  • @bcterry98258 Post a video of your success with RTFM. :)

  • Are you seriously complaining about not having a pretty boot splash screen that hides the startup process? The only time you should even have a monitor connected to this box is during installation, immediately after to reconfigure networking, and if/when it crashes and/or is inaccessible remotely.

  • why it say CentOS?

  • IMO, '2010' = dumbed down; 90's = informative. If you're digging into Asterisk and heavily customizing, some of the information is necessary.

In addition, in 2010 (and through most of the 2000's), virtualization is the name of the game. Run your server in a virtual machine. It will give you less grey hair.

  • @pleabargain The FreePBX-based Asterisk systems (AsteriskNOW, PIAF, Trixbox) are popular with geeks that want to heavily customize their systems. If you're looking for a free and modern ("2010") interface that just works, Google for "Switchvox Free Edition." It's a free Asterisk-based phone system, with a completely modern web-based interface.

  • During the installation process, you set a "root" (or administrator) password. To log into the console as shown here, use "root" as the username instead of "asterisk" or "admin" as shown in the video. Use the root password you set during installation.

To find the IP address, log in as root and type: ifconfig

However, you manage your AsteriskNOW server from a web browser, not from the linux console. Use a web browser on a separate computer to browse to the address of your AsteriskNOW server.
