  • Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell: two of the most underrated F1 drivers of the 90s who would have deserved a real chance in competitive top teams. Great to see the two in the 2007 Williams-Toyota, demonstrating that they haven't lost a bit of their skills!

  • Two wonderful cars and former greats, loved the video :)

  • Just Simply Amazing...

  • great video.

  • can definitely use these tactics for my race this summer.

  • poor martin, struggling to talk

  • @serginietor ...cause he is driving an f1 car? it aint easy. lets see you do better. ;)

  • @f1matt of course because he is driving a car, it's terribly hard to breathe in one of those cars.. even harder to speak.. that's why i said it

  • does no one know that martin brundle was successful in sports car racing winning 24 hours of le mans once?

  • These two were epic at Daytona this year, for two middle-aged Dads supposedly "past it".

  • We all know Martin Brundle is a racing driver right??

  • Too bad they couldn't have an F1 pilote whom won races commentating. Brundle was okay and I sincerely enjoy his commentary. I look forward to Coulthard.

  • Subtitles would be nice

  • is it just me or those two are really trying to replicate the "Silverstone Two Steps" at 1:40 ?

  • but the rules say that he can move back into the braking zone

  • Really is a fantastic video and Martin Brundle is a true legend. One small question.

Can somebody tell me the name of the song at the end of the video?

    It would be appreciated.

  • @michaelcort83 Oasis - Fuckin' in the Bushes (from their album "Standing on the Sholders of Giants")

  • Brundle was always a real cool guy in F1. I always liked his interviews before and after races. Top dude :)

  • Geezers kicking ass :)

  • Martin Brundle is really an extraordinary driver and commentator. Not only can he still drive these cars decently quick, but he can actually get a coherent sentence together whilst doing it. Brilliant stuff.

  • Martin Brundle is a true legend....,,,

  • Yes, I totally agree with Martin B. Overtakes are the real equivalent of goals or tries.

  • So is it actually "Blun-DELL"? I've pronounced it like that to distinguish it from Brundle, but I've also heard it pronounced "BLUN-dell". I thought that was the correct pronunciation.

  • Martin Brundle is a god

  • that's really nice

  • i like this dude...he should have driven 4 better team n at least win one championship in his belt like schumacher 7 after winning 2x with benetton

  • @szewei85 haha i was referring 2 mr brundle n its surprising 2 know he teamed up with the upcoming 7x champion in the weak benetton b4 94 spec lolz

  • So confusing trying to know who's talking..

Could have got distinctly different helmets haha?

    I love Martin :)

  • @sydneyfc

Yeah, I thought that, sometimes Mark just sounded like Martin under the strain of the corners

  • mais 2 toux sont là ! Un postillon a u Milieu ? Non, mais dites donc § Envoyé spécial de sa gracieuse majesté, crachez dans vos cerveaux, s'il y fait trop bo

  • @jeanpierretaillandie

c'est pas français ton commentaire !!!

  • Brundle is an absolute legend as always. Somebody knight this man

  • @flightstarwalker not brundles biggest fan then?

  • Someone below said we don't want Nascar-style overkill. True, but there is less than there used to be in F1. To improve the current relative lack of over-taking, I believe the solutions are simple:

First, the cars need to be designed so that they are not displacing air in a way that makes it almost impossible for similarly-paced vehicles to catch each other up.

And we also need to drop the bullshit 'romance' behind the qualifying shoot-out. Go back to the Fri-Sat one-shot format from 2003.

  • @kisbie

They need ground effects and shaped floors back. The reason why they can't pass, even now with the "low downforce" regulations, is because nearly all of the downforce being made by the cars is supplied by the front and rear wings.

If the FIA removed the limitations on flat floors and allowed teams to shape them then the cars would be much less reliant on the wings to create enough downforce for medium and high speed corners.

  • @kisbie

And the qualifying format is trash. Random draw, one car at a time, one lap to do it with and whoever goes the fastest and makes the least number of mistakes gets a nice grid position to show for it.

Qualifying shouldn't be about strategy or mind games, it should be about speed. Something that has been lacking in recent years.

  • @PulletSurprise correct

  • Hmm, Brundle seems to be doing all the talking.

  • @lucarioguy111 Imagine the poor commentators where you had Blundell and Brundle teammates at Brabham, particularly the non-english speaking ones.

  • They both used to drive for Ligier as team mates a long time ago.

