

  • to tell you the truth this is the type of moment the US really needs right now

  • 14 russians didnt like this video haha

  • 14 russians didnt like this video haha

  • @Dontwrryboutit0 you're comment just goes to show how stupid you are. the soviet union is in no way similar to russia besides the land.

  • TEARS

  • other than the red sox winning in 2004 this goes down as the best moment in sports history

  • @eshak33 yea not rly

  • @eshak33 try again

  • @eshak33 2004 WS was good for boston...miracle on ice was good for the usa in its entirety

  • 14 russians watched this video

  • do you believe in miracles? yess!!!!

  • I loved this movie. My family has never seen a hockey game but we loved this movie and all it represented.

  • Comment removed

  • i just realized that this was the actual radio broadcast when they won in '80.

  • @tomdabom713 to be honest your half right, the only thing that is from the real game in 1980 is the "do you believe in miracles" line. The entire rest of the play-by-play by Al Michaels was totally recreated for the movie to give it a fresh feel, but since the studio wanted to get most authentic feel to the movie they could they decided to use the original "miracles" line at the end. Al Michaels even said he didn't think he could redo that part and make it believable as the real thing.

  • 1:58 Says the Soviet coach to himself: "Perhaps his colorful pants selection isn't such a bad look after all".

I cry when that clock hits zero - every time. U-S-A, F-T-W.

  • goosebumps. every single time..

  • 2:54 is the best moment of the movie.

  • the 14 dislikes are all russians

  • I have a major amount of respect for Herb Brooks because of how he left the ice rink area and just let the players have their moment after that game

  • @quarf53206 If you watch the 1980 of miracle on ice, Karl Malden as Herb Brooks explains to Craig Patrick, "This is their moment, not mine."

  • 4 Boston Boys were on that team. Mike Eruzione(Winthrop), Jim Craig(North Easton), Jackie O'Callahan(Charlestown), and Dave Silk(Scituate).

  • America FTW

  • The ultimate David and Goliath story. If you think about it, it was a group of kid's who brought down the red army!!

  • Best. Sports. Movie. Ever!

  • " Herb Brook never seen the movie, he lived it "

  • Kurt Russell IS Herb Brooks! PERIOD:-)

  • DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?

  • @meyouandthesky YYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSS

  • My favorite scene in the entire movie was when Kurt goes back and does that double fist pump and sits. It got me so emotional

  • single greatest moment in sports history due to how it was anything but just a hockey game and to call us Americans as underdogs would be a tremendous understatement

  • I love the line where kurt russel as herb says he doesn't know what to do because he didn't

  • Being canadian an all i'm obliged to hate american hockey, but i gotta hand it to the states, thats one hell of an accomplishment

  • This is one of my favorite movies! Kurt Russel did such a great job playing Herb Brooks and it's hard to picture him as anyone else. Great movie not just for hockey fans, but for everyone to see how much of an effect this game had on the citizens of America at the time. It's also got some great humor in it, different but funny!

  • @mhtube01 I think Kurt deserved an Oscar for playing Herb Brooks.

  • @thisisrumorcontrol He did! I couldn't believe he didn't get best actor that year. He really did deserve it.

  • "What's it look like?"

"A lot of guys from Boston and Minnesota."

    "Yeah,... that's gonna work."

    But it sure did!!

I'm from Michigan. I was working Texas oil fields at the time the rebroadcast came on. We all watch it, but I spent half the game explaining the rules. lol

  • Is there any real shots of Herb Brooks going to the locker room?

  • No, see, that's the thing, it WAS just a hockey game. I wonder what the death count was the week after this in the Soviet war in Afghanistan or later in the U.S. Invasion of Panama or Grenada. As exciting as something like the 1980 games were, we shouldn't use it as an excuse to legitimize ourselves as a nation. Watch "North Dallas Forty", it's a lot more realistic sports movie. Sorry if this is a downer.

