Just an idea... if a couple wants to get married, and a spouse is from a non-hague convention agreement country....make them give up their citizenship to that country or no marriage....? Hey in alot of countries if you obtain the citizenship of one country, then you must give up your original one(US usually)...
Hi there. Even in cases where a Japanese has already taken on the citizenship of another country - the country of japan will always make exceptions and allow one of the flock back in. All the Japanese would have to say is - "Ohh the gaijin are scary and abusive.." and their hypocritical country would open the doors and allow them back.
In the past 10 yrs 20,000 children have been abducted from America and brought to Japan by their Japanese mothers.
I have talked to a lot of Japanese and read many Japanese articles regarding this matter, the response I got is most Japanese think it's funny, support the mothers 100% or make excuses for her behavior and are generally happy to stick it to America (basically any country apart from Japan).
I'd hate to imagine the total number of children worldwide abducted and brought to Japan.
But you've gotta understand you can't hold Japan to any sort of standard because its not their "culture". Its not "child abduction" its just Japanese doing it their way. *Drones* We all have to respect and understand the Japanese better...We all have to respect and understand the Japanese better...
Great to see you raising awareness. Fathers of children in Japan have little if any rights. The children suffer because they do need love from both parents. It is so cruel and destructive to cut off contact and not allow basic rights. I have two children one 4 and 14 .I love them dearly and believe I am a loving father. Now their minds are poisoned and it is so sad.I don't know where they live now though I send presents and cards always.I hope some day for a normal relations but it is not easy.
Isn't it so hypocritical behaviours for japs claiming about megumi's disappearance?
Japan itself denied apologying 200,000 sexual slaveries raped brutally by japanese military soldiers not considering those women's human rights.
Well there were over 200,000 women from China,Korea,Taiwan,Philipines, Dutch,American,Australia,Nethe rland,Burma...etc..etc, who were forced as sex slaveries by Japnese military in ww2.
Don't japanese feel hurt at all to those women?LOL
The problem may lay in the Japanese system and the refusal to sign some international agreements.
In some ways they are still stuck in medieval times.
Morality and conduct are highly selective in Japan... they have a hard time even understanding they ever do something hypocritical... it is disgusting at times...
Hysteria over abduction of a few dozen people, let alone this single girl, is ridiculous when the Japanese abducted 4.5 million Koreans and themselves and have yet to even admit to their atrocities. This wouldn't be ridiculous if NK abducted a few thousand Megumis and forced them into sexual slavery. But bitching about one girl when Japan still refuses to own upto its own atrocities is downright ridiculous and morally disgusting.

Please don't judge until you have walked in our shoes. Trafferazabu , I just thought I'd let you know ,for information sake ,that divorce is indeed illegal in certain countries. For example, there is no divorce in the Philippines as it is illegal there.
What is a government for if not to protect the weakest members of society? And who could be in more need of protection and more important to any country's future than their children. For myself, I live in Japan, have throughout & before my marriage, am still married and have resisted divorce proceedings for years for the sake of our children, because they have a right to know both parents. 12 years of marriage, of which 5 years have been spent fighting against losing my children.
I don't know where to locate statistics for other countries, but it is true that over a hundred children are abducted from the US to Japan illegally each year, this being a US State Department statistic. Please check the US State Department website for advisory warnings on this issue.

This must be very hard for you and I cannot imagine how tough it must be. I had a question; does the Japanese government actually not allow you to even visit your own children? Hopefully some things change for the better.

Really hard to believe for a Japan fan like me. I once had a love story with a Jap girl, but I'm still shocked by some processes of J. culture. There is so much you have to know about laws... Foreigners are very few in camparison to other countries, but if this problem comes up it means it is often the case that this happens in a Jap-foreign marriage! This is scary!
(cot'd) I know you aren't supporting DPRK and from your comments you are wary of the abduction issue between the two states, I just feel it is unnecessary to relate the two and I feel it tramples on the DPRK abduction efforts. Are you planning to make a video in Japanese? I think what maybe really effective is to have the actual voters of the government see this issue more than just pressure from citizens of other countries.
There is a Japanese Subtitled Version available on youtube, or google video. Thank you for your comments. Please watch that version. It can be accessed at my page utube . com / ekalmus. I think when you read it you will see that my protest and video have nothing really to do with DPRK - just Japanese hypocrisy. Two wrongs dont make a right.