  • 1993 isn't it

  • His last words about overtaking: True indeed!!!

Id rather have fewer overtakes that are special, meaningfull og welldone, than "Nascar-constant-turning-left slipstreaming" where overtaking happens every second, and then inflation sets in and it looses its meaning!

    VIVA F1!

  • really good clip, u can see that these guys are pushing like 70 % here :)

  • what are your justifications for this claim??

  • SUCH a good video... thanks guys!

  • LOL gran turismo music

  • The dummy move is excactly how Mansell owned Piquet

  • regarding the block, I would contest that it is okay to move a second time to pick up the racing line into a corner, providing you don't smear your opponent off the track...it happens all the time without consequence

  • FW29's?

  • FW29b's or FW30's because of Toyota

  • hah that's even more interesting that a simple conversation turns to personal insults...GL but you need to watch and read about Formula 1 abit more.

  • muito bom

  • You can hear the effect of the g-forces in Martin's voice, as he strains to commentate.

It must be totally exhausting to drive through an entire grand prix. Great video.

  • It's amazing how Martin Brundle can drive an F1 car at full speed and Commentate simulataniously.

  • @AduneStormwind They are obviously driving at 85% at most.

  • @AduneStormwind agreed, the man is a proper legend!

  • @AduneStormwind

coz hes clearly no where near full speed under braking or through the corners...............

  • @AduneStormwind lol they are going nowhere near full speed...

  • @AduneStormwind It's because Martin Brundle is amazing! Oneof the best drivers to unfortunately never win a championship. As said, you can tell by his voice that he is struggling. The G forces make breathing difficult, so talking is VERY difficult!

  • "Hang him out to dry" Lmao,I heard Martin use this expression at this weekends GP.I think his experience as a F1 driver makes him a perfect commentator.Remember his horror crash at 190 mph in Australia? How he looked back at the wreckage, and then proceeded to run back for the spare car. That took incredible nerve, for that alone I will always be a Brundle fan.

  • Well when there's a Murry Walker, you can't call anyone else a "perfect" commentator in Formula 1.

  • You must take into consideration Walker's never driven an F1 car competitively.

  • I don't talk about their racing experience...you talked about Commentatory and I said it is well known around the world that there's only one voice of grand prix, it's Murry!

For driving experience, yeh, Martin has that thing under his belt.

  • You sound very pedantic mate ! You could do with spelling Murrays name correctly too.Have you been out socially recently?Lol.

  • no, but he's had to drive one in a publicity stunt. for the practice try, he did it quite well, but when it was filmed, the car did royally 5 meters before stalling

  • @flightstarwalker I diagnose you as a ,bitter, underachiever, with a propensity to violence if under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

    Dismissed.

  • fate correre brundle al posto di quel pippone di nakajima

  • is this realy the place to be posting comments like that it has nothing to do with the topic at hand and this was a great video

  • i find that offensive to satan worshippers as well... :P

  • lol instead of what would jesus do it;s what would satan do lol

  • COOL!!!!

  • found Brundle's site. Looks fantastic. Great vids and pics.

    martinbrundledotcom

    Enjoy

  • Great posting,thx a lot.

  • i ever confused with that two drivers

  • Being hung out to dry would be so annoying to me lol.Brilliant video, from two ace drivers.

  • Thanks a lot, very good video!!

  • i hope the bbc can produce content as good as this from now on

  • nice,

  • that was amazing, they both prob loved it, former team mates racing all afternoon, awesome, 5 stars

  • Awesome video, Brundle and Blundell did a great job.

  • Facinating Clip

  • I LOVE BLUNDELL :))

  • Veryron would beat an F1 car on a long straight. Round a lap, not a chance in hell. To be honest I would expect an Enzo to be faster than a Veyron round a lot of shorter tracks. Veyron handles brilliantly for what it is, but still sh*t compared. Remember when they demonstrated it in front of potential owners at Laguna Seca and they span it, even with traction control and the loads of other nannying electronics that make it feel you driving a train and not a car.

  • there's too much weight transfer for a sports car

  • Top Gear finally got a Veyron round their track and it was too heavy to get a good speed up. It's 5th on their fastest lap times I think.

  • 4th actually ;)

  • yea until the caterham came along with half the power which put the veyron down to 5th

  • i like the dummy move . nico did a good job of it

  • Hamilton's "Hang" was not really a good example of a "Hang", they just want to use him a lot lol

  • Overseer - 'Supermoves'

    two great pilots

  • more action and overtaking in this video than in most races of season ;) (joke)

  • I was thinking the same.