  • And to top the game off with commentator Al Michaels screaming out the words in the dying seconds of the game: "Do You Believe In Miracles?.....YES!!!" This was a classic game and upset. Nobody expected this young American hockey team to do what they did. For true hockey fans, this movie is a must see.

  • Beautiful

  • USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA.!! One of the greatest moments in sports history. I love Miracle.

  • Not gonna lie, seen this tons of times and still have to fight back tears when I watch it

  • greatest moment in sports history and this is easily my favorite movie, however i must point out the irony that the fans at the game in this movie were all Canadian

  • Someday I'll get through this whole clip WITHOUT crying.

  • 13 people do not belive in miracles

  • the composure that these guys showed with a minute left was amazing! most people or athletes knwoing what was going to happen would get scared, sloppy or start making mistakes, but they stayed calm and played great, i guess that was a result of a great coaching staff

  • at 0:47 the Soviet coach says "FUUUUCK!!"

  • OMG! Americans is so pitiful...Make a movie for glorie of 1 match...redlol

  • @Fiorentino666 hey fuckhead! you have no clue as to what this game did and meant to the whole nation. this even was so big, and still is, that it is still celebrated to this very day! why don't you research this movie and read about what the country was like back then and who knows, u might learn something you jack wagon

  • @falconwolve1978 It`s not understandable for russians...we can understand happiness at matchday...two mounth...year...but movie...with "superpatriotic moments"...you`re dickheads? Holy crap, if I`m american hater, I`ll say that your country chewing over all victories above USSR, after soviet victory at WW2. Because USA wanted to win WW...everybody remember first place of D-Day...Balkans :/ I hope you know what I mean...from Russia with "love"

  • @Fiorentino666 lol go cry a river and dont watch it then bitch... suck on it

  • @Fiorentino666 take your hate back home

  • In soviet russia, hockey play you!!!

  • @spamerultra in soviet russia you get beat by college kids GO USA

  • Love Kurt Russell's reaction when he is alone in the hall...

  • 13 russians watched this

  • shit i can't imagine what cox and the other 5 went through when they saw this

  • @illskills707 i hope they were doing cart wheels and back flips! lol

  • Hey Russia. U MAD?

  • I wonder what the Russian coach was saying

  • 0:54 :')''

  • I'm Canadian but if you love hockey, you gotta love this!

  • Would of been funny if the Americans would of won 4-3 against Canada in the Vancouver Olympics

  • @alxzanki Yeah, like 30 years after, the Miracle happens in a diff form?

  • I thought it said they beat Finland in the final? Why is Sweden's flag raised?

also, why is USSR raised as the silver, when they got beat in the semi-finals?

  • @troy16 The way Olympic hockey worked in 1980, there was a 4 team round robin tournament. They were made up of the top two teams from each of two qualifying pools (US and Sweden from one pool; USSR and Finland in another pool). The US beat the USSR and Finland and tied Sweden, so they finished 2-0-1. The USSR beat Sweden and Finland and lost to the US, finishing 2-1-0. That's why the USSR still got a silver over Sweden, who finished 0-1-2 in the pool and Finland, who finished 0-2-1.

  • @pawpawaul Thanks for clearing that up. Before my time.

  • im not gonna lie im not even that big of a fan of hockey but this might be hands down the greatest sports moment ever.

  • @SunsetProductions23 I think the 72' Summit Series was pretty great to.

  • @SunsetProductions23 Cause it is.

  • @SunsetProductions23

maybe in american history! Do you know how many sport moments occur trough time that you have no idea of! Especial in countries that don't have film industry like Hollywood. Former Yugoslavia has so many sport achievements that are great but never made in to a movie.

  • @SunsetProductions23 I confirm that for those of the lacrosse world, haha.

  • I was there... in Lake Placid, thirty years ago, I remember everyone crying at the end.

  • In the 1980 version....it was tied against the Soviets. Then USA beat the Soviets with 2 seconds to go, and scored the winning goal. Here, I defense. How many times did the USA win the gold medal for hockey? Anyone know?