I was touched when I read the stories about you and other's children taken away by your Japanese spouses. I feel my country (originally from Japan, studying in Canada) needs to change and recognize international custody disputes and court orders. My only small pet peeve is why you had to relate this to North Korea. Although I believe it would be effective in getting peoples attention, I feel rather it gives a sign in which you fail to recognize the severity of the DPRK issue.
Tank you for your comments. This has nothing to do with the DPRK at all. This has to do with Japanese hypocrisy in regards to abduction. For the Japanese it is wrong if their people are abducted, but is fine for them to abduct. The government needs to change. You cant ask people to feel sorry for you if you do the same thing you are asking them to feel sorry for.
takuwan- There is no issue with DPRK, it over and done with. DPRK shouldn't have done what it did. The only reason it is alive is because the JapGOVT wants it to be alive. It's and over done dead issue. Meanwhile ekalmus and very many others are dealing with a very live ongoing issue.
Japs are the most mean, insensitive, and inhuman race in the world. They never think of non Japanese as human beings. That is why they commit atrocities, abduct children, and lie about their history.
This movie has nothing to do with making North Korea look better. It has to do with Japan, and Japan's hypocrisy in regards to child abduction. If you are saying that I make North Korea look better than Japan then I must respectfully ask you a question. How can one country that allows abduction ever be better than another country that allows abduction. They are always in mind equally as bad.
I definitely understand the feelings going on here, though I feel kind of weird about this protest taking place outside of this movie. Though I do feel for the fathers out there who are being screwed over by systems everywhere, including in America. It seems like things are almost always stacked against the fathers today. Its too bad that Japan is still, in many ways, backwards compared to the rest of the world. I wish you good luck in your cause.
Do you not think that perhaps these parents were in love? You say that "half white, half japanese babies make money for them..." I ask you - who is "them?" and by making a comment like this who is the idiot?
This is dumb this is not the same issue. The north korean goverment itself abducted the japanese citizens. joint custody of children etc has nothing to do with this.
The Japanese courts themselves refuse to obey custody orders issued in the US or anywhere outside Japan. The Japanese government itself refuses to extradite Japanese wanted on arrest warrants for parental abduction. Investigate a little and you will see that this is the Japanese government and courts breaking international laws that respectable and responsible countries choose to observe.
This is so biased. N.Korean spies have abducted hundreds of young people(not just from Japan), keeping them in terrible conditions, and utilizing the abductees as tools to help advance their terrorism. These abductees are kept against their will, forced to spend the rest of their lives in N.Korea, never seeing their families or loved ones again.
The people who are relating the two issues are belittling the atrocities of North Korea, and the plight of the abductees and their loved ones.
Japanese abduct hundreds of young people from all over the world EVERY YEAR! (Not just from the US.) The children are tools of revenge and are are being forced to stay in Japan against their will. They are being brainwashed. All contact with family outsie Japan refused. Not even phone calls. One, Chris Gulbraa recently escaped! You are belittling the crimes of Japanese parents wanted for arrest worldwide for parental abduction.
For North Korea, go see the documentary. Japan has laws making it not a crime, courts usurp jurisdiction in foreign cases, politicians won't sign treaties against abduction, embassies issue same day travel documents and police departments help prevent service of foreign court documents. This makes Japan a Haven for International Parental Abduction, which encourages citizens to abduct by making them feel safe from any legal consequences. Read crnjapan website for more. (Add com to URL.)
--continued-- I understand that the dry facts of the case might not bring popular attention the issue as quickly as a sensational analogy, but in the long run they'll bring you more respect.
The only question worth answering in this context is "What legal method will bring the children home fastest and change laws in Japan so that this stops happening?"
--continued-- The Japanese givernment's failure to intervene in international custody disputes is not hypocritical in relation to their denunciation of the DPRKs abduction of its citizens. If government policy in Japan on the former is notably different or "unfair" by international/comparateive standards (as there was some allusion to earlier), then I think you might be better served in focusing on that instead, and doing it in greater detail.
Wow. Ignoring that the discussion had degenerated into adhominem nonsense towards the end, I think Kooozo makes a fair point in calling the analogy into question... the Yokota case as well as all the North Korean abductions are clearly a different phenomenon all together.
Actually, it sounds like we are saying the same thing. The Japanese government does not care for the welfare of children. They only act when forced to, and even then, only because the Rightists and Nationalists in the Japanese government can use it to further their own political agendas.
