  • good thing i didnt watch the whole video

  • Hi! I'm gonna do my first try on customizing a pair of Nikes, (just simply paint the "Swoosh"). I've started prepping, but nothing seems to be happening. They're kinda shiny (don't have that "leather-finish") so I'm just wondering if you know if I have to use/do sth different than acetone to get them prepped?

Would be really nice if you could tell - I don't wanna fuck them up... :p

  • can you use angelus acrylic paint on canvas shoes?

  • would rubbing alcohol work?

  • I just dont get when to stop :( And are there any kinda of special brushes i should be using? I bought these really cheap ones and bubbles started to form? Not the beads he was talking about.

  • if i paint my shoes with acrylic paint, and later on i want them back white (original color) can I use acetone to get it back to normal again?

  • what kind of acetone ?

  • Is there anyway I can get preprepped shoes

  • would it be better to start my first on color shoes or white shoes?

  • there are solvents that are more of a jelly consistency and then you can coat the desired area and let that sit a bit. i've never tried it on shoes to remove the factory finish but i see no reason why it wouldnt work. I believe its called something like heavy or extra strength paint thinner.

  • "uneed to take the wax off." (pause).....haha i said waxs off. lmfao

  • Yo waddup Jacob, hey just wanted to ask what brand of brush do u use? i had some divinci brand but their hard to find.

  • can you do this with Jordan 1's as well?

  • @Goa113 anything leather!

  • do i have to prep my shoes if im using acrylic paint?

  • @19mcafro93 you can't use acrylic paint. But prepping is the most important par of the process if that's what you're asking ;)

  • do i have to prep my shoes if im using acrylic paint?

  • Hey im gunna paint my own nikes and i was planning on doing a cookie monster design. when i get to hard to paint spots of him could i use a marker or just use a thin brush?

  • @riku846 you would need to use a thin brush. I use a 20/0 spotter.

  • i have a not so smart ? what if u put the whole shoes in a tub of acetone

  • @yesiamagirl08 it wouldn't work because you have to rub the wax off. The acetone isn't strong enough to just melt it.

  • @WiggaTriggaTV ok thanks for answerin

  • Heyo, do you need to prep the sidewall / use different paint on the sidewall?

  • @Zorak720 as in the midsole? You can't paint the rubber...

  • hm..do you need to prep for canvas?

  • @govnenk no sir! Just paint :)

  • @WiggaTriggaTV okay thanks!

  • how do you know if you over prepped?

  • @CwalkerShuffleZ you really can't overprep unless you physically start tearing through the leather...

  • Hey again, Is there leather underneath the swoosh on the "Nike indee shoe"? If you

Or anyone knows tell me asap. I just want to be safe before I rub acetone on my shoes.

  • @prayermair not sure never tried that base :|

  • sup wigga.

i paint stuff but especialy shoes... im 16 so im not very good with the materials... I use to paint vans but now i wanna try nikes..

the thing is that my paint dosnt stick on the shoe:(

im using acrilic and i'm wondering what to do .

    thanks !:)

  • @DIPSdaDINOZOR you ahve to use angelus paints because it is made to chemically bond to the leather!

  • very helpful! thanks!

  • One more thing, can I use some spray paint and then use acetone to take it off once the angelus arrives?

  • @prayermair I highly suggest you dont use spray paint.

  • Can I prep the swooshes and paint it like a week later? And could You tell me where to buy the "Angelus paint" in the US? Thanks! :)

  • @prayermair yeah you can prep any time before painting them. You dont have to paint immediately. For angelus paints got to turtlefeathersdotnet

  • how can you prep patent leather?

  • @matthewotero24 you can't prep or paint patent leather

  • how do you prep patent leather?

  • Which color of Angelus paint should I use to copy the red swoosh that Marty Mcfly has on his Nike bruin's?

  • @prayermair you may want to mix a couple colors.

  • could i use paint thinner? i don't really know the differnce between the two

  • @infiniteswtv no just go to a hardware store and ask for acetone, they will know what you are talking abotu

  • @infiniteswtv no it doesn't have the acetone in it

  • lol wax off. thanks for the tut bro.

  • lmfao this probably took you a 1000 years, why not just get all white dunks?

  • @veneracci you stuill have to prep white Dunks. But the sole cant be changed, so you usually need to buy color kicks

  • I just wanted to know good Sir, if I could use a stuffed weasel from a taxidermist's shop soaked in acetone to remove the wax coating on my adidas stan smiths? The fur on this creature is rather bristly and stiff so should have just the right abrasiveness coupled with good tensile strength. Plus I thought it's chisel like teeth could be useful in those hard to get to nook and crannies. Yay or nay?