  • @gameHACK7 i think only twice... 1960 and 1980... i could be wrong though

  • It was a miracle i was there.

  • Great movie, but maybe another actor as coach Tichonov would have been better, reminds me too much of Brezhnev... =)

  • I am so glad they didn't have a actor try to re do the Al Micheals call at the end.

  • @duzing4ever

Yeah, even Al Michaels himself couldn't redo his own call.

  • @duzing4ever Al Micheals did the play by play for the whole movie. Except for the end because he couldn't re-create the original emotion so they had to dub in the original audio from the game. You might have know that. But in case you didn't now you do.

  • @duzing4ever They actually got Al Michaels when they started filming. The directed decided though that nothing would ever compare to the emotion in his voice on that day so they decided to just use the actual recordings.

  • Amo questa storia, amo questo film, amo questo Miracolo

I love this story, i love this movie, i love this Miracle

    Andrea

  • I wasn't alive when this happened, but this game is the reason my dad took me to hockey games. He always told me you'd be surprised at the power sports could have to move people.

  • @Michaelxx you're just upset that we have bigger dicks than you do.

  • @Flakbait888

hahahahahahhahahahaha that pretty much made my day

  • Too bad we do not see anymore movies about how great America has been and how great it will be again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The coach said at the end that they beat Finland in the gold medal game, but there is a USA, USSR, and SWEDEN flag going up. doesn't make scene , or am i missing something?

  • @dwt004 it was a really weird system, but that's actually how the points system or whatever it was they used worked back then. Had the U.S. lost the game vs. Finland, they would have also ended up on the short end of the stick and not medaled either!

  • @dwt004 The US-Finland game wasn't the Gold Medal game, it was one of four medal-round games. Only games against the four medal-round teams were considered in the final standings, all other games were tossed out. USA had 5 points, 2 each for beating USSR and Finland and 1 for a tie w/ Sweden. USSR had 4 pts for beating Finland and Sweden. Sweden had 3 points, 2 for beating Finland and one for the US draw. Finland went 0-3 vs. medal round teams, for 0 points.

  • usa never won anything fairly

  • That Soviet coach looks like he 'vants to suck ur bluud!'

  • Every time I watch this scene, I get tears in my eyes.

  • Go USA !! the best hockey game I have ever seen!!

  • if i could go back in time to any day, february 22nd 1980 in lake placid is where i would go.

  • @damoose28 specifically to be with Al Michaels and Ken Dryden in their booth to hear the most legendary play by play call ever!

  • wait a minute, if they beat Finland to win the gold- then Finland would get the silver. So why is Sweden up there?

  • @NHLman27 the format was different back then.

  • well the Canadian hockey team can beat the russians and usa,

  • USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

  • Simply amazing....

  • It's a great movie about hockey!

  • I wonder what Olympic basketball would be like if we still had to use amateurs?

  • I met the noah emmerich, the guy who played craig patrick last night at a restaurant, he was on a date, we told him how much we loved this movie and he took time to talk to us about it....just a great guy

  • My Favorite Movie.

  • i wish i was acually there in 1980

  • 00:20

  • can u imagine what it must have been to have actually been there to see this happen! of course pretty much every1 fully expected to see a total lop-sided blowout, instead, they got to see the greatest upset in sports history!

  • 13 MISSED THE LIKE BUTTON

  • USA USA USA !!!!!!!!!

  • @lai71690 Wonderful!

  • @Rich2000 it really was i didnt see it live bc i wasnt born yet but it was exciting is wat my father told me

  • hell, i was born 13 years after this happened and i get almost teary eyed watching this. best sports movie ever for the best game ever.

maybe a usa team will make a run like this again (cough WORLD CUP cough)

  • Long live USA. Long live freedom!

  • The Audio (Play by Play) was off, the scenary was not exact, but the scene was amazing

  • This has to be one of my favorite movies. I used to play hockey for seven years. I saw it when i did play it. I just fell in love with it because, the feel of a victory that great is just amazing.

  • always cry when I watch this greatest hockey movie ever.