Can I use this video in my where I am going to look different views of history?
Do you have a Japanese translation of the relevant Hague convention?
I guess Japan has different views of what constitutes custody, parental rights, the good of the child and habeus corpus but that does not stop this being very sad.
Feel free to use the video you can download it on the google video site, and you can find a copy of the hague in japanese on the CRNJAPAN website. Thank you for your comments.
thank u for this video, im living near tokyo and this kind of crap that japan pulls is outrageous, looking forward to moving back to canada in a couple of yrs...thank god my japanese wife and i are waiting until we move back to canada to have kids ;)
A country cannot abduct someone. People in the government do it. People in the Japanese government make the laws that encourage Japanese to abduct. They wont extradict Japanese criminals. People in the Japanese courts ignore custudy orders from the United States, France, UK and all over. Its bad people in North Korea and bad people in Japan.
In my opinion, this is a good cause as itself. But, relating it to Megumi is definitely not right... I mean, atleast the kids are with some one they know and are most likely safe. But Megumi... she was abuducted by a COUNTRY. a land she does not know, ppl that most likely don't really care about her, could have mistreated her badly, and using her for their messed up country.
A country is politicians, government policies, laws and courts of a country, run by people who make a conscious decision to initiate, allow or encourage abduction. These abducted children were removed from loving environments of friends and relatives, taken to a country they do not know, to be with people who never visited them who want to completely cut them off from their previous life. Some differences with North Korea, but some similarities too.
Our ex Japanese spouses have kidnappeded our children. The country of Japan supports the kidnapper even when there are international arrest warrants for the Japanese persons arrest. Please read about this tragedy at http://www.crnjapan.com. I am sure all of your questions will be answered there. Thank you for watching.
Studies show that the motive is usually revenge against the other parent. Or the Japanese parent may just not want to abide by US laws even tho in the reverse situation, an American parent must abide by Japanese laws and stay in Japan. So the reason is because Japanese government, laws & courts encourage abduction. DV, while often alleged AFTER returning to Japan seems to not usually come up in the US court case. Read more here and decide for yourself:
In most cases, the mother most likely kidnapped them (statistically), unless the destination is an Arabian country in which case the father is probably responsible.
According to the US State Department the number one destination for abductors is Mexico, and the number two destination is Japan. You are correct about the mother being the most likely to abduct. In 1996 the abductions were 53 percent mother and 47 percent father. Thank you for your comments.
A typical response from a japanese person who can't stand to see japan shed in a bad light. Too bad too many japanese like yourself immediately go for the personal attack route instead of discussion the abduction issue in a calm rational manner. The japanese government is responsible for thousands of aided abductions and it is obvious that you support this action. Shame on japan and shame on you.
Any parent who lost their child to kidnapping feels the same pain. American, German, Australian or other pain is no less than that of a Japanese parent. If you think otherwise, your claim is warped by racial discrimination.
Outside Japan, left behind parents, governments & courts issue arrest warrants for Japanese wives AND HUSBAND kidnappers. See www*crnjapan*com/warrants But Japanese government & courts say no kidnapping occurred just like North Korean government in the Megumi Yokota case.
Hi Kazooo... not true - I love Japan and the Japanese people. The problem has to do with your Government not stepping up to the table and adjusting Japanese law to meet the rest of the world. Japan is a FIRST WORLD country, right? Then why doesnt it have FIRST WORLD laws like the rest of the first world.
Hello ekalmus, I have no time to look at all cases and legal issues behind. I don't have enough knowledge to understand what is your 'FISRT WORLD'law standard. However, said abductors on your Web pages are said abductee's parents. Even if your allegation is right, I don't think it it sincere way to relate your issues to Megumi Yokota's.
I appreciate your comments again Kooozo but please realized that your beliefs are in the minority. Even the United Nations has published report called "Parental Abduction is Child Abuse." So please understand the rest of the world sees parental abduction as abuse, and not a custody dispute. Children have rights, they are not property.
Hi again Kooozo. Did you watch the movie? If so you would know that our stance has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota, or Korea. I find it awful that you would even consider that I stand by the DPRK. Please take some time and rewatch the movie. It will answer your questions.
Th UN is made up of most of the countries in the world. Japan goes to the UN when it needs help, right? Please take the time to look into the situation before passing judgement on what you dont understand. Also I am working on a subtitled version of Abduction is Abduction. Perhaps that willgive you a better understanding of the hypocrisy your government has.
