He had two alternative suicide plans: shooting himself or jumping out of a window. He had this letter in his drawer all along and should he had gone with the shooting option, he would've simply gotten rid of the letter before killing himself. This of course would've required some time to prepare immediately before his death which he didn't have because he was in a meeting and the police were waiting for him outside; so he went with plan B and jumped out of a window.
