@ WMORGAN48, my father was the director of our men's chorus, so I was listening to the H4, Soul Stirrers and all the rest from around 8, lol. He used to lead all of Jimmy's songs. I joined @ 14 and took over as director @ 32, when he couldn't do it anymore. I took all my dad's leads, since our range was almost identical. I had to raise Jimmy's songs 1/2 a step though, him and my dad were straight in the basement, but I can do Sam and Paul's leads, though. Nothing like men's chorus singing.
Hi, i sing in a men's choir, and for our 50th anniversary i suggested to sing some H4 songs too. Problem: hard to find the written music. Maybe you can help? Please reply to john.marchand@telenet.be. Thanks in advance.
MY FATHER TURN ME ON TO THESE DUDES WHEN I WAS 15, BEFORE THAT DAY, I USED TO WONDER.. HOW THE HELL THE TEMPTATIONS, DELLS, DELFONICS, DRAMATICS, CHI-LITES, CONTOURS, BOYS TO MEN, JAGGED EDGE, JODECI, H TOWN, AND SO ONE AND SO ONE.....DOO WOP'S TRUE ROOTS CAME STRAIGHT FROM THE BLACK CHURCH.......
I've previously taken the Soul Stirrers w/Sam Cook version to be the final cut. But this is a brilliant interpretation and arraingment. This bass singer is solid and knows his voice. Thank you so much for sharing this!
There's a book out titled: The Gospel Side Of Elvis. In it, the author, one of the Imperials Gospel group who backed up Elvis in Vegas for years stated that Ray Walker told him Elvis once said: "The Lord messed up when he didn't make me a bass singer." Elvis searched for Jimmy Jones,. They found him but he was in ill health and couldn't do it. He loved The Harmonizing Four's song: Let's Go To That Land! I wish someone would post that one here! Thanks! Joe Scibetta
Jimmy Jones, a TRUE bass among basses, although my Dad did a beatiful rendition of this song himself with his brothers, The Taylor Brothers, who shared the stage with this group a few times in the fifties. I remember, as a child, sitting in the living room listening to The Harmonizing Four on the record player. I can still hear my Dad singing this song along with Jones. Two of the BEST basses I know. This is definitely my favorite Harmonizing Four song. Thanks for the post.
I want to agree ...but my dad was a bass singer as well.....but he had me check out Dickie Freeman of The Fairfield Four.....now i rank my dad 3rd after Jones
I'm so glad that I am the BIGGEST Elvis Presley fan in the world because I dont think I would have ever known these gentlemen if it wasnt for him loving them while he was alive. These fellas harmonize so well together. I love them.
I ordered this 45 from Randy's Record Shop in Galliten, Tn back in about 1952 or so and just wore it out. I thought it was gone forever until I found it today.
I LISTEN TO THIS GROUP TWICE A WEEK.THE PERSON ON BASS IS MY FAVORITE

Wow. What an incredible bass voice. It's amazing because he hits those notes without growling them out.

Absolutely THE bass singer. Such power! You can actually hear the recording tech cut back the volume in one part of the song!