Hello ekalmus, I'm not trying to pass any judgement on your 'parental Abduction' issue itself. If you claim yours has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota, Then why have you titled 'Japan's hypocrisy of Megumi Yokota'? I'm afraid many people believing in your story think "Well, This served Japan right". It clearly undermines Megumi Yokota's parent effort. If you claim to be humane, Please stop referring her. I am not here to criticize your activity on 'parental Abduction' itself.
A lot of non-Western countries probably share the view that the Western countries, particularly those with a veto (unlike Japan) are over-represented in the UN.
Even the notion of inalienable human rights is also controversial. Japan is probably more utilitarian, basing its decision upon what will result in the most well-being, not on rights.
Actually, the lawyers say that Japanese courts base decisions on what they are most likely to be able to enforce. Mostly, they cannot enforce any of their own civil orders, even monetary fines, much less handover of a child, so they enforce the status quo. Whoever abducts a child first wins. If you read the court decisions from Japan, you will see clearly that "well being" has very little to do with it.
We stand in solidarity with Megumi Yokota's parents. Just like North Korea, ALL governments around the world should cooperate to return anyone abducted to their country. But Japanese politicians seem to think that they do not have to uphold the same standards they ask of a third world dictatorship. Both Japan and North Korea are acting illegally. If anyone is undermining the efforts by the Yokotas, it is the Japanese government, laws and courts. Look inward my friend.
As I stated before - If you saw the movie you would see that I am not talking about Megumi Yokota or Korea. I am discussing the fact that Japan is hypocritical. Dictionary says hypocrisy = an expression of agreement that is not supported by real conviction. When it comes to the Megumi Yokota situation Japan is being hypocritical because they allow abduction, but say that North Korea is worng becuase they abducted.
Regarding to Megumi Yokota's issue or North Korea's abduction, Japanese government was reluctant to act for a long time. As a matter of fact, Most of politicians didn't take it seriously. Among those, there were many politicians who were sympathetic to North Korea and trying to promote her benign image. Especially socialist party branded it as the Japanese government propaganda like you branded her as 'hypocrite' now.
As Eric said, please actually watch the video before commenting. No one supports North Korea and we hope the relatives get their children, like Megumi, back, just like we hope the Japanese government will help us get our children back from the Japanese kidnappers. I am glad that we both agree that the hypocrits are the politicians in the Japanese government.
There were even some big political figures who obstructed police action on the issue. It took nearly 25 yrs to have Japanese government act on it seriously. This has not been driven by conviction of Japanese government but that of Megumi Yokota's parents and other family in similar situation. This is why I am strongly against your rhetoric comparing your issue to Megumi Yokota's.
There are many many more American children abducted to Japan than Japanese were abducted to North Korea, so we have more parents involved. If the Yokota's can be successful in 25 yrs, maybe we can in 2 or 3 years! Thank you for your encouragement. Also, on Nov 20, there was a second protest at the film in Washington DC. Japanese Ambassador Kato and many US Senators and Congressmen attended. We hope the politicians are taking things more seriously now as the American public learns more.
I am glad to see that you understand the problem starts with the Japanese Government. So, as Megumi Yokota's family used convivtion to help bring their cause to the public, so are we. Again you must not be watching, becasue there is no "rhetoric" regarding Megumi Yokota. Our Title - "Abduciton is Abduction: Japan's Hypocrisy of Megumi Yokota" has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota...only Japans hypocrisy in regards to her abduction. Thank you for your comments.
Thank you for watching. This is the second version of the movie Abduction is Abduction that has been posted. Our previous version had over 3,600 views in under a month and 4 stars after 55 ratings. In addition we had over 30 comments. Please feel free to rate and comment. Let's get our numbers back up again.
Japan = A country full of hypocrites that fabricates history and brainwashes their people. Weird country that you don't want to live in.

I feel my country (originally from Japan, studying in Canada) needs to change and recognize international custody disputes and court orders. My only small pet peeve is why you had to relate this to North Korea. Although I believe it would be effective in getting peoples attention, I feel rather it gives a sign in which you fail to recognize the severity of the DPRK issue.
takuwan199 4 years ago
Tank you for your comments. This has nothing to do with the DPRK at all. This has to do with Japanese hypocrisy in regards to abduction. For the Japanese it is wrong if their people are abducted, but is fine for them to abduct. The government needs to change. You cant ask people to feel sorry for you if you do the same thing you are asking them to feel sorry for.
ekalmus 4 years ago
takuwan- There is no issue with DPRK, it over and done with.

