its not a bad west country accent at all, i am from there and he is wonderful.... i love our Bernard.. he is a national treasure he really is. I grew up with him, wombles, jackanory, railway children to name but a few and of course Doctor who (the movie) and the series. love ya Bernard!! and now so do me kids
I was 16 and studying for my O'Levels when this was released. It had lots of plays on the old Light Programme but was subsequently overshadowed by "Right said Fred", "The Hole in the Ground" and "Gossip Calypso" Personally I think its his best. Unfortunately now comedy records seem to have died a death. Now you don't get nowhere if you don't have a sense of humour/if you're too hasty as per "Right said Fred" and I think it's a reflection on society today. No sense of humour amogst the majority.
@newcs44 ... I agree with you 100% ... I, nowever do have a well developed set of chuckle muscles, and I enjoy excersising 'em too... The song makes me grin like a loon and sing along too... Brilliant Bernard ... Best regards from Wales :0)x
@VinylCrazee... Bernard Cribbins played 'Station Master PERKS'... But anything with the great Bernard in is fantastic... This made me chuckle along... :0)x
@hanrui100 you could have said "please" instead of making it an order! it's a SONG - it doesn't need pictures - if your mind can't supply visual images to go with the words, go and see a doctor. sigh, people want to be spoon-fed these days ... there's a thing called "imagination", which you seem to lack as much as you do manners
Back in the early sixties, I heard this a few times on the BBC light programme (1500metres on the long wave) and. for nigh on fifty years, I've since hummed the tune or sung what little words I knew to myself without ever knowing the title or artiste.
Thanks for the posting - it's even funnier to me now than from all those years ago.
nothing wrong with this video, just cos you need some picture to make it interesting, sit back, listen, after all, it is a song. you dont need pictures to picture everything thats happening in the song. you mind does that for you.
