But its influences are really cross-cultural — Boogaloo and Tap-Dancing, for example. In fact, some breakdancing elements are directly taken from Asian martial arts, like stuff you'd see in Kung Fu movies. =)

Break dancing did not come from russia. Breakdance roots back to the South deriving from the Charlston dance. The Charleston dance derived from an African martial art brought by slaves known as knocking and kicking. This art is still practiced today but is highly secretive and beginning to die out. The art is strongly practiced amoung the Gullah peoples of South and North Carolina. These people were able to precerve their african cultures and traditions through the times of slavery.
