The first time I saw this video was on the original BET's Rap City on a late Thursday afternoon of November 24,1988 that Thanksgiving at a relative's house when The Bronx had no cable and Video Music Box never aired it.
Thank you for posting - this video is rarely shown on tv anymore. This was my favorite S'n'P video bar none! They are so real & danced which is forgotten in today's videos.
Nicki Minaj is successful and not mad at the sister, but it was this type of hip hop that allows them to cut them checks today. they didnt have the technology back then when they were recording that they have today. infact the equipment now was created based on the high level of creativity hip hop brought forth.listen to how they switch up lyrically flawless. just a pure fuckin classic
I have this somewhere on VHS, I miss these days...I remember I used to think that step at 2:17 was the sh**.... then I saw an Oaktown's 357 video and was like... Nevermind.
I still have this video on VHS. I only saw this on the original Rap City which came on BET weekdays at 4:30pm-6:00pm back in '88 on that Thanksgiving Day during my senior year at James Monroe High School in The Bronx.
Sorry, but if U missed 1986-93 (The Golden Era), then goddamnit U just missed it, and are probably 1 of these people wondering WHY the art/music today is CONSTANTLY being dissed & not taken seriously anymore.
When U go from this to the bullshit we see today, does it really need explaining?
Man..... takes a nigga back to college days... Used to play this song in the crip line...basketball players will know what I am talking about, before the game.....great post and thanks...
I know, right? Queen Latifah would bust Nicki's azz in a batlle even to this day. Straight up! She'd be reduce to the size of a small bread crumb by the time Latifah got through with her.
Thank you SO much for posting this one...it was an AWESOMe follow up to Shake That Thang....and personally my favorite form that album. Ahhh memories.
This classic was so damn tight! Listening to the beat and lyrics makes me wish they would ban the majority of this garbage that's playing on the radio today, makes me sick to my stomach. As long as I can listen to my old school hip hop, it's like a glass of cold water.
NICE SONG,BTW I MET SALT,PEPPER&SPINDERALLA,I ALSO MET SPIN'S SISTER,SPIN SISTER INVITED ME TO THE GRAND OPENING OF HER SISTER'S HAIR SALON,ALOT OF CELEBS SHOWED UP TO SUPPORT,IT WAS ALSO ON THE NEWS,THE GIRLS ARE FROM QUEENS NY,PEPPER ATTENDED SPRINGFIELDS H.S. IN QUEENS NY,HER YR BOOK PIC IS IN 1984,I ALSO USE TO BE THEIR WAITRESS AT RED LOBSTER IN VALLEY STREAM NY,I GAVE SPINDERELLA MY HEADSHOT&RESUME TO DO BACKUP DANCING,BUT I GOT NO RESPONSE,MY PIC IS IN THE GERTZ PLAZA MALL AT AIRBRUSHSHOP
doesnt this video remind u of michael jackson's videos like beat it and bad. the whole alley scene with the group walkin...and breaking out in dance its like they r using dancing as a weapon lol like mj...u can tell its inspired by him or maybe its jus me
@tweetylns the scene kind of reminds of MJ's "beat it" but no i don't think it was inspired by him. This and other vids such as "beat it" are all inspired by classic gang scenes like from old movies (like "westside story", etc. etc.)
i'll say it again...this was brilliant. nicki minaj, and .. uh I cant name anymore mc's take note. this is how it is supposed to be done, period. Lyrical beauty, skill and respect.
CLASSICCKKKKK....Those were the days! Lol . When I look at Pep's hair...all I can do is laugh now that I know how the style was created! Lol. Everybody wanted or rocked that style back then!
@YoungOldSchoolRapper I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE when I see a teenager giving props to old school and recognizing new school is not up to par. You have great taste. Keep it up. There's a lot of amazing old school songs. You'll never run out of good music to listen to. EVER!
Okay... I can admit some pretty embarassing things because I'm annoymous over the internet, LOL! This track came out in 1988... I was born in 1983, so I was a little kid then. I remember watching this video back then and I used to wonder why they were so mean to that dude. I also used to wonder how he was going to get up (no pun intended) from being tied up and left alone, LOL!
They just don't make music and videos like this anymore. As unforgettable as 1988 was for us old school hip hop heads, this song was among the best for that year, This is by far my all time favorite from Salt n Pepa.
O.M.F.G. I STILL have my videotape with this video and the others (Tramp, Push It, Shake Your Thang). I have not seen this video in roughly 20 years. And god damn it I still remember the words and some of the dance moves. I actually wanted to be Spinderella when I was a kid. Never did get the awesome oufit that she's wearing in this that I wanted so desperately.
Man do I miss these days. I really forgot how dope Salt N Pepa was. The BEST in Hip Hop has already come. That new garbage can't hold a candle to any of these classics.
Hey, the beginning of this video is the end of the "Shake Your Thing" video. Man, every time I revisit Salt'N'Pepa they are even fresher than I remember.
thanks so much...this used to be me and jr high friends anthem..we knew all the words and dance steps (big ups to michael jackson...wow he influenced everything)...takes me back to good times and fun...the kids these days, i feel so sorry for them...
Check out the hair cut, its shaved on the side, they started that cause they dyed their hair blonde and it fell out so they decided to shave off where it fell off and they started a fashion trend that resurfaced last year!!! LUV IT!
Loved how Herbie had all these great acts from S n P to Kid n Play ... ironically I didn't know him and Salt were an item till after the fact but knew that they still worked together for another album. Think it was a bad idea for them as business partners to have seperated (not referring to their personal relationship) but that of working together. Because they made great music/vid's as a team
The music is sampled from Parliament (Producer is George Clinton) The song is ALL YOUR GOODIES ARE GONE - Second version 1974 - The original is from 1968 - I love this Salt-N-Pepa song!
Yeah I know, but it was starting to go there. This was1988 a classic year for hip -hop. Also the same year NWA came out with Straight out of Compton. Remember that?

So odd looking back at their videos and seeing how Spin looked like an equal with the girls from dancing with them and all. But now to learn how the ladies considered Spin just as a sideline player to S n P
i love the song and video but am i The only one who noticed her other earring fell off

My all-time fav S-N-P video! Feels like MJ's "Beat It", only it's classic hip hop. LOVE IT!
