it doesn't surprise me to find out that american "leaders" are being bought or blackmailed to serve international interests. you need a third party down there. a patriot party to put america first.
He obviously has an extensive knowledge on strategic studies, but if he knew a bit more about economics he might concede that the reason there has been a capital flight from Taiwan to the mainland is becase China is a regional export processing centre, and those investors are making use of cheper labour in China as their own economies strengthen and wages become more expensive. Not because the mainland points missiles at Taiwan. No wonder he sees China as a threat if he limits his studies so!
What you mention is of course the tragic legacy of the fraud of "free trade", where slave and 3rd world wages are forced into direct competition with the developed world and middle class workers. Free trade will continue eroding wages until all western nations are at the same level of poverty as the 3rd world. That is "free trade's" effect on the middle class and America.
America's economy will only recover fully if we start buying American goods again.
I would agree that America's short term problems would be aleviated if American consumers started buying US goods, but that's not really going to happen on a large scale basis so long as cheaper foreign goods are on the market. But lets just suppose that they did! In the long run, this would mean that most American consumers would have less options in terms of what they could puchase, because all the goods would be more expensive.
people or overestimating china. did you know that the enonomy of china would have to be 5 times larger than the u.s just to give it's people equivalent living standards? it's true. in 2008 the chinese gdp was about a third of the u.s figure. There is a very very long way to go.Most chinese are poor and their own govenment is nothing but a corrupt mafia. I have been there and i have seen it. The chinese are just people, it;s their government that are the problem.
Beliserius1, communist china is capitalist, communist, facist, and TERRORIST regime, the mood swing from one to the other to achieve a china getting big, bigger, and bigger, look, the whole South China Sea bordering Viet Nam, Phillipine, Indonesia, Burmei, Malaysia, communist china called it ITS WATER, its economic zones, its islands, soon it will claim all countries having more than 1 million chinese population.
communist china showing its people as its war technology?
As a human being, who would want to be in a regime which use you, a human as a war technology?
Democracy and freedom for Chinese Citizens, no blocking Internet, freedom of choice of non-communist regime, freedom of expressing thought of dislike communist regime, the world will be safer without this totally controlled communist regime
"China is not a Threat"? Tibetans and Tibet are ill-legally, Brutally Occupied by Chinese communists today(since 1950.) The Chinese propaganda machine is very clever.Basically they smile in your face and then stab you in the back later. That's what happened to Tibet. We Tibetans know Chinese communist at first hand. Learn & Live but beware, be warned. What goes around, comes around.
They will soon be worthless, with our absurd defecit spending (Welfare, Social Security, Universal Healthcare on the horizon, and other entitlements).
We have sold this country out from under ourselves. We, as a nation, deserve what we get.
We have sown the seeds of our own destruction as a republic, and they will soon bloom into the suffering and subjugation of our children's children.
Start learning Mandarin now, our leadership has no plans, no balls. The West is now fucked.

If you watched TV in Guangzhou, you can see people openly criticised the Govt.
At the village level, they allowed the villagers to elect their chief. China is evolving gradually but don't expect the Chinese Govt to embrace Western Democracy in full. It is not a bad thing for a country if you have a good dictator like my country.
@typhoonq Sadly that dictatorship threatens our nation, and I'm not American. If they want to monopolize the Asian continent in any way... And I mean the CCP well, we'll fight them to the very end... I believe that is our nations stand in any case... The Americans interferes not for an entirely good reason but its better they care about another nations freedom in a general sense than that GODLESS RED BANNER which is the CCP...
Communism, like Fascism and other names for slavery are merely false labels put on a dictatorship to sell it to the enslaved. Take away the slogans, flags and little red books, and to the innocent person being faced by the uniformed thug with a gun and there is no difference with any other "brand" of tyranny.
China has some economic freedom, but there is no religious freedom, no political freedom, no freedom of expression. And human rights in China are getting worse not better.
It really doesn't matter what it is called, it's still a dictatorship.
Google "organ harvesting", "persecution of Falun Gong", "Laogai", "human rights in China" & "great firewall" for more on China's genocide.

People around the world showed their support for the people of China and Tibet in the recent Olympic torch protests. We care and want to help freedom win.
I don't say that I like China's governement, I just say that it's not real communism. And Communism is not for slavery, but for equality. Dictatorship don't mean communism. Mao don't really like the people, he just use communism to get power.
USA is not free too, did you said a TV show about the 9/11 conspiracy? The USA seem a free country, but it's not free.
How can democracy be in China, a country so big with billions of population. If they have democracy, I'm sure that China will be separated in pieces right now by Westerners fearing the growth of China and power shift.
Hahahahahahha...... No wonder Americans are so gullible. Do you even know what it means to be communist? I mean, it's an ideaology pretty clearly defined. All you have to do it to read a bit, and look at how China functions, and you can easily see whether China is communist or not. It's not that hard, really.
They have indeed drop most of the practice of communist ideology in China. For example they have returned the land to the former owners. Ordinary people is free to travel in and out of the country. Many Chinese now own cars and private properties. They can even criticise the govt. constructively. I have been to China many times and I have witnessed