That is why they commit atrocities, abduct children, and lie about their history.
nissimbedekar 4 years ago
This movie has nothing to do with making North Korea look better. It has to do with Japan, and Japan's hypocrisy in regards to child abduction. If you are saying that I make North Korea look better than Japan then I must respectfully ask you a question. How can one country that allows abduction ever be better than another country that allows abduction. They are always in mind equally as bad.
Thank you for you comment.
ekalmus 4 years ago
I definitely understand the feelings going on here, though I feel kind of weird about this protest taking place outside of this movie. Though I do feel for the fathers out there who are being screwed over by systems everywhere, including in America. It seems like things are almost always stacked against the fathers today. Its too bad that Japan is still, in many ways, backwards compared to the rest of the world. I wish you good luck in your cause.

lesson: don't have babies with japanese women. half white half japanese babies make money for them. idiots.
kamisamagahanashite 4 years ago
Do you not think that perhaps these parents were in love? You say that "half white, half japanese babies make money for them..." I ask you - who is "them?" and by making a comment like this who is the idiot?
ekalmus 4 years ago
This is dumb this is not the same issue. The north korean goverment itself abducted the japanese citizens. joint custody of children etc has nothing to do with this.
Lumotaku 4 years ago
The Japanese courts themselves refuse to obey custody orders issued in the US or anywhere outside Japan. The Japanese government itself refuses to extradite Japanese wanted on arrest warrants for parental abduction. Investigate a little and you will see that this is the Japanese government and courts breaking international laws that respectable and responsible countries choose to observe.
crnjapan 4 years ago
This is so biased. N.Korean spies have abducted hundreds of young people(not just from Japan), keeping them in terrible conditions, and utilizing the abductees as tools to help advance their terrorism. These abductees are kept against their will, forced to spend the rest of their lives in N.Korea, never seeing their families or loved ones again.
The people who are relating the two issues are belittling the atrocities of North Korea, and the plight of the abductees and their loved ones.
mr460911 5 years ago
Japanese abduct hundreds of young people from all over the world EVERY YEAR! (Not just from the US.) The children are tools of revenge and are are being forced to stay in Japan against their will. They are being brainwashed. All contact with family outsie Japan refused. Not even phone calls. One, Chris Gulbraa recently escaped! You are belittling the crimes of Japanese parents wanted for arrest worldwide for parental abduction.

how does a country abduct children??? do they have guys in trucks or what!!?? its crazy! what happens!?? please explain
StephenKuma 5 years ago
For North Korea, go see the documentary. Japan has laws making it not a crime, courts usurp jurisdiction in foreign cases, politicians won't sign treaties against abduction, embassies issue same day travel documents and police departments help prevent service of foreign court documents. This makes Japan a Haven for International Parental Abduction, which encourages citizens to abduct by making them feel safe from any legal consequences. Read crnjapan website for more. (Add com to URL.)

--continued-- I understand that the dry facts of the case might not bring popular attention the issue as quickly as a sensational analogy, but in the long run they'll bring you more respect.
kigakiku1979 5 years ago
The only question worth answering in this context is "What legal method will bring the children home fastest and change laws in Japan so that this stops happening?"
crnjapan 5 years ago
--continued-- The Japanese givernment's failure to intervene in international custody disputes is not hypocritical in relation to their denunciation of the DPRKs abduction of its citizens. If government policy in Japan on the former is notably different or "unfair" by international/comparateive standards (as there was some allusion to earlier), then I think you might be better served in focusing on that instead, and doing it in greater detail.
kigakiku1979 5 years ago
Wow. Ignoring that the discussion had degenerated into adhominem nonsense towards the end, I think Kooozo makes a fair point in calling the analogy into question... the Yokota case as well as all the North Korean abductions are clearly a different phenomenon all together.
kigakiku1979 5 years ago
Actually, it sounds like we are saying the same thing. The Japanese government does not care for the welfare of children. They only act when forced to, and even then, only because the Rightists and Nationalists in the Japanese government can use it to further their own political agendas.

Can I use this video in my where I am going to look different views of history?
Do you have a Japanese translation of the relevant Hague convention?
