The Italian horn is just a good luck charm, to protect against bad luck/evil spirits. At least that was what it was for older Italians, now it is kind of an Italian pride thing for younger Italians. It is basically the Italian equivalent of what the four leaf clover was for the Irish, used to be for superstition (and still is for some older/traditional folks) but is worn more now for national/ethnic pride.
Jon is right that the libertarian side does not usually focus on the sob stories. Unfortunately, telling the sob stories seems to be necessary to affect change. I think it is embarrassing to have to make things about a one sad situation instead of simply winning on pure logic and mechanism.
@goPistons06 Not the Scandinavian countries which actually have really free markets and that do not have mass redistribution of wealth like the States and France. In places like Sweden, if you pay more in, you get more out. There is little incentive to go Galt like there is in the States or Canada. Sweden and Norway actually have far freer economies than the US.
But seriously, progressives, the data's in.
Hong Kong's nearly free market vs Venezuela, Cuba, France, etc.
@AshillaBeige HAHAHAH! Sweden's economy is about the size of Atlanta's. The entire Scandinavian economy if put together wouldn't be as big as Washington State. You add in the enormous amount of money the government gets from selling the oil it pulls out of the ground (btw it's not as efficient as any private orginization at it) The Scandinavian economy is probably the single worst comparison for the argument you're trying to make.
@daPlumber702: Washington state GDP (in millions): 351,100. Sweden GDP (in millions): 455,848. Norway: 414,462. Finland: 239,232. Scandinavia total: 1,109,542. Not quite, buddy. Only three states in the country have a higher GDP than Scandinavia
Don't worry Nick, I'd do ya.
