  • Intro>Cliffs of Dovers noobs of music.

  • and still makes it look like it's as easy as smoke on the water -.-

  • I always loved this version the best, even more than studio. The way he can blend clean improvisation with all that distorted intro AND still play the song perfectly is just awesome. AAAAND he can STILL play that greatly today! Eric Johnson has been a stellar performer since the first time he stepped on the stage and doesn't seem able to drop the quality even after so many years - something so many guitarists and singers alone can't do; yet he can still do both as if it were still the 80's!

  • thumbs up if you hate people that ask for thumbs up

  • @bubbles50100 Why are you asking for thumbs up then...

  • The intro to this song is fantastic, I don't really know why anyone would get butthurt about it :/

  • Looks like Alex Lifeson.

  • Wow lots of this is amazingly beautiful, then he randomly comes out with streams of licks that make me want to puke for their uninventiveness and atonality and also anality...

  • @Felderoth

    jealousy is a funny thing

  • @infinityjet Tis indeed, but that doesnt change the fact that alot of this is anality...

  • he's a very underrated guitarist

  • Impressive that he can play like that for ten minutes..

  • I like how every live video I've seen of this song every time it is completely different.

  • dios mio johnson sos un animal!! grosooooo!!!

  • I don't see whats wrong with the intro, its pretty awesome and mellow, I could listen to that all day tbh :)

  • Can play this song is my best wish by many years. Now I can play only chorus. LOL

  • DAT HAIR!

  • Best 10 minutes in my life... Love it!!!

  • I feel so blessed to have actually been at this show. It was at the Bottom Line in NYC.The guy who invited me was doing a review of the show for a local music rag. I was not familiar with him at the time but the dude assured me it was a must see. Needless to say ,I was shocked beyond repair by the end of the set. One of the best Guitarists ever obviously. Nice mullet he was sporting too !!! sign o the times !!!

  • the first 5 mins are like a foreplay xD the greatest foreplay ever!!!

  • before you ignorant people diss the intro, try to play it, then youll be like.. oh shitt...

  • I swear from like 4:35 to 5:30 my ears actually got confused into thinking they were hearing a violinist performing a cadenza from some epic violin concerto. EJ is sick like that.

  • @primeDecomposition ABSOLUTLY MAN, that's it: a violin or cello piece. HAD THE SAME impressi

  • no joke this video is so good that for some reason it made me twitch 3 times!

  • @jarodcox1996 me too during the 3 choruses lol

  • 6:50 Even masters make mistakes!

  • @Carthsgtr

and 7:02 finger got caught a fret short there.

90's question: Is he getting tired, dude?

    Today's question: Problem, Johnson?

  • The four who disliked this video need to get there ears checked.

  • Amazing! His speed between the light through the stargazer with that his richy tones !

  • Am I the only one who thinks that the intro is better than the song itself?

  • @snelseb hell yeah!!!!!! eric johnson is the best guitar player i've ever known..and i am at guitar the way i am, because of him..x_x

well, with being said..i dont like cliff of dover xDDDDDDDDDDDDDD the song is just not cool..the only think i like of the song, is the minutes before the actual song..the magic O_O

btw, danny gatton should've won the prize instead of cliffs of dover

  • whats he on speed lOL x

  • I can't believe he sold this guitar! :(

  • @screenpuller yea x_x he thinks that, his guitars..have a time to be with him..so when they complete their 'mission', they complete their cicle..so he just sell them xDDD

but he once said, selling that guitar was a bad idea..

  • 4 people don't know true skill when they hear it.

  • How can you dislike this?

  • one of the most unique sounding musicians out there. Something about his tone and his vibrato.

  • the intro is prob harder

  • Wow...that haircut lol

  • What idiots are dissing the intro.....open your ears and minds, it is beautiful....

  • @cyprescrow yeah the intro is the thing

  • @cyprescrow thats very subjective, so thats an invalid argument.

  • 5:39 Cliffs of Dover

  • You should see my CLiffs of Dover cover on my channel.

  • @AlisonChaynes I like that ambient intro more that the actual song.

  • how can such a talent and such a genius only get 17k videos... I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

  • @Elemy69 Then you have the "How to trick people into thinking you have big boobs" video that has over eight million views. Now there's some talent.

  • @Elemy69 me either nothing but fools and scumbags...mainly, not everyone thank goodness...still quite depressing

  • he doesnt even have to look

  • I know this song from Guitar Hero 3. Damn cool..

  • In some ways I think the intro is better than the actual song... It must be that shimmering clean tone...

  • -TheRealBDSlick- it doesnt matter if eric made a mistake. his the original composer of this song. the notes that eric plays in this live show song is unpredictable. all guitar artist change their versions in live sessions.

  • @leoren05 Jerry Reed (one of Eric's big influences) said during a live show that a lot of people come to hear him make mistakes and that they could rest easy as he made sure to rehearse a few of them into the songs..........

  • i love the intro of this instrumental song

  • Not only Eric is just superb in his playing, the hole band, drums, bass guitar support are simply true straight commited musicians

  • @educassiano exactly

  • @screechkid116 lol, yeah, what could I say... I mean, the guy sounds absolutellly numb to the hole enviorment and texture built on Eric's playing... I mean... come on.

  • @AlisonChaynes song starts at 0:00, just cause you don't like the intro, it doesn't mean it didn't start there. Lol

  • @educassiano who gives a shit i just wanna hear cliffs of dover

  • @gili03 That's the thing, enjoy

  • @Zizzister lets see you remember all of that and play it correctly everytime

  • @MrMegawilliams91 I would if I had the skill, but who needs to know how to play the song to know if Eric is playing the song right when you are skilled at the ear notation theory?

  • lol this is like the only version i can watch, all the others without the 5 min intro just feel odd. lol but this one is perfect.

  • I remember Chet Adkins and talk about self imposed pressure he was discussing the beginning of each gig; " I can always count on the first few rows populated with guitar players. I know they're just waiting & watching for my first mistake"......I'll bet he had butterflies the size of dinner plates!!! But hey, he's Chet and he is the Standard by which all are judged.

  • Zajebiste! :-)

  • One of the BEST EJ performances....

  • Well the so called 'mistake' was actually a mistake, you can actually hear that it was unintended :) BUT, amazing video...

  • @TheRealBDSlick Define mistake. Perhaps another happy accident?

  • @TheRealBDSlick I heard it.... And that was the coolest note! I love it!

  • @TheRealBDSlick at least we all know...he's human

  • @TheRealBDSlick And like a true musician...he keeps playing as if it never happened. One of the key rules for any musician is to not let yourself get "hung up" on a simple mistake. You just keep going.

  • When I went to the 1st G3 tour I had some misinformed Steve Vai fans around me and before the show the kept wondering why Steve was playing before Eric. I said after you hear Eric rip you might wonder he was playing before Satriani. When these Vai fans were watching Eric the were dead silent with their mouths open. This song is a pure instrumental masterpiece.

  • Best guitar man on World!

  • i love how he is so beautifully improvising around the structure of such a brilliant composition that he wrote himself.. this intro KILLS ME! he's like a guitar angel... i can play the studio version but not this stuff haha

  • Comment removed

  • I love this guy, wow! I saw him as a guest on Austin City Limits with Clint Black, have been a fan ever since.
