When I worked at the drag strip there was no emergency training. I was the oldest at the dragstrip I was at and when something would happen the rest of the track staff would stand around because they didn't know what to do and lucky someone didn't get killed from it so I tought them 2 things 1 shut off the master & 2 the correct way to put out a fire.

they didnt turn off the master disconnect switch leading for the fire to spread faster, the fuel pump was still on you can tell by the flames near the hood scoop but no im sure the guy got out luck were mandated by nhra and ihra to wear sfi approved multilayer firesuit if the car doesnt retain stock flooring or firewall

I might add that NO2 does not burn by it's self. It's an oxygen medium and is not flameable.

Looks more something broke and pieces hit the fuel cell. Maybe NO2 accelerated the fire though.

I had a bottom end blow one year and NO2 definitely kept the oil burning cause the soloniod was damaged in the open position and that was with a measly street 428, can't imagine on these big boy cars.

You can actually see the NO2 line accerlating the fire, it's sort of blowing a jet of flame about across the hood. Probably actually igniting the paint. One thing I have learned, EVERYTHING is flamable when you use an oxidiser.

this car was running a race fuel around 118 octane. the nitrous backfire is what kept the car burning so long. nitrous was still being sent to the motor but the fuel is shut down by the driver in a case like this.

The timing of the car could have been off causing the intake valve to be open when the cylinder fires letting the fire go back up through the intake manifold causing the carburetors to explode.
