The question is, did Jalen Rose have the grades to go to Duke? The academic requirements to attend Duke are higher and don't place emphasis over academics for atheletics. Look at Duke's football program, they don't change their standards to improve the football program. It is what it is, Grant Hill had the academics. The fact of the matter is the hatred to Duke for the apparent reason that they never beat Duke. They lost to them in the championship the frosh year. Jalen is speaking out of anger, disention, disgust for a program that has not mentioned any type of regulation in recruiting. Duke does not have to recruit any African American player to play for them. Once again, that loose, undisciplined style of play will not fly at Duke. They did not win because they played up and down, but were not consistent.

You can't say they didn't make use of their educations and better themselves. These men had character as well. The fact of the matter is the hatred to Duke for the apparent reason that they never beat Duke. They lost to them in the championship the frosh year. Jalen is speaking out of anger, disention, disgust for a program that has not mentioned any type of regulation in recruiting. Duke does not have to recruit any African American player to play for them. Once again, that loose, undisciplined style of play will not fly at Duke. They did not win because they played up and down, but were not consistent.

All I wanted to see was some good basketball players whose every minute on the court isn't controlled by the coaches. I didn't like all the hype. I saw Webber play in high school and his team got beat by Ypsilanti Having said all that, watching Juwan Howard as a junior was like a man playing with boys. They sound like a bunch of idiots. The part about Duke only recruiting
uncle tom players is bull. Duke is one of the few schools that doesn't
bring in black athletes just to exploit them for money. Lot of these other
schools won't accept black non-athletes with low SAT scores but will accept
black athletes that barely passed just to make money off them. To me that
is much worse. And why a story on these clowns and not the old UNC team with Jordan and Worthy or the old Georgetown team?

@zambithegreat Duke drafts uncle toms and calls them "athletes of outstanding character". It's not about grades listen to how these gentlemen articulate their feelings. You can't say they didn't make use of their educations and better themselves. These men had character as well. Duke did not want to embrace the hip-hop culture which was fairly new in that part of the 90's so they stuck with "Uncle Tom's".

Coach K has always recruited the kinds of guys he thinks his best equipped to work with. He is a good man that way. However, that has had consequences. Poor, inner city and black isn't what K recruits. Jalen Rose et al knew that they were poor, inner city and black and that they weren't viewed as "Duke material."
Duke fans need to stop whining about this. People will see Duke as a country club for only those that are "good enough" or have the right "background." It is an earned rep.

It's 8 versus 5 when you play Duke. Duke owe's all of their championships and wins to cheating refs. It is ridicilous how many calls they get. The opposing team's entire roster is in foul trouble before the half. When Duke players go to the NBA and have no more corrupt refs to aid them they are utter garbage.
