I definitely second the recommendations for Twelve Kingdoms (also known as Juuni Kokki) and Seirei no Moribito. Both are masterpieces that truly need to be experienced, especially if you found Kemono no Souja Erin to be a good series.

it isn't a manga but a novel... the ending is sad in the novel but the anime tv series and the novel has many thing that's very different so i'm hoping that in the tv series it has a different ending(just hoping)...
