They weren't psychos. They were heavily armed bank robbers. They have done this many times prior to this. They just never had to deal with any interference. When they did they refused to give up the money. And since I'm sure they wouldn't want to give up the money AND spend the rest of my life in a cage. The would just rather fight to the death for it or escape with it. In my opinion the police should have let them go and looked for them later or tried to track the money somehow.

I will agree with the psycho part I don't think they were psycho they just had a strong hatred for cops. But they were definitley spraying and praying. Go check out the 1986 Miami shootout after the bank robbery. A former army ranger with military tactics and precision killed 2 FBI agents and severely wounded more. If these guys had used military precision with their assault rifles they would have killed tons of cops. Instead they just sprayed at each car hoping to hit the cop behind it.

lmao these dumb documentaries never get their ballistics right. The suspects DID NOT have AK-47's , Larry had an AKM with 7.62X39mm Steelcore Armor piercing rounds, Emil had a modified HK91 firing 7.62x52mm rounds and an illegally modified AR-15 tweaked to fire full auto with 5.56x45mm NATO or possibly .223 Remington rounds. , And the SWAT teams do NOT carry M16's , they carry scoped m4a1 carbines.

buddy the SWAT team was equipped with the standard M4A1 NOT the carbine version. And the m16 was never in service with the LAPD. They DID however use Armalite AR-15 LE's ( Supplied to them by a nearby gun store )but they were NOT FULLY AUTOMATIC. The SWAT team only encounters Emil, They do not confront Larry. Larry was shot in the spine from an officer at a distance with a 9mm Beretta. The 9mm parabellum severed his Central nervous system sending a jolt through his body. This caused his suicide

Their cops people, not soldiers. They don't carry grenades and snipers would have to had get into the area to shoot, a regular patrol officer is not the same as a sniper. In most cases the officers have to purchase high powered weapons out of their own pockets, the dept only gives them the standardized weapon. And by the way jackass, In 1997 the Barret we know to be the M107 was the M82. The only reason the name was revised was due to military purchasing a surplus of them in 2005 under the "Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle Congressional Program,". ALL previous variants of this rifle were designated M82. So in theory ,The M107 was not available around 1997 in the form you are referring to. Aside from that, there was no specific need for such a large calibre against these targets. A .303 or .308 would do fine