  • @Mitchell519 me to, the greatest moment that will never be topped!

  • @Mitchell519 greatest hockey movie ever???? GREATEST SPORTS MOVIE EVER!!!!!!

  • greatest scene in movie history

  • anybody speak russian? what was the soviet coach shouting over and over again?

  • @nythreefer

    Score score.....Score a goal

  • @pepelepew2006 thanx!

  • i dare any1 to disagrewe with me on this comment 3:10 is the key scene in this whole movie

  • i don't even like hockey and this gives me goosebumps, great movie and sensational ending

  • Not a mistake. There are three 20 minute periods in hockey.

  • @RustyShackle78 Then why is there a 4 on the board where it shows the period?

  • @calvinhobbesliker2 overtime

  • @calvinhobbesliker2 for overtime.

  • movie mistake... at about :32 the shotclock shows its only 3rd quarter

  • @DWadeBball000 but it WAS the third period!

  • @DWadeBball000 i have a feeling you have no idea how hockey is played, its not quarters its periods and there are 3 periods a game, if it remains at a tie at the end of those 3, it goes into overtime, dont say something unless you know what your talking about.

  • @Jakeseatspie13 nipple puss

  • God, I'm so proud to be an American! <333

  • I bawl like a baby every.single.time.

  • 2:40-253 was the biggest scene in the whole movie b/c herb didn't know how to react to knowing that he was involved in a cataclismic event that had/will forever change the way hockey will ever be viewed. and how in the world was kurt russell not nominated for an oscar for his performance as herb brooks?

  • @falconwolve1978 very good observation! and i agree how russell was absolutely robbed

  • @falconwolve1978 so true, i think he was just so full of emotion he was about to explode shit i know i would be, what an amazing moment...

  • @falconwolve1978 because they botched all of the emotion in the scene. Herb didn't stay after the buzzer, he didn't look at anyone, he left the ice. He didn't "Michael Jordan" and shrug his shoulders to the Soviet coach, he just left the ice. "This is their moment, not mine." he would say. Disney botches any kind of emotion in sports movies and this takes the cake.

  • @falconwolve1978 in actuality, he just stormed off the bench and into the locker room. he felt it would be hypocritical to celebrate with a team that he actually wasn't close to!!

  • by far one of the greatest sports movies ever made

i have seen this movie many times but every time i tear up at this scene

  • i dont get why the russian coach didnt pull the goalie.

  • @barkleysound He didn't know what to do. They had never been in that situation.

  • b/c he was too full of himself to do such a thing. don't 4get something, this is still considered to be the best team in hockey history. when you have the forwards that he had, it would have been considered embarrassing to his team to do such a thing. and one more thing, they had never trailed so this was something new to him so he had no idea on how to deal with adversity

  • @barkleysound

Because the coach had "NEVER" been in that situation.

  • longest minute of their lives

  • I've seen this movie several times but i still chills watching this part.

  • Like the USA is going to win Gold again in Mens hockey.

I have more faith in their womens team

  • The final scene of Miracle is one of the greatest endings in all of film IMHO. Even though I'm Canadian, it gives me goosebumps to think about the odds the US team had and they came though to win Gold on home ice.

  • @Scorehound it wasn't the gold medal game, we had to beat finland a week later

  • @otigerstud2 I'm aware of that. I was referring to after they beat the Soviets.

  • @otigerstud2 T Miracle On Ice took place Feb 22, 1980 The gold Medal game took place Feb 24, 1980, NOT the 29th! As a 14-year old, I watched the game on ABC with my parents. Rob McClanahan(#24) scored the game-winner in that game, and USA wore their Blue jerseys

  • @Scorehound and now you know how it feels to win gold on home ice, you beat us fair and square thanks to jarome iginla's great pass (sorry not taking crosby's goal as credit, iginla's pass was amazing)

  • i love true story's..& this was a great movie to watch..Thank you ^_^

  • Hail to the atheletes. Grace in victory and in defeat. If only the fans could learn a lesson.
