She had a way with "nostalgia" that no other singer except perhaps , and for geographic reasons so to speak, Jussin Bjoerling. Sills always moves me to tears in these pieces which require deep feelings, tender feelings. Unique.
I met Mr. Wadsworth at his home in South Carolina only yesterday and he pointed me in the direction of this video after telling me the story behind this concert. What a wonderful occasion this was. Bless you, Ms. Sills.
Today would have been Beverly's 80th Birthday. We lost a diva with the intelligence of 100 people and a talent that will never be equalled, ever! Rest in peace Beloved Beverly.
She had nothing, if-not a sense of humor! If you ever happen to come-across any of her conversations with Johnny Carson, you're in for a real treat! Beverly was as-good of a personable person, as she was a singer! Myself, I just LOVE it when she sang C&W: an experience not to be missed! A contrast-in-styles, to be sure, but she was even good at THAT. Beverly Sills meets Kitty Wells, sure, why-not?
With this wonderful video, Beverly will live on with us as the truly wonderful singer and person we knew and loved. Thanks for this. There could be no better tribute to Bubbles.
I AM SO SAD .. too lose my mother 20yrs ago and losing this amazing person ..I am so thankful for video... My mother loved this women !!! She was CLASS a true dying breed!!!
What a great treat to see this moment on Youtube...the opera world lost a great singer and personality last summer '07 when Sills died...I enjoy everything she sang
It is a rare gift to bring so much joy to so many. What an incredible person she is. And to think that she swore off of singing totally after she retired. What an artist! Brava our beloved Bubbles, Brava.
I am crying, but thank you so much for putting this up on YouTube. So, so beautiful. The way she places her hands on the accompanist is so tender and loving--they must have had a wonderful friendship.
R.I.P. lovely woman, she was more than an opera singer. She could dance, act, and above all sing with a lovely voice. Very few times you meet a woman who is well-rounded in these three characters, her charisma was evident just by looking at her, she didn't even have to sing for you to notice it. We'll remember you Ms. Bubbles.
This SONG will be forever in my heart. Just listening to it brings tears to my eyes. I could listen to this a hundred times and never grow tired of it. I only wish there was sheet music for the piano accompaniment.
She was just sensational when singing at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires long ago: Cleopatra, Manon, Lucia! You´ll be always rememberd. God save the Queen "Bubbles"!
Thank you so much, Another Goddess. It really means a lot to me.
My mom will really enjoy this song. She and My sister saw Ms. Beverly in Boston in years past, and they were lucky enough to be seated ON THE STAGE, behind Beverly, as there were not enough seats in the auditorium. How about that?
Help...I really need to know what the words are after
....."tis the moment for goodbye.." UNTIL
something "part now...." but no matter how many times I listen, I still can't catch it. I want my 89 year old mom to hear this. SHe's always been my best friend, and she was the real influence on me when I first started enjoying opera.
If you go onto the Beverlysillsonloine website you will find all the words of this song as well as thewords of the original one which she changed for her farewell. Hope this is of use to you!
I had the tremendous privilege of meeting Ms. Sills thru a dear, mutual friend. The legendary Ruth Warrick (Citizen Kane and much else) introduced us. I found Ms. Sills to be utterly charming, warm and full of laughter. Bless her.
God, when you think of the opera greats we have lost this year...Ms. Sills,Regine Crespin,Richard Bradshaw,Jerry Hadley, Maestro Pavarotti, and the others I have forgotten. This is a lovely piece to remember them all- and here especially Beverly Sills-wonderful in so many ways.
I am not ready to hear this clip again knowing that we are passed the time for her "to leave" us. The chorus of angels in Heaven must be sounding a lot better since she joined them!
i cant believe shes been gone for a month. it seems like the opera world should be collapsing right now. i know that sounds strange, but beverly sills WAS opera for a long time. RIP beverly sills, we all love you
I met wonderful Beverly in Chile, S.A. She was the diva during the opera season in 1967. I belonged to the sopranos. Not only did she sing beautifully but also was a lovely woman.
Not allowed to post a regular URL, but if you haven't been there yet, go to beverlysills dot com. Those are the guys who've been posting all her videos. Rare recordings there.
One of the most moving operatic moments I've ever seen! It's incredible that Sills could turn her farewell such a naturally haunting and gentle event without the need to shed tears and more tears. Through her singing and her words we can feel her deep nostalgy and her great generosity, and no diva-ish attitudes (of course she was a diva, but a real one, in the original sense of the word). ;-)
She is gone, another bit of history. One of the few great divas of the last century. Future generations I feel will not have been as lucky as we have to have had these great singers in their lives. Thank you Beverly and thank you YouTube, And a special thanks to the Beverly Sills web site.
Not even 5 minutes ago I understood that this great woman had passed unto glory. It is with the utmost respect, gratitude and appreciationg that I thank Beverly Sills not only for what she was to opera but for what she was to music and the world as a whole! May your R.I.P. Beverly!
Viva la Bubbles for ever. She does live forever, not only in song but her work for the arts is a forever legacy. Her humor, her kindness, her lightness and courage. I saw her live as a child and teenager many times and though i never met her, like so many others here, feel I knew her--or at least the light and crystaline voice of her song. Thank you, Beverly.
