Why would they purposely cook their worst at audition. That's already a major fail. They should have been trying their hardest then you would've seen the true nature of their cooking skill.
I really don't like Anne Burrell. I like the show concept but she's just not very likeable and I have no idea how she's getting on all these shows that require talking.
Lolll Tomato soup?? but then again when I first started cooking for myself (in elementary school) I always burned the soup and it would spill over because I put the heat on too high. Lollll
The BGM for this show is awesome, but doesn't it strike you as odd that they use one of the BGMs on this show as the theme song on The Best Thing I Ever Ate? Lol. 5:58 - 6:05, very short, but noticeable, and 7:53 - 8:10 annnd again on 9:28. That's just funny and ironic. Is it a mistake? Lol. I like the guitars, though.
I don't understand this, why are they afriad of going home? wouldn't that mean they're not that bad of a cook? Wtf this show is phony as fuck - How hard is it to make gross food?
@skatergurljubulee No. It means you aren't improving and you fail. It's the people who do the worst that get eliminated. The whole catch is to turn them into better cooks.....
@loaskokdop They also evaluate you in the kitchen. Bringing bad food is one thing, having people vouch for you and cooking terribly in the kitchen is another. You'd be stupid to think you can get in by lying to seasoned professional chefs. Anyone who's been around long enough in any field can tell if someone has no skills or is faking something or not.
I knew it! After Captain MacMillan's tour with then Sergeant Price from Call of Duty 4, he went on to become a chef. Like he always says, 'Oi, Suzy! Don't do anything stupid.'
Oh Geez, never heard of this until it showed up on a Hell's Kitchen sidebar. (Hope it's good and thanx for postng!) I don't claim to be "chef"-worthy but OMG, these opeining dishes are AWEFUL looking!! It's terrible, lol!!! Have a feeling this will be hilarious!!! :o)
They should offer a $5,000 prize to the cook who makes the best signature dish. If they do this for a second season, the cooks will know the "twist" that the twelve worst get chosen, and that way they'll have an incentive to not deliberately fail.
the girl with dark hair, glasses and a yellow shirt/jumper scares me at how much she looks like a direct descendant of Fred and Rosemary West! that is frightening.
@MarlaisO when my Mum went into hospital to have my brother and my Dad had to fend for himself he decided to have a roast chicken, he did this by putting a whole chicken into the deep fryer for an hour!! I cannot imagine how awful it was but he actually did eat it =) funny thing is I grew up to become a chef, guess none of my kitchen skills were passed down from Dad!!
I thought this show would be fun, instead it's another excuse for suburban S+M courtesy the Food Channel.
"Teaching" to cook the way they do here is idiotic and simply sets the contestants up for abuse. I guess that's the point these days. Wut fun, hur hur.
Along with Chopped, it takes a fun idea and turns it into a bully fest.
Nothing like reducing some poor schmuck who can't boil water to tears because their Lamb with raspberry vinaigrette didn't come out right the first time they ever tried to make the damn thing.
When the task is to make a serious plate out of, gerbil, sweet tarts, and belly button lint, it's pitiful to see the judges act like someone got their McDonald's order wrong. AND then they act like the prize money is theirs! "For $10,000, you could show more respect!"
My point is that our culture has an inescapable, morbidly sadistic edge to it these days. Like prison culture.
@PRIVATEAYEIEYE I agree, it is the result of the sheer amount of poor quality people in society these days. Many act like attention seeking retards, they think that is near them belongs to them. How wrong they are, when we grind them all into a bloody gurgling mess.
@PRIVATEAYEIEYE I don't know that Chopped is a "bully fest" since the people completing are putting themselves forward as professional chefs who can create on the fly.
This show lost me the episode where they put the recipe on a chalkboard and then less than halfway through preparation they erased it without warning. What does THAT have to do with learning how to be a better cook?
@robotrix I just think Chopped would be better if it was more like the Gong Show. There should be more fun and less sour faces. Spectacular failures should be encouraged!
Instead they're judged like they've flubbed an order and embarrassed the guest.
It would be fun to see some really horrible cooks learn the basics, but World's Worst isn't it. Got to admit I can't stand Anne (more salt!) Burrell. She's like some unholy cross between Guy Fieri, Fran Drescher, and a High School lunch lady.
@PRIVATEAYEIEYE true but that is just how it is in most kitchens from day one as an apprentice, you have to be strong and willing to accept the harshest criticism, yelled at etc but then at the end of service forget it all as otherwise you would be in tears every day. I understand this is a tv show and they aren't chefs nor is it a real kitchen, but it is a quick test to see who can handle pressure and stress in very intense situations.
@asjabluedog I worked in the restaurant biz as a cook and manager for about 10 years. I had one rule in my kitchen; I was the only one who could yell, and I don't yell. It seems to me that America has simply decided that being a sadist is a positive trait.
@asjabluedog You're obviously ill informed and a retard if you don't think they're real chefs. Chef Beau is a competitor and winner on Iron Chef America and Chef Anne has competed in tons of Iron Chef battles as Iron Chef Batali's sous-chef. Even Tyler Florence (Great Food Truck Race) and Claire Robinson (5 Ingredient Fix) are "real" chefs, even though they hardly ever look the part.
Simply put, I would make you eat the contestants' "dishes" for your blasphemy.
@cottagechskitty Sure. I could advertise for someone to do anything, good or bad, and get someone to do it for a price. So the question remains, why would I, or the public, prefer to see people degraded, bullied, their desperation exploited?
Cheaply made, ugly spirited, "reality" shows have grown in exact proportion to the level that the media has been consolidated. Nothing like cuddling up to the rich and watching the little people squirm, eh? Let's make 'er eat a penis! Ha! She's doing it!
@4everjesusily Hm. I ask for a bit of dignity and less humiliation on TV, and I'm a hater.
99% of basic cable makes human beings look like creatures who need institutionalization or a slave master, and I'm the hater.
Reminds me of people who say, "You're prejudiced against me just because I'm prejudiced! You're no better!".
Nothing gets me more flack than simply expressing that we aren't being very nice to each other these days, and that corporate media seems to like it that way.
@PRIVATEAYEIEYE Oh for ****s sake. What a bunch of BS. I don't give a damn what you think, you poser, and I think this show is brilliant. It actually teaches people all around the country how to do something, and these people they've chosen show how you fuck it up. This show may not be as helpful as Masterchef, but hey, the contestants aren't all that good, so why spend funding Food Network probably doesn't have? It's also nice that they give you the recipes, so it's not simply, "haha you suck".
@PRIVATEAYEIEYE Sometimes people need a harsh critic to grow effectively. I mean, Kitchen Nightmares is based entirely around harsh criticism to break down false success and then rebuilding them to stand on real triumphs.
I love this show. It had me laughing for awhile but I'm a kid learning how to cook and in my family everyone can cook delicious meals. So I learned some useful things too.
