  • Vinegar, Baking soda and lemon juice are the number one organic cleaning products -you can get almost anything clean with them...

  • good tips. Always have made my own environmentally safe cleaners. Allergies to many chemicals started this. HEY..White vinegar does not make ur household smell like shit..It has a very mild vinegar scent that dissipates when dry. Tattoos are personal GLittergirl597.

But all that other info was awesome.

    THanks

  • Hey there, that is great, but have you looked at certified organic cleaning products which wont make your house smell like vinegar? I tried that too, and got sick of it fast. I found this AWESOME thing, an organic cleaner. It has living good bacteria in it, which work when you spay it on any surface. I have been using it, because it is certified organic, cleans extremly well and it is completly without toxins/chemicals! Check out my channel.

  • love this episode, i am totally going to make those products and the plant thing is such a good idea. i have one of those vine plants, but i always wondered how they grow. and dear meg, i do have a nesting problem. i adore christmas and decorting a tree with ornaments, but i wish that i could do it all year round for the other holidays. couldn't you help me figure out how to make a tree that can work all year-around, even for christmas?

thanks and i love your show!

  • You make it sound like a pregnant woman is baking soda and tea tree oil is vinnegar. Nothing is going to happen! Old wives tale urban legend crap.

  • the glass cleaner is BS

    use club soda =)

  • @ivlaryann really? i use alcohol and it cleans it sooo good! i have a friend that uses a couple squeezes of toothpaste w water in a spray bottle and she uses that ALOT for glass and mirrors, havent tried that one though

  • I think I need to retrain myself to be more fugal and less lazy. you videos are inspiring me.

  • wouldnt your house end up smelling like vinegar??

  • club soda is also good for windows

  • No. The smell of vinegar dissipates in mere moments.

  • @viczai No. In my experiance the vinegar smell goes away shortly after you finish drying up whatever you cleaned (windows, tables, tiles, etc.)

  • My mum cut the stem from a plant & put it in our fountain. It looks pretty funky.

  • I make my own laundry soap it is REALLY easy I got my recipe from the Duggars (family with 18 kids) you can google duggars laundry soap recipe!!

  • they are the model of frugality if i've ever seen it. kudos to them, for real.

  • @rudedogtrev Dr. Bronner's Lavender soap works great..just 1/4 cup and it should smell fresh

  • hey i have my home made magic eraser check out the video i made on it in my channel :D

  • hey again!

okay, i hope i don't sound like too much of an idiot... but what exactly is dr. bronners? is it something that everyone just kinda knows about? also, is there an alternative?

plus, if you want a fresh scent in any cleaner, add lavender oil to it. you can also use lavender oil as:

    bug repellant

disinfecting alternative to neosporin for cuts

    ear infection cure

    sinus clearer

    sleeping aid

    and perfume of course!!

it's amazing what it can do... it also stops and reverses swelling!

  • Indeed very nice vid, excellent ideas.

    Thanks again for sharing.

  • this is wonderful!!,thank you so very much mah friendship for sharing..i'll do the first part ,make my own cleaning solution.thank you ThreadBanger for you DIY channel..

  • In order that we do not encourage smart alecs, I am adding some information in answer to your question.

Yes in the third world villages, GOOD HOME HYGENE includes using cow dung for antibacterial wall plastering (painting), Cow dung for generating methane gas for house hold cooking and even lighting and I have personally witnessed such houses literally running on bio waste. The remains go into use as organic fertiliser for crops.

I hope that wakes up people to more natural and SAFE lifestyles.

  • peekthro, you are awesome. thank you for that informative answer. xo, m

  • Good video!

  • this is really great, have to love cleaning products that you make out of things you already own

  • our video promotes 'going green' too! very earth friendly

  • earth-friendly cleaners just in time for earth day! so perfect.

  • I tried the cleaners and LOVE them. I have only done the scrub and glass cleaner so far, but they are GREAT! I just never knew how easy it would be.

  • HELP! I used the all-purpose scrub on a mirror and now its all foggy and murky. D: Can someone tell me how to turn it back to normal? It would be appreciated!

  • use the natural glass cleaner or actually use mirror claner.

  • you can add a bit of distilled vinegar to your glass cleaner...my dad was a country boy and that was one of the things he taught me that i remember before he passed! try it i am sure you will like the results...besides it is in a BUNCH of store bought products!

  • The glass cleaner will definitely work! Have you fixed it yet? Best of luck.