  • @lozinja haha it may very well work out. But oyu would need a couple weasels, or you may just have to scrub your weasel every few minutes. Or switch between weasel sections rather quickly.

  • @WiggaTriggaTV I got a badger instead as it has a larger surface area. All joking aside thanks for the prep tutorial I will be prepping my adidas beckhams soon. With cotton wool I might add.

  • where can i buy angelus paint in canada, preferably in toronto?

  • @kullarz fatbuddhastore (dotcom)

  • Once prep and when you design your kicks, do you need to apply something to keep your kicks in good shape? (i.e. like waxing your car after you watersanded to remove scratches?)

  • @munkeyb0i after you're done painting you can add the matte finisher

  • hey nice work man, but i just have a few questions I'm about to start preping a pair of original NIKE hyperdunks and i was wondering what to do about the flywire? do i put acetone on it or just got around it? and also there is perminant marker stains and pen stains on the shoe will i be able to just prep over it then paint over it?

  • @nextMayoWade not sure about the flywire, but I can tell you that anything that you put on leather can be removed with acetone. And then you can just paint over that area with angelus.

  • cud yu use old toothbrushes or magic erasers other than cotton balls? i hav bin usin cotton balls n its takin forever!

  • @blahblah5426 magic erasers work well from what I hear.

  • Great video ! i really need ur help , i bought a pair of nike sbs , i want to change the NIKE logo thats on the heel,, the logo is black and i want to change it to white , i have bought a bunch of paint pens and nothing works , the NIKE logo is Stiched on i dont know wat kind of paint i could use??? or can i go to one of those shoe repair places and see if they can do it

  • @flykicks1016 use angelus paints. It should cover it right up!

  • if u were cumstomizing a pair of all white forces would u still have to scrub off all the paint? and do u scrub off all the paint on the bottom to if u want to paint that? thanks for the video. really helpful

  • @THENGUYENINGTEAM yeah anywhere you want to paint you need to get rid of the wax first

  • great vid man! gon get started on my forces today! what paint would u recommend jus askin

  • @dhal6761 you must must must use angelus. Nothing else! Watch my other video

  • Prepping probably takes 3 days...

  • If your shoes are already painted, do not go over it with acetone, if you must, use a very small amount and rub very lightly. If enough acetone gets on the paint, it will remove the paint whether you rub on it or not. Whenever painting anything, it's also a good idea to mix in a small amount of acetone into the paint, mix ratio - 5:2 of paint to acetone.

  • @jolinax You are definitely correct sir. You must rub VERY lightly to remove paint.

If you are using angelus paint you can dilute it with water instead of acetone though...

    Thanks for the comment!

  • @WiggaTriggaTV do yu have 2 dilute all yur paints with water/acetone or can yu use d paint straight out of d bottle?

  • @blahblah5426 if it's angelus you can just paint with it. Sometimes you may wanna dilute it with a bit of water but most of the time you can just paint.

  • for the painting part, I wanted to use a spray; I was going to use (Krylon) Short Cuts Hobby/Craft Paint I got from Home Depot, will this stay/not crack and do I have to use another finish over this?

  • @paintball3388 I don;t think it'll work perfectly... though it may if you mix a small amount of acetone into it. I suggest buying angelus and airbrushing it!

  • Thanks for the help in this video- been looking for some good tips and this video helped a sh!t ton- keep up the good work!

  • i wanna start customizin shoes can i use anything with acetone in it

  • yo man real talk you kol for teaching us how to do this .cuz i know this is your grind and how you make money and shit its just amzing how you give the time of day to evan read all are comments much and hit us bak thank you man ......respect forreal man . i hope the best for you no lie

  • yo bruh..just use a bath scrub wit acetone/alcohol! ONLY TAKES 5 MINUTES.....

  • i have a pair of beat up superstars which i painted once already completely white like few months ago, and now i'm thinking painting them again. So can i paint over the the white or do i have to do the prep all over again. Like i said the shoes are really worn so the outcome doesn't have to be perfect but i just need to know if i have to do the prep again.

    thanks

  • I would suggest prepping them again simply because the paint will stick better to the leather than to another layer of paint...

But if it doesn't have to be perfect don't bother

  • can i do this with my jordens but they are the like bumpe leather you knw?

  • yeah it should be fine.

