He obviously has an extensive knowledge on strategic studies, but if he knew a bit more about economics he might concede that the reason there has been a capital flight from Taiwan to the mainland is becase China is a regional export processing centre, and those investors are making use of cheper labour in China as their own economies strengthen and wages become more expensive. Not because the mainland points missiles at Taiwan. No wonder he sees China as a threat if he limits his studies so!

What you mention is of course the tragic legacy of the fraud of "free trade", where slave and 3rd world wages are forced into direct competition with the developed world and middle class workers. Free trade will continue eroding wages until all western nations are at the same level of poverty as the 3rd world. That is "free trade's" effect on the middle class and America.

America's economy will only recover fully if we start buying American goods again.

I would agree that America's short term problems would be aleviated if American consumers started buying US goods, but that's not really going to happen on a large scale basis so long as cheaper foreign goods are on the market. But lets just suppose that they did! In the long run, this would mean that most American consumers would have less options in terms of what they could puchase, because all the goods would be more expensive.

people or overestimating china. did you know that the enonomy of china would have to be 5 times larger than the u.s just to give it's people equivalent living standards? it's true. in 2008 the chinese gdp was about a third of the u.s figure. There is a very very long way to go.Most chinese are poor and their own govenment is nothing but a corrupt mafia. I have been there and i have seen it. All you have to do it to read a bit, and look at how China functions, and you can easily see whether China is communist or not. It's not that hard, really.

They have indeed drop most of the practice of communist ideology in China. For example they have returned the land to the former owners. Ordinary people is free to travel in and out of the country. Many Chinese now own cars and private properties. They can even criticise the govt. constructively. I have been to China many times and I have witnessed

major changes in their system since 1983.