  • Can't wait for the next one :]

  • i like havuing everything clea. but i dont like doing the work. I need a fast easy way to clean. (that doesnt cost much)

  • the corn starch kills molds like CRAZY. there's even a way to make a salve that will cure it if you have a skin-mold, but i forgot how to make it. this one guy had some condition of mold ALL over his body, so they used the corn-meal like out-meal bath. it cured him, but clogged the drains! @_@U

  • Word up Dr Bronner's!!

If you've never tried it, hit up your local health food store. I love Dr Bronner's in the shower! Nothing like a peppermint morning!

FYI: Dr Bronner's is just about the greatest thing for shaving. My husband uses it on his face & head and I love it for my legs.

    Organic rocks!

  • do you think you guys could do a show on kitchen stuff? like how to make cute approns or oven mits? i love cooking and would like to have cuter stuff like that to use and have on display instead of the unappealing ones that i'm using now.

  • That's a great idea. I have some ideas brewing for that in a few weeks. Thanks for the suggestions! xo, M

  • U guys are the best! I love going green :) And threadheads goes green with style B-)!

  • I love these shows. I look forward to them every Tuesday! I am very into home decor and cheaper ways to get things done. These videos are so helpful and they're fun to watch! keep up the good work!

  • I have a whole bunch of Buttons and don't know what to do with them I have a couple of ideas but don't think it will work so if anyone has any ideas Reply back Thanks!=)

  • OKay, I just watched ALL of them IN A ROW. I can't get enough!!!!

  • Wow, I just discovered this show. It is so cool! So hip, so cool and yet completely practical and helpful. Meg is adorable and hilarious while being really adept in the field of green living and home decor. I LOVE this new show.

  • Thanks for your great comment!

  • Now I don't have to watch the boring HGTV shows, they are just too much for me. This is way more my speed. Threadbanger had some pretty amazing foresight to bring this to the network.

  • We LOVE the new addition to Threadbanger! Having home decor Tuesdays and DIY Clothes Friday gives us a nice, well-rounded Do-It-Yourself week!

Keep up the great work Meg, Rob & Corinne!

  • heh heh :)

  • i think decor it yourself should get its OWN youtube channel. i dont really think that it should be on this one [its called threadbanger...not decor-it-youself-and-thread-banger.]

  • i agree with you!

  • Threadbanger is a NETWORK that will ultimately have a few different shows on it. ThreadHEADS (Rob and Corinne's show) is just 1 of them. So 'Decor It Yourself' is the first addition to the network.

The network is for people who make their own fashion, like- clothes, decor, art.

Thank you Threadbanger for having this cool insight into the world of FASHION! I love it!!!

This is just what I gather from the network and the forums. I love the new addition, Threadbanger, keep 'em coming!

  • ohhh. that makes sense :] i didnt mean to sound mean btw i just was stating an opinion.

  • whats dr. bronners?

  • That's what I was thinking. :/

  • if you mix equal parts of flour with vinegar you can use it to clean any dirty copper item, just wipe it on wait a minute and wash it off

  • I'm lucky enough to go to a green school! All the custodians and teachers use green cleaning supplies and we switched our lightbulbs to CFL bulbs, and we compost, recycle...Its pretty cool!

  • hollyophobia, that is SO cool that you go to a GREEN school! mad props to your school! where is it?

    much love, meg

  • I live in Vermont (go figure, haha) right in the heart of hippieville

  • These new green schools are fantastic!

  • I have already watched this a few times. I get something new from it each time I watch. The different vintage planters and containers you use for your gardening is really cool. You are really innovative.

  • not ALL plants can be propagated like that, only some

  • Hay there :D

My Nest needs some major help.

Im 15 in 2 monthes and I live with my 10 year old sister since... ever.

Our room is always massy and not only that, but it's boring and ugly.

What tips can you give me to make my room look better with out dying it or making major changes

  • Clean it. Don't let it be messy. And if your sister messes it up, beat her. You, as the older sister, ALWAYS hold the right to beat ANY younger sibling for ANY reason.

  • lol.

  • DuckyQueen350,

Here are just a few and I'll keep thinking about it for you.

*Create an inspiration board with cork and put pictures, album covers or pages of magazines that make you happy. You can change this around as frequently as you want.

*To try to stay organized, can you and your sister divide the cleaning in the room to make it a bit easier?

*Try getting cool boxes & decorate them for storage.

    xo, Meg

  • Are there any surfaces that shouldn't be treated to the vinegar solutions? And the anti-fungal one, is it corrosive at all?

  • if youz gots tonsa books like me, it's surprising how much that color-coding makes a difference in aesthetics... had to learn to get over the "subject categorization" tendency.... neurotic much? SHAKLEE is also a GREAT green cleaning line, love it.

