Another great video. Piracy will continue to happen until you get a comparable experience paying for something as you do from pirating it. Right now, in addition to being free you also get to skip 30 minutes of ads before a movie, avoid DRM like you mentioned and in general use the product how you would like. The entertainment industry has given us no reason NOT to pirate.
@Rolfie25 I imagine the beta will go open soon, but you can get a closed beta key right now from their official Facebook page: facebook[.]com/tribesascend?sk=app_126443417467788
Also, maybe the hardware activation was just poor design on the developers point of view? I can see how they might use a hardware detection program which would detect the specific build of the computer to see if it had been installed on that system before. So when the video card was changed it would detect a new combination and thus a new system. That to me sounds like poor code design rather than poor decision making from executives.
@iSwerti With a decent video card you can run it on low. I have a core 2 duo laptop with an 8600M GT video card that runs it (though very choppy). As long as your video card is decent you will be fine.
Completely agree with your points on the DRM and Ubisoft. Really can't stand some of the things they are doing to gamers these days, but they don't care about "our market" as much as they used to. Maybe the next gen consoles will be more conducive to our style of gaming so we have to stop making such ridiculous choices.
@MrNinjaBlade The flying vehicle is called a shrike. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the vehicles in Tribes, but I may do a video about them at some point.

@vol1tion and then they wonder why PC gamers pirate. They complain we pirate and then they give PC gamers even more reason to pirate it. Even from a non gamer perspective how the hell would this lower piracy?
Now about the piracy issue. I just don't understand why a company takes 'anti-piracy measures' that only hurt the paying customers while the pirates just play freely without restrictions. I mean I used to buy pc games and still buy pc games EXCEPT when it's Ubisoft (DRM), EA (DRM and Origin) or some other company that decides to enforce some DRM or other shit policy that doesn't help fight piracy (in fact, it stimulates it). Why would they stab theirselves in the back?
totally agree with you. people who still play cs have probably changed gpu once a year so that's around 10 upgrades. and the community is still thriving. they have a created a model that completely limits the lifespan of their game. possibly so hopefully you will go give them more money for a new game
Can somebody help me? I uploaded a video about 3 times now and after it's uploaded i click the link and iz says that it was removed :( but i didn't remove it.
There are two companies in PC gaming that get it right all the time, Blizzard and Valve. I honestly wish companies would look at them, particularly Valve and notice that people in the PC gaming community want to give them their money, by want I mean scream at Valve and Blizzard to take their money. As a PC gamer I feel that these companies treat me well. I get a better product than any pirate can offer me. Valve has constant sales; Blizzard sells WoW and gives DB3 for free.

brandon , my tribes ascend no longer works , when i open simply appears with an error "Out of bounds" . Have researched this , seems to be some computer coding jargon. I could not find any support for this problem . Please help.
@VoiD1x I have no idea what would be causing your issue. I'd try re-installing first off. If that doesn't do the trick, check the Hi-Rez forums and make a post about your issue there.
I think they should just face the fact that games will be pirated. I saw a tweet from notch saying that if you cant afford minecraft just pirate it and that you should feel bad though
I think its pretty easy to agree that ubisoft has been consisitently making terrible decisions in their treatment of pc gaming, I am against piracy in general and feel that most companies deserve to be paid for the work they do. Ubisoft and Activision's pc titles for me are almost not worth giving them money on a steam sale, but I think they're the exception. Keep posting videos, man, I enjoy them all.
I used to be a huge pirate but now I just look at the games on the top 100 on the piratebay to see what I want to wait for to be on a steam sale. There's good feeling when I buy games now. Never pirate indie games that's just being an asshole.
I don't pirate games because it is something I value. I don't understand company's concepts of piracy. If people are pirating your game, it's probably because the don't value it enough to pay for it anyway. I pirate the shit out of music because there are a thousand ways to get it and I don't value it enough. I don't know where the concept of "lost sales" or where the money these guys think they are losing is coming from. That may sound hypocritical, but it's my 2¢.
The money supposedly "lost" from pirated downloads isn't accurate considering a large number of those downloads are from people who wouldn't actually buy their product if it wasn't available for free. They just need a better way to offer their content. Paying monthly for Netflix/Sky+ offers movies, shows and music for me to re-watch/listen to over and over. If a fair service is on offer, more people will oblige.
@SpankingGuru Haha, I do still play BF3 every now and then. If I ever manage to get an exciting gameplay that doesn't involve me dying constantly to vehicles and snipers across the map, I'll certainly use it for a video!
I'm just waiting for Ubisoft to totally stop porting to PC. What's the point? Want to totally stop people from pirating on PC? Stop porting the game period. Guaranteed no piracy.