I guess Japan has different views of what constitutes custody, parental rights, the good of the child and habeus corpus but that does not stop this being very sad.
timtak1 5 years ago

FrancineUK 5 years ago
In my opinion, this is a good cause as itself. But, relating it to Megumi is definitely not right... I mean, atleast the kids are with some one they know and are most likely safe. But Megumi... she was abuducted by a COUNTRY. a land she does not know, ppl that most likely don't really care about her, could have mistreated her badly, and using her for their messed up country.
hata12345 5 years ago
Dear Hata12345
You have a fair point.
Abduction by parent and abduction by the state ARE different, no matter what the UN claims.
However there are big similarities:
Eric and crn love and miss their children as much as Megumi Yokota's parents, and yet can not be with them.
The tragedy of this is no less painful.
timtak1 5 years ago
A country is politicians, government policies, laws and courts of a country, run by people who make a conscious decision to initiate, allow or encourage abduction. These abducted children were removed from loving environments of friends and relatives, taken to a country they do not know, to be with people who never visited them who want to completely cut them off from their previous life. Some differences with North Korea, but some similarities too.
crnjapan 5 years ago
Why have they been kidnapped? Or who kidnapped them?
yohjiksk 5 years ago
Our ex Japanese spouses have kidnappeded our children. The country of Japan supports the kidnapper even when there are international arrest warrants for the Japanese persons arrest. Please read about this tragedy at http://www.crnjapan.com. I am sure all of your questions will be answered there. Thank you for watching.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Studies show that the motive is usually revenge against the other parent. Or the Japanese parent may just not want to abide by US laws even tho in the reverse situation, an American parent must abide by Japanese laws and stay in Japan. So the reason is because Japanese government, laws & courts encourage abduction. DV, while often alleged AFTER returning to Japan seems to not usually come up in the US court case. Read more here and decide for yourself:

In most cases, the mother most likely kidnapped them (statistically), unless the destination is an Arabian country in which case the father is probably responsible.
Bytehoven 4 years ago
According to the US State Department the number one destination for abductors is Mexico, and the number two destination is Japan. You are correct about the mother being the most likely to abduct. In 1996 the abductions were 53 percent mother and 47 percent father. Thank you for your comments.
ekalmus 4 years ago
I can see you hate Japanese.
I looked at your Web site. A story goes like American want his children back from Japanese ex-wife.
, Your issue can not be discussed on the same table as Megumi Yokota's.
This is a quite warped claim.
kooozo 5 years ago
kooozo says; "I can see you hate Japanese."
Shame on japan and shame on you.
japantruther 5 years ago
Any parent who lost their child to kidnapping feels the same pain. American, German, Australian or other pain is no less than that of a Japanese parent. If you think otherwise, your claim is warped by racial discrimination.
Outside Japan, left behind parents, governments & courts issue arrest warrants for Japanese wives AND HUSBAND kidnappers. See www*crnjapan*com/warrants But Japanese government & courts say no kidnapping occurred just like North Korean government in the Megumi Yokota case.
crnjapan 5 years ago
Hi Kazooo... not true - I love Japan and the Japanese people. The problem has to do with your Government not stepping up to the table and adjusting Japanese law to meet the rest of the world. Japan is a FIRST WORLD country, right? Then why doesnt it have FIRST WORLD laws like the rest of the first world.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Hello ekalmus, I have no time to look at all cases and legal issues behind. I don't have enough knowledge to understand what is your 'FISRT WORLD'law standard. However, said abductors on your Web pages are said abductee's parents. Even if your allegation is right, I don't think it it sincere way to relate your issues to Megumi Yokota's.
kooozo 5 years ago
I appreciate your comments again Kooozo but please realized that your beliefs are in the minority. Even the United Nations has published report called "Parental Abduction is Child Abuse." So please understand the rest of the world sees parental abduction as abuse, and not a custody dispute. Children have rights, they are not property.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Hello ekalmus, I guess UN is NOT necessarily right considering who have stong voice over its decision.
Besides, I have never express my belief on 'parental Abduction' issue nor denial of it.