  • please, please do more of this nature!!! i am more than just spring cleaning. we moved into this house two years ago and i have just now decided to unpack ON TOP of a cleaning that should include sandblasting! your pep talks and common sense are great. i can't be the only slob out there! (i'd rather read or play in the rock and roll band). but coming back to realiy, i am still my own maid! my husband helping? forgetaboutit! thanks for the great tips!!!

  • Fabulous! I feel enlightened and motivated to clean, now. Good idea about the bookshelf, too. I'm off to organize!

  • Love it! Love her. Now I'm going to make my homemade cleaners!

  • I love it, I love it, I love it.

  • I love the color book idea!

  • I wonder if you can add natural scent oils to it to erase the vinegarey smell hmmmm

  • you can if you want!

  • maybe adding some lemon or lime juice? That should still be a great grease/dirt cutter and add a bit of freshness... but really, vinegar doesn't smell at all once it's dry, which is better than the fake 'clean' smells you get with chemicals.

  • I would imagine that adding lemon or lime juice CAN end up in light bleaching in some cases, especially if you get direct sunlight.

  • I've never thought of arranging my books by color! That's a pretty cool idea! Thanks guys :D

  • what happened to the cloth tutorials ?

can you plizz make one on how to make a vest for prom ?

  • that was pretty useful, but what about homemade laundry detergent?

    mmmimosa

  • She's so nice :D. I love the library, thats a great tip since i have TONS of books :)))

  • I MISS R&C

  • Um why... they're still doing a show. This is just another one from ThreadBanger.

  • I dunno it just seems like they are going to start to appear less in the videos. I like this segment though

  • my sofa is dull.

as well as my other chairs in my house.

can you do something to help? haha.

  • i love this one, i was just talking to my mom about using enviromently safe cleaning products, thanks!

  • that book thing would drive me NUTS!!!!! i'd never be able to find ANYTHING!!! maybe it's because i've worked at a library for the past 4 years....

  • oh man...it'd drive me crazy too. and I've NEVER worked at a library.

  • Can you do something on gardening please???

Or keeping potted plants safe (from cats, bugs etc) inside?

    thanks!

  • What this Cleaning you speak of?

I'm not Familiar with this sort of magic.

Will it add Dexterity to My Necromancer?lol

May your show continue on till the end of time!

  • i know i clogged my bathtub drain "naturally"

sorry i dont recall the exact measurements

pour some baking soda first into the drain

then slowly pour some vinegar (apple cidar is good too, i used that)

IMMEDIATELY COVER cuz it's going to have a volcano reaction

let sit for 30min cover- boil some water

pour water down the strain and it should all be clear

    REPEAT if still clogged!

    peace

  • ugh, sorry major typos

    *i UNCLOGGED my drain

*and let it sit COVERED for 30 minutes.

  • sounds cool! :D I'll try that with my sink.

  • Sweet!

  • You just totally wowed me again with the organic cleaner, that is so cool. The book idea is genius and the plant tip- so easy! My house is going to look so fantastic now. I am ready for Spring!

  • awesome video !

  • oooh i live the book idea~! i'll do that one day :)

  • another awesome episode. thanks for all the green tips! keep 'em coming...

  • FAVORITE EPISODE SO FAR. The plant tip was great, and I LOVE your Goonies glass. Where do you find these gems?

The color coordinated book shelf is so cool. I am totally trying that. Thank you, Threadbanger!

  • You're welcome! Meg has so many fantastic ideas- we are thrilled to have her be a part of ThreadBanger.

  • What kind of plants can be used like that? I want to plant them in theese cleaned out coke cans i have. I tried the color organizing-it came out great! Thanks for the tips :D

  • I should add to the Bath tub scrub, that one should rinse really really well when you are done scrubbing. Otherwise you will have some white powdery/soapy residue.

  • Oh wow, this episode is so helpful! I have always wanted to make my own cleaners, but had no idea how. The book idea-GENIUS! So fun and refreshing.

Nice work, once again Decor It Yourself.

  • Bathtub Scrub:

    1/2 cup baking soda

1/4 borax (blue mule team brand in laundry aisle)

a few squirts of dish detergent, I prefer veggie based.

a couple drops of fav scent of Dr. Bronners

Stir all together and add some water to make a soupy paste. Smear a spoonful onto your sponge to scrub your tub!

Store indefinitely in a recycled plastic container with tight light.

  • Then don't watch. The rest of us DO live on our own and love them!!!

  • Then why are you watching it?
