@mugwaii2008 dude, just cuz its not complexed or hard to play doesnt mean its poor quality.music doesnt need to be all overly intricate in order to sound good.what, are u mad that this simple riff might sound better than whatever u can come with?
you must not have any idea who this man is. Either that or you are joking. Yes is is an easy riff, but that isn't the point. Not everything has to be break neck speed, double thumb, raking harmonics and machine gun triplets.
@iop223 Yeah it can be slightly confusing at time, the trick is to listen to what shape the sound has. It's hard to explain in text, but a distortion has more of a grrr sound and is often cleaner in the phase and harmonics, compared to a fuzz that.. well the name says it, it muffs the sound, blurring it.
ok i have a bass and i havent been playing it long how can i make my bass sound like this? i have a reasonably good amp and a semi good guitar but this sounds rough and harsh is he using a pedal?
though i recommend saving up and buying a tube amp (nothing beats tube overdrive IMO) im sure you wont be able to get that kind of money any time soon.
try out some bass overdrive pedals, BOSS, Sansamp VT Bass, etc.
An instrument is meant to play whatever it CAN play. Just base has always been in the background in pop culture. Check out michael manring Selene... it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen and probably you'll see too.
You're an idiot Inferno... If you know what playing a "chord" is, and to know what one looks like being played, then you should be musically intelligent enough to know that bass is an instrument with which you can play almost as much (some would say more) things as a guitar.
people have a hard time grasping that concept though. whenever i play bass and start playing chords, people look at me like i just discovered fire or something.
a lot of people believe think that bass is just some background instrument that only plays single notes.
@belgianreaver ... Yes and No. The electric bass is an electric guitarist's bastardisation of the upright bass, which is a very different beast indeed to the guitar (it's even the odd one out to the other orchestral string instruments) and if you look at how one plays an upright, you see where a lot of things unique to the bass guitar came from. Thus the bass guitar sort of sits between two worlds, but I think most people will know from experience not to give the bass to a guitarist.
uhuuuull agressive and amazing! ( what happened with your bass knobs?) and what will you do in Rio ,show ,gigs, some public thing? i live near and if it is possible tell me about.
I've seen your name on YouTube quite some times, and I'm going to start play bass soon. I do not feel like taking any lessons at a music school or alike, but I've seen a few of your videos and I thought - maybe you can give me some advice?
hey marlowe as a fellow teacher of sorts what would u suggest i teach to a beginner on bass whos in the 6th grade? Im 15 and my singers dad saw me play bass and asked if i could teach his son how to play(just an extra way for me to get some money). He wants to do slap right away so in his first lesson i taught him about octaves and there use in funky slapping and next lesson its going to be mutes and triplets most likey but im a little bit at a loss at that point.
Its hard to teach children, they need to be entertained. For starters its sounds good with octaves, he needs to learn the notenames as well and to make it easy (for you) - find an easy (well technically)song he can play to - ie give it away by RHCP
ya i he wants to do RHCP songs as well as RATM which is fairly easy for me to pick out by ear but the note names is a good idea i also gave him a major scale(i forgot what its called) that i did when i first started and i have him playing to that with a metronome
Don get too ambitious with scales, and find a drumbeat or backing track - to make it fun, it must NOT resemble chore in any way (unless the father's pacing and paying lotsa dineros)
i think ill get that drum beat but the scale isnt something to do the whole time while hes learning just to build up his finger speed neways ty for the advice nontheless it will be a majr help for me
ah? and does the sadowsy preamp do any good to that bass ? how would you define the difference before & after ? in my experience, there's nothing like the wood, the neck, the bridge, the saddles and the strings that really do change the tone. Electronics can only adjust frequencies and compress but they're not changing the true voice of the instrument - what d'you think ?
Its true that the sound is in the wood/metal, but its major improvement over the original crummy preamp, more clarity AND a tone control the original did not have
...oh, and I forgot the pickups of course, they could change some of the tone: what have you tried so far ? Seymour Duncans, Fender vintages, di Marzios, ...?...
excellent as always(are the knobs gone on your miller bass?) weird question just something i noticed. i just started playing 2 months ago any practice routines you can recommend? thanks
Learn your favorite basslines, and get some software or a Korg Pandora to slow tricky things down. Rather practice 1 hour a day then 3 hours every third day.
