I was around 4 years old when I first saw this on an old WB VHS tape my grandma gave me. It also had a few other cartoons on it. I would always watch it before I went to bed, but I had to make sure I fell asleep before this cartoon came on because the "Scary dark monsters" as I called them prevented me from sleeping. I'm 20, and was happy to re-find this video and realize that the monsters were crude stereotypes of african americans.
I am absolutely not a racist or a bigot in anyway, but watching these cartoons, though they do depict stereotypes, makes me all happy inside because I grew up watching Looney Tunes and old cartoons like Tom and Jerry, though I was born in 1994, Cartoon Network definitely helped expose me to them. Old cartoons are a part of American history because think about it, these cartoons Millennials watched in the 90s and early 2000s are the same cartoons kids would tune into in the 60s and 70s. I luv it!
Racism aside... it was actually quite boring. But, most old cartoons are boring & stupid. Let's face it, none of us would watch this if not for the blatant racism and to go, "I feel so smart right now." God, our ancestors were stupid.
@Pasalaqcua Considering that cartoons today are even worse with stereotypes, it's not nearly as bad. And, if you remember, the whites in this episode are idiots. The salesman is a slow, country bumpkin who talks like he may have graduated kindergarten the year before.
@TheLairOfRockwhales No I dont think so. If they were white acting in this same manner then it would look as though they were mocking a culture, which makes it worse...
But not only that it depicts African as being cannibals... they look at his a being chicaken of all things. They have a white Queen, who fanticized about white men..
@TheLairOfRockwhales , depends. If there are such things as smart white people in the media than it would be a-ok. If this cartoon's depiction of white people is the only depiction made available, then you would understand why this is racist. In the meantime, continue living in your bubble.

@Henryduckfan63 when i first saw "Sunday Go To Mettin' Time" (1936), the quality was crap and it was absolutely creepy but still enjoyable (and not being racist)
@DefLeppardVanHalen hahaha, persoanlly, I see a LOT wrong with these cartoons, but censoring them is ignoring past mistakes; as far as I see it, recognize they exist, recognize they happened, and remember to be more considerate and equal in the future.
This cartoon reinforces the racist patriarchal hierarchy that exists in our society. It also portrays black bodies as mechanized. Additionally, it portrays the black men in the cartoon as ambiguously gendered, reinforcing the projection of otherness onto black and native bodies while simultaneously reinforcing constructed gender norms
Why does the black guard have a Japanese accent?