When I was a teenager I did have a pin up girl her name was Beverly Sills and when all my friends were listening to The Beatles out of my room came the sound of incedible coloraturas from 'Bubbles' voice. You were responsible for my great love and admiration to the Bel Canto and my passion for the world of Opera .
My biggest regret I never saw you live. I shall miss you very much,it is like a bit of my past is now no longer with me.
This final song she performed publicly literally made me weep just now. Thank you, Ms. Sills, for the inspiration you gave me as a singer and musician, from your recordings and live performances, as I was trying to learn my craft. I'll never forget the five minutes I spent speaking to you in Dallas near the end of your singing career, when I was a graduate student. Requiescat in pace...
July 2nd 2007 was your real last performance dear Beverly. May you rest in peace. You declares that you were a merry woman but not a happy one. We wish you, finally and deservedly, all Happiness now that you are up in Heaven ! Thank youfrom the very depths opf my soul for all the jhoy you gave me in performances andf recordings ! You were a great artist !
Incredible singing from an incredible woman. Beverly, we love you! You brought so much joy to the lives of so many! Rest in peace and may the next life find greater joy for you!
I remember always looking toward Beverly Sills as a shining example of poise, etiquette, and class. So many of her great generation are leaving us now forever. Will we ever know that kind of beautiful human dignity again? What a time it was. What a time it was. Farewell, our lovely lady. Farewell.
Sills is one of the greatest sopranos of the last century.Fortunately she enjoyed a long and marvellous life.jjeenn9922 they are not leaving us forever because we will die too.
The first time I ever heard opera was on T.V. It was a production of "Roberto Devereux" with Beverly Sills. I have loved opera since and I can say that I owe my love to her. She always conveyed the warmth and good humor that you wish for in a friend, and she was a friend to music lovers like myself as well as singers and musicians. She may have been "tidy" as she states in this clip, but her passion and joy was always expressed in her singing. May we sing her praises forever...
Thank you, Bubbles, for all you have given! Your beautiful voice will never be stilled. Rest well, then have a wonderful time with the rest of the angels.
HCPit said it the best for me. I will miss her wonderful personality, thank goodness I have many of her recordings. She was my vocal idol and my vocal ideal.
Goodbye Beverly! Tonight you sing with the angels in Heaven! You gave us so much joy! Thank you! God bless you! (Beverly Sills died tonight at 9:00 pm EDT)
Beverly Sills will always hold a special place in my heart, as I learned to love opera listening to her recordings of Traviata. What a beautiful, moving farewell. Brava!
Sitting here in a hotel room in San Francisco on a cloudy sunny morning...listening to and watching this clip of Sills and my eyes mist over with tears. I met Sills in Phoneix when my own mother was in the Opera Chorus and they did Daughter of the Regiment. What a lovely person - so very genuine! She's one of the greats. They don't come like her anymore.
I am delighted to view this video. Beverly Sills is truly a gift to young singers. The fist video that I saw of hers was her Rosina and after that I was hooked to opera!
I also enjoyed her singing that wonderful son while posing her hand on Wadsworth shoulder, in a touching, deeply touching way. Sills could be so, so emotive and touching ! Few singers had that intense and deeply felt emotions on their sleeves !I wish you put the Burnett / Sills ' confrontation ' from that same farewell. Very funny !
I am still crying after this emotive farewell, tears flowing from me in this ciber cafe. When Sills sang this sort of ' piangente ' musics she is so moving. When I saw her first in my teens at Teatro Colón I was as thrilled by that new coloratura as for her PIANGERO LA SORTE MIA, which she poured from her heart. Thank you Beverly, you are a great artist !
Thank you dear Sillsfan ! Sills is one of the greatest twentieth century opera singers, no doubt about it ! The " Adieu notre petite table " at teatro Colón, in my Argentina, also made me weep. Artists like Sills don't grow in trees. Fantastic actress-singer !
Great to hear from you.I am green with envy that you have at least seen her! How wonderful to have those memories. I come from a hole in the wall called South Africa and now live in England and hope to one day go to the states and who knows maybe Bev and I could meet for coffee now that she has FINALLY retired! One can only hope!!!!
I am 47 and this is my first introduction to Beverly Sills' work. And it's her last. I am very moved by it. I see why she is called Bubbles.. such a joyous personality radiates from her.
would there be ANY possibility that your extremely kind heart could stretch to showing us a few more clips from our dear Bev's farewell?! Thus is SOOOOO moving , I thoroughly enjoy watching it!!
how wonderful it is for a Sills lover that I am to finally see her last moments on stage! She handles her song with such style and you cannot possiblbly not be moved by emotions. ILOVE this song and of course am still heartbroken that Ill never hear Beverly sing again. Thank you for the opportunity to view this , its appreciated very much!
Loved and respected by both colleagues and audiences alikd, she and her gifts were blessings to all of us. Thank you and bravissima!

I am delighted to view this video. Beverly Sills is truly a gift to young singers. The fist video that I saw of hers was her Rosina and after that I was hooked to opera!

Oh my goodness, I'm weeping now, this is so touching. They just don't make singers like that any more...

I knew that it had to be a reason for me to love her! Now I have found it, he he he. Bravissima, Beverly Sills.

Thank you Beverly, you are a great artist !

hooray for you! I was convinced that I was the only person to literally weep when I saw this farewell clip.
Thank goodness I'm no longer alone!!!!!!
