Hal Laboratory made the Super Smash Bros series, so it makes since that a lot of Master Hand's attacks are inspired by a Kirby boss since Hal is responsible for making a lot of the Kirby games.

That explains his moves, but I still believe that he represents the person playing with the trophies, which gain a life of their own(a la toy story) and rebel. This would explain why he is refered to as "master" and why he(or a very similar glove) appears in the character select.