My point is, from the beginning, why you need to undermine Megumi Yokota's parents effort to politicize
your issue. Do you happen to stand by North Korea?
kooozo 5 years ago
Hi again Kooozo. Did you watch the movie? If so you would know that our stance has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota, or Korea. I find it awful that you would even consider that I stand by the DPRK. Please take some time and rewatch the movie. It will answer your questions.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Th UN is made up of most of the countries in the world. Japan goes to the UN when it needs help, right? Please take the time to look into the situation before passing judgement on what you dont understand. Also I am working on a subtitled version of Abduction is Abduction. Perhaps that willgive you a better understanding of the hypocrisy your government has.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Hello ekalmus, I'm not trying to pass any judgement on your 'parental Abduction' issue itself. If you claim yours has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota, Then why have you titled 'Japan's hypocrisy of Megumi Yokota'? I'm afraid many people believing in your story think "Well, This served Japan right". It clearly undermines Megumi Yokota's parent effort. If you claim to be humane, Please stop referring her. I am not here to criticize your activity on 'parental Abduction' itself.
kooozo 5 years ago
A lot of non-Western countries probably share the view that the Western countries, particularly those with a veto (unlike Japan) are over-represented in the UN.
Even the notion of inalienable human rights is also controversial. Japan is probably more utilitarian, basing its decision upon what will result in the most well-being, not on rights.
timtak1 5 years ago
Actually, the lawyers say that Japanese courts base decisions on what they are most likely to be able to enforce. Mostly, they cannot enforce any of their own civil orders, even monetary fines, much less handover of a child, so they enforce the status quo. Whoever abducts a child first wins. If you read the court decisions from Japan, you will see clearly that "well being" has very little to do with it.
crnjapan 5 years ago
We stand in solidarity with Megumi Yokota's parents. Just like North Korea, ALL governments around the world should cooperate to return anyone abducted to their country. But Japanese politicians seem to think that they do not have to uphold the same standards they ask of a third world dictatorship. Both Japan and North Korea are acting illegally. If anyone is undermining the efforts by the Yokotas, it is the Japanese government, laws and courts. Look inward my friend.
crnjapan 5 years ago
As I stated before - If you saw the movie you would see that I am not talking about Megumi Yokota or Korea. I am discussing the fact that Japan is hypocritical. Dictionary says hypocrisy = an expression of agreement that is not supported by real conviction. When it comes to the Megumi Yokota situation Japan is being hypocritical because they allow abduction, but say that North Korea is worng becuase they abducted.
ekalmus 5 years ago
Regarding to Megumi Yokota's issue or North Korea's abduction, Japanese government was reluctant to act for a long time. As a matter of fact, Most of politicians didn't take it seriously. Among those, there were many politicians who were sympathetic to North Korea and trying to promote her benign image. Especially socialist party branded it as the Japanese government propaganda like you branded her as 'hypocrite' now.
kooozo 5 years ago
As Eric said, please actually watch the video before commenting. No one supports North Korea and we hope the relatives get their children, like Megumi, back, just like we hope the Japanese government will help us get our children back from the Japanese kidnappers. I am glad that we both agree that the hypocrits are the politicians in the Japanese government.
crnjapan 5 years ago
There were even some big political figures who obstructed police action on the issue. It took nearly 25 yrs to have Japanese government act on it seriously. This has not been driven by conviction of Japanese government but that of Megumi Yokota's parents and other family in similar situation. This is why I am strongly against your rhetoric comparing your issue to Megumi Yokota's.
kooozo 5 years ago
There are many many more American children abducted to Japan than Japanese were abducted to North Korea, so we have more parents involved. If the Yokota's can be successful in 25 yrs, maybe we can in 2 or 3 years! Thank you for your encouragement. Also, on Nov 20, there was a second protest at the film in Washington DC. Japanese Ambassador Kato and many US Senators and Congressmen attended. We hope the politicians are taking things more seriously now as the American public learns more.
crnjapan 5 years ago
I am glad to see that you understand the problem starts with the Japanese Government. So, as Megumi Yokota's family used convivtion to help bring their cause to the public, so are we. Again you must not be watching, becasue there is no "rhetoric" regarding Megumi Yokota. Our Title - "Abduciton is Abduction: Japan's Hypocrisy of Megumi Yokota" has nothing to do with Megumi Yokota...only Japans hypocrisy in regards to her abduction. Thank you for your comments.
ekalmus 5 years ago
I don't understand your argument koozo.
1) In the past Japan did not take the Yokota's seriously, and did not uphold the rights of Megumi Yokota.
2) Eric and crn take Yokota very seriously.
3) They also say that they have a right to see their children, abducted by Japanese.
4) Eric and crn are saying that Japan needs to be CLEAR on this - "ABDUCTING IS BAD."
5) This would help Eric, crn, and the Yokotas.
