Now, he's solid for most of the game and great at some points. Like it or not, the Celtics and Kevin Garnett have done WONDERS for defense in the NBA. Now, everyone thinks that they play for a defensive team, and guys who took possessions off (Lebron James) claim to like defense more than offense.

He did things for people for no other reward other than the other person. When KB grows up and develops into a man, then he has the chance to be in the top few ever to play the game.

Easily one of the most overrated defenders there is. I can't believe he's been on the all defensive team so many times. He doesn't even go all out on the defense end 100% of the time...only a player that does should be on an defensive team. Even Jeff Van Gundy said it in his broadcast during one of the playoff games that Kobe isn't consistent at all defensively that sometimes he isn't interested in it then other times he's all going all out. Truly great defenders always go out.
Kobe rarely goes more then 50% during a game and everyone knows it, he only makes the defensive teams because he's Kobe Bryant not because he is particularly special as a defender.
He wouldn't be a 5 or 6 time All NBA First Team Defender if he sucked at defense. He's the only one in the league that plays GREAT offense AND defense.

Agree with Kitanik, almost all of these clips are when kobe and shaq were playing together. Kobe's defense has dropped quite a bit since shaq left IMO. And don't even compare kobe's defense to MJ's. MJ was a consistent amazing defender his entire career.
8 of his past 11 seasons were with shaq, so naturally most of the highlights will be during shaq's time. also kobe didnt need to help defense for his other teammates as the shaq days had much more reliable defenders that didnt need kobe covering for them. You do know that it's a hype machine, right? Kevin Garnett would have like 4 MVPs if they really chose the most valuable player. Shane Battier would be a multiple DPOY if the rockets had a record like the Celtics. Lakers are a hollywood team, and he plays the shooting guard position. For such a "great defender" he sure got destroyed in the finals by paul pierce and ray allen. Btw, ray allen is a better defender than Kobe

I can argue that Kobe Bryant should have 4 MVP's as well if they really chose the "most valuable player."
As great as an individual player is, no one player can take on a whole team; especially one like the Celtics. Kobe didn't defend Pierce as good because most were pick and rolls in which Kobe was taken out of the play by a screen. No defender can do anything about that.
And Ray Allen is not even close to being as good a defender as Kobe is. You're just talking out of your ass now.

The difference is in the play, not the stats or accolades. Watch Ray Allen defend Kobe, the supposed best player ever..he shuts him down. Watch Kobe defend Ray Allen..Ray sets a new finals record. Watch them play and you will see the difference.
And he's only won one MVP because he's blatantly ballhogged every year of his career, until now they were only winning when there was a player on the Lakers who was better than Kobe(shaq), so no MVP for Kobe if he isn't even the best on the team..

look, im not a big suck on kobes dick fan...but i watched the finals, allen played very good defense on him but did not shut him down or keep him from hitting shots kobe scored with a hand in his face.
kobe in my eyes is an overrated defender, but he does deserve MULTIPLE MVPS as well
pierce on the other hand i will admit he kept him from scoring majority of times, im willing to even bet pierce is a better defender watching him in the playoffs...but allen (please) no comparison

yes, 7-22 when being guarded by either paul pierce and james posey...they switched mainly those two defenders on and off of him along with allen in some cases but it was posey and pierce who shut him down.

Agree with Kitanik, almost all of these clips are when kobe and shaq were playing together. Kobe's defense has dropped quite a bit since shaq left IMO. And don't even compare kobe's defense to MJ's. MJ was a consistent amazing defender his entire career.

8 of his past 11 seasons were with shaq, so naturally most of the highlights will be during shaq's time. also kobe didnt need to help defense for his other teammates as the shaq days had much more reliable defenders that didnt need kobe covering for them. Lastly, Kobe does a lot on the offensive end and Phil Jax would not want to exert all his energy on D. Pippen checked the opponents best player not Jordan.