  • Hey Jacob, can you please answer...

Is it worth doing this over buying customized shoes off the official Nike Website? Also what would be the total cost and time needed? Also, how much experience do you have? And what should me, a newbie attempt to do. Thanks, and great vids!

  • Buying shoes from NikeID is much easier, if you can afford it, do that.

If you want to do anything crazy you'll need to customize your own kicks. I figure you'll pay like $120 for all the materials and the shoes. Then it's just a matter of buying shoes til those materials run out!

For newbies, I suggest colorway changes or patterns, it's easy! Good luck!

  • Jacob i think i found a way to paint mid soles its expensive and you have to make sure the upper part of the shoe is masked. Parasol Rubberbond its a Canadian rubber paint and I've heard the shoes don't crack cause it absorbs into the rubber. you would wanna get the spray can though I'm going to try it after i get the first part of the project done and they have lots of colors to. You should just go check it out on Google it should be the first site.

  • Thanks for the details! I have heard this as well. I may try it out...

  • yo man real talk you kol for teaching us how to do this .cuz i know this is your grind and how you make money and shit its just amzing how you give the time of day to evan read all are comments much and hit us bak thank you man ......respect forreal man . i hope the best for you no lie

    IM NOT PREPPING

the blackish color is fading away i repeat. and how do we get that black color back

  • @halofreak117222 oh ok. The only to do that would be to prep them and then paint them black.

  • what i mean is that the black color is fading away. how do we get the black color to stay im NOT PREPPING i just want the black color back.

my shoe is Nike dunks camo green black

the black IS FADING I WANT THE BLACK BACK

  • i meant when were not prepping

  • hey dude what do i do when the back part of my dunks is fading its color. i see this gray spots on the leather back part of it and i dont know how to make it go away WAT DO I DO BRP

  • @halofreak117222 the gray is what you want! Keep prepping!

  • what i mean is that you told me in the video that i might be prepping it too hard (around 8:00). cause the point where im at, its gray underneath.

  • @msneaky15 the gray is perfect. It's much better to get to that point across the entire shoe.

  • aight so i watched it and it gets alot of the questions away but i got 1 more. i started preping the front panel of the same white reboks and i noticed its kinda white/gray underneath with kinda smooth texture. is there such thing as prepping too much cause i really pressed really hard

  • @msneaky15 that's exactly what you are trying to get to.

  • Thanks for the reaction!

    But...

  • @timkoelen regular ol sneaker shops

  • Where do you buy your shoes?

    Nike high dunk all leather?

  • where do u get angelus shoe paint from?

  • Thanx agaim man much love , i think i have one more question and ill leave you alone for white shoes can you make another vid or explian it better bc i didnt really see what you were talking about bc you said not to go to the grey but the dots on the white you went to the grey , and how much on avrage do you charge for kicks ?

  • and do you need to put a finisher ? and if not can i just in case ? and also and sorry for the dumb qs i cant wait to show you my work

  • @Pooply21 Yeah you can put a finisher. Use th ematte finisher from the website. The nikes I was using were called the Highlighter Dunks

  • whats the name of those nikes?

  • How much MONEY does this get use to

    buy all those shoes?!!

  • what kind of paint do you need for vans and converse

  • @Pooply21 angelus still

  • on white vans and converse is there much prepping? like would i have to work as hard as you do on nikes?

  • @Pooply21 there's no prepping on canvas material

  • thnx for this vid!! can i use nail polish remover to take of the wax coating??

  • Could you use a sponge instead of the cotton balls?

  • @K4Jizzle nah it'll get torn up. I have heard you can use brillo pads though

  • how do you paint tongues? spray paint or angelus

  • @thegoaliekid never use spray paint for anything ever

  • so how do i paint the tongues angelus?

  • @thegoaliekid Yes sir.

  • also where can i find all white dunks i can't find them anywhere at all

  • @thegoaliekid nowhere right now. Gotta wait til they're in season.

  • which is when?

  • @thegoaliekid not sure... google it.

  • don't see a single thing what do you do for shoes right now?

  • @thegoaliekid I just use whatever is available at the time

  • so you use like random colored dunks sometimes

  • @thegoaliekid yes

  • Oooh ok thank you very much.

  • I am customizing a nike north dunks and bought some store brand nail polish remover(that contains acetone) instead of pure acetone. The waxy material thing isn't coming off though the shoes just stay the same. Do i need real acetone or can i not do this with Nike North dunks

  • @thegoaliekid you can't use nail polish remover. You need 100%