  • Oops, this was meant to be a response to jschabik

  • great to see the brundell brothers :D

  • they're not brothers,dude!

  • i know. i wrote "brundell brothers" cause both martin and mark got a very similar surname.

  • Mark Blundell is a cool guy, isn't he?

  • I love Martin Brundle!

  • It's useful in karting too !

  • awesome clip... what's the song of the beginning? thx

  • ur talking out ur ass, treams use about 10 sets of engine covers and nose cones and various other bits to fine tune the set up, it not all about front and rear wing guys!

  • I have this video in my iPod,it's brilliant!

  • Sir Frank would have a seizure if those 2 ever crash in one of those sessions. :P

  • nice learning video

  • Nope! I'm sorry but it just isn't, it couldnt even catch a Caparo T1 road car, let alone an F1 car, infact I think a even a Formula Ford would be faster than the F50.

  • I agree with you. It was my 11-year-old Fezza fanatic brother who wrote that, not me!!

The only thing thats close to an F1, IS an F1!!!

  • Road cars are not built to the performance of formula 1 cars. Ferrari F40's and F50's are fantastically fast but are not built for the sole purpose of racing.

  • finally ppl who know that f1 car owns bugatti and remember they are actually rev limited and the horsepower is limited aswell becoz if they werent power limited they would produce over 1200hp and over 24,000rpm

  • the proven max speed of a Honda F1 is 413km/h complying with fia regulations

  • that i think is because of the downforce the f1's produce even if you flatten the frontwing and make the rear wing to a fin. the body's aero dynamics can't be changed. they could make the f1 to a flat car, but it wouldn't be an f1 anymore

  • 24k reliably ? I think not

  • Great video!

But... his accent wasn't the only thing defining him as british.

  • two legends

  • you lol cuz its a road car,and you can't compare a basic car on a high speed tuned tuner race car!

  • very informative, nice piece of driving from martin and mark, neither of them have lost any driving skill

  • thanks for the video really enjoyable and intresting

  • deviam me convidar... mas!

  • Great video, gives a very informative insight into overtaking.

  • mossmusic you are stupid it is the FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE L'AUTOMOBILE

  • mossmusic was being facetious, idiot!

  • That was a joke you know topgunpa!

  • Mark & Martin FTW !

  • Dark Alex 4ever in ourt hearts Dark Alex para siempre en la tierra Dark Alesek betirako lurrean

  • Wrong! Top speed ever recorded of an F1 car was 410 km/h (255 mph) during the Bonneville 400 record attempt by Honda F1. Look it up.

  • but the bugatti would not be anywhere near the accelaration and cornering of an F1 car.

  • a bugatti wouldnt be anywhere near cornering but it would give a f1 car shit by accelarating, believe me.

0-100 it's not slower maybe even faster and from 100-200 it's definitly much faster than a f1car

  • yes, i do agree with you but i think i phrased it wrong. i sort of meant in an overall lap of a cicuit. It wouldn't be able to touch an F1 car. but, for what it is and the size of it compared to an F1, it is some machine!

  • and i agree with that one, a bugati might be faster wiht accelarating or "as fast as a f1car" but in an overall lap the bugati wouldnt be anywhere comparing the times of a f1 car.

I'm not sure but i think that even the ferrari 430 is faster on a track

  • You're all wrong - no road car (not even the bugatti veyron) even comes close to F1.

F1 weighs just 500 kg, Veyron 2000 kg!!!!

So power:weight ratio of F1 is 3 to 5 times greater (F1 power ranging from 750 to 1300 HP, depending on which year).

F1 kicks it's ass not just in cornering and braking, but acceleration too - the whole package!

  • And if you took them both to the autobahn, you'd set the wings to near zero on the F1 (no drag) and hit 450 kmh, the veyron just 406 kmh.

  • yes, with no wings an f1 car would fly (literally), but having looked at these facts, i now think that an F1 car would be able to beat the veyron in accelaration. Renault R26 (2006) 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 2.0 seconds 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph): 3.9 seconds 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph): 8.6 seconds* * subject to wing settings Bugatti Veyron 0-60mph (97km/h):2.46 secs 0-100mph (161km/h):5.5 secs 0-150mph (241km/h):9.8 secs 0-200mph (322km/h):24.2 secs 0-250mph (402km/h):55 secs
  • excellent figures man - you are 100% correct - Formula 1 eats the Bugatti Veyron alive - even in acceleration (where the latter is closest to the former) let alone the whole package of braking and cornering (ie. circuits).

    FORMULA 1 RULEZ!

  • i couldn't agree with you more! cant wait for the new season to start! COME ON MCLAREN!!!!

  • Formula one used to rule!!

Back in the mid nineties, when the cars looked great. and there was no poxy T.C!!

  • Yes - the 80's and 90's absolutely kicked ass on the modern era.

  • Traction and launch control are outlawed for the 2008 season. Should make it a bit more interesting.

  • this is so stupid. one is a race car and one is a road car. of course a race car (almost infinitely adjustable) - a F1 car at that - will always be faster than a road car.

  • absolutely... if you remove the car's wings, you'd enter the 3rd gearbox upside down in the stands hahahahaha.... the car in 2nd gear with no wings takes off

  • The Veyron isn't a good car really it just a road supercar it isn't even the fastest road car let alone as fast as an F1 car!

I mean look at the figures the fact is if you were to go flat out 253mph, the car would use all of its fuel & empty it's 16.4litre fuel tank in just 15 minutes!

No supercar will ever be a match for an F1 car, these race bred thoroughbreds are specifically designed for ultimate acceleration & ultimate lap time which have gone through 58 years of constant evolution

  • top fuel dragster empties its tank in 5 seconds!

  • The veyron is shit!

We all know that - but try telling that to the imbeciles on the Veyron videos - they think its actually faster than F1 - when we all know it would be lapped by an F1 car in only 3 laps!

I am serious - I have had endless arguments with them about it but they won't accept the truth no matter what facts you throw at 'em - they are like religious zealots - they just won't listen to reason.

  • Yep, some people just wont accept facts personally I'd ban the lot of 'em!!!

  • I wouldn't call it shit. But obviously it isn't as fast as an F1 car.

  • lol, i don't know what these guys have said, but a veyron does have a higher top speed than an F1 car, even in low downforce set up. theoretically it would eventually win out in a straight line. although the F1 would accelerate to the top speed much quicker, on an infinite straight the veyron would eventually overtake, then the SSC aero would overtake that apparently lol.

but yes, on a track the Bugatti would be lost without a hope of keeping up

  • nah - Veyrn top spee is only 405 kph. F1 does 370kph at Monza even with wings on (used to make it faster around corners and on brakes). On the "infinitely long straight" you mention, F1 would simply run no wing at all and increase its top speed to aroung 450kph.

  • Very true, the Honda F1 speed record attempt a couple of years back saw their car hit over 400kph even WITH all FIA restrictions in place.

Of course the car was modified slightly, but it was totally race legal.

F1 engines, even the lower powered V8's that we see today, are amongst the most powerful in the world and there's not a road-car engine out there that can match them.

  • what a lesson ! thanks for the vid

  • Great vid, to bad we won't be seeing anymore of him next season. The FIA (Ferrari International Association) will surely block his Press Accreditation after his comments on the Spygate saga. Good for him for showing how stupid the FIA really are!! Down with Mosley!!

  • Interesting video!

  • Nice filming , a lot of usable information :P

  • yeah ill try this out in my Excel next time some old bitch in a Camry pulls out in front of me ..

  • lol

  • Great Vid.

  • great vid thanks for that

  • great. cheers for the vid

  • yeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssss

  • Come si vede che vengono da un'altra generazione di auto!

Notate come non conoscono i punti delle cambiate (dal suono dei giri/motore,ovviamente!)

  • Excellent video! Fun stuff indeed...

These moves apply to sports car racing also, albeit without the very high F1 downforce.

  • Very interesting video... Thanks very much!

  • Cool vid. F1 is awesome!

  • oh my gad fantastic martin brundle that with murray walker, are the best f1 english commentator of all time.

  • two great legends..nice vid

  • Martin Brundle, one of the best drivers that sadly never achieved world champion status.

  • LoL how early did Mark brake when they were doing the switchback?

  • Besides being a great video for it's action entertainment value, it's a brilliant lesson in F1 driving.

  • nice vid

  • i knew all the technique except for the first one! interesting :)

  • this is the best clip with cars ever seen

  • great video.

is this a part of a movie or tv show?