@iyuks I don't think they are too worried about that. Pirating console games is pretty difficult. If you're smart enough to do it, you probably aren't playing on a console anyway. Besides that, everyone on PC knows how to pirate and its a relatively small customer base compared to consoles. Where almost nobody knows how to pirate.
@CharlieTango91 I had an xbox I had bought from another country and when I came to the U.S. it didn't work so I flashed the xbox and I was able to burn games and play whatever I want. This was great for a full 2 days until my dad went onto the xbox and updated it. FML.
@CharlieTango91 i have to disagree with you on this, if you know/ can find someone who can flash an xbox it's as easy as downloading an iso, then burning it to a dual layer dvd or installing it on a hd (jtag). the flash process is a one time thing (except if theres a major update such as wave 1 to wave 4). online play is still possible (after a precautionary process) but it's risky and can get you banned from the live service, but you can still play pirated games regardless
@iyuks You just proved my point. How many console players do you actually know that can do this properly? Of course there are a few, but if you're willing to put that much effort into playing a console game odds are you're a PC player. People who dedicate enough time to learn this stuff realize how superior playing on a PC is. The point I was trying to make is that piracy is much more of an issue on PC than console. Not that piracy is gone from console, just that is much less prevalent.
'Relatively small' is completely wrong. Sub mmo's (Rift, DCUO, SWTOR, WoW, Perfect World, Guild Wars, Aion etc) easily have 30m+ players, (not including free players/private servers). Skyrim has set a record on Steam. Many FPS games (CoD's, TF2, Quake, Halo, CS etc are still being played). There are 200m+ PC gamers. I can't remember where but there was a stat a while back saying there are many times more PC gamers than consolers. Small market? Lol, excuses.
@billybobjoeftw It's not a competition here. I don't know why you felt to need to try and tell me off. I'm just saying that there is obviously a reason companies push so hard to the console market over the PC. I don't think I've ever seen a TV add for a Valve game other than Portal, but I can't watch TV for 30 minutes without seeing COD/GoW/BF3. Since you're so smart, please tell me why companies push marketing to consoles so much more if PC is more profitable.
There are only a two sets of hardware (360 & PS3) compared to PC, which has thousands, so it takes more to make it run (driver issues, game coding etc) so there's likely need to have patches, which takes MORE time.
Console games get sold at a higher price (sometimes 50% higher than the comparative PC game) because of things like online sales which don't have 'stock' per se, just a need to generate keys, so on a sale by sale basis, they make more = prio.
Then there's the whole 'DLC' culture. For example on CoD4, PC players got the DLC for free, because Nvidia sponsored it. However, on consoles it's becoming the trend to make a game sort of half baked/unfinished if you will so you can sell people DLC's down the line for more profit. I don't know about you, but paying to get a few more maps is not worth it. It should have been in the game from the start.
Then there's the entire advertising thing. You don't see Valve games because they don't need to advertise them. The playerbase is there, it's been set with games like HL, TF, CS and Portal. Granted they were risks before but now there're millions that will know about it, so they don't NEED to. Advertising is useless, it's spending money needlessly since their market already knows about it.
It's done for consoles because (and I'm generalising) the market is aimed at people with not enough knowledge or the lack of will to build their own PC or who can't afford one or who just want a 'plug and play' machine. Generally, that's the child market, compared to the PC's more mature market (who usually have income to spare). Adverts will make the child bug the parent. They don't want their child to be left out or disappointed, so they buy it. It's cunning.
Oh and on the DLC thing, sometimes it's too big for the disc, since on 360 it's just ~6.8gb. It's either keep the content and have essentially double the production cost (double the discs) or cut it and sell it at a profit as DLC later. Also, it could be cut from the game because there's 'enough' content already, then release it later because they know people will buy it. There can be a MASSIVE profit from DLC, which they know they can do.
@billybobjoeftw Out of everything you said, all you did was prove my point. Console is more profitable than PC for a publisher. There is simply no way around it. Of course there is tons of money in PC development, but if it were the biggest piece of pie with the most opportunity it would get the most attention by developers. The fact that companies develop and market to consoles essentially proves how much more profit is to be made. After all, that's what every company wants.
Well yes and no. If developers actually put out games that were worth buying, then they'd see much larger profits. They can't say they're not focusing on it because of the market, it's definitely there, it's just laziness. I'm not going to buy a game that should have their 'DLC' in it from the start or a 'map pack' that's from a previous game, or a game that's a simple rehash with next to nothing done to it. Penalising a massive market because of standards. Lol.
@CharlieTango91 I am almost in 100% agreement with you, as a diehard PC gamer I dont even own a current gen console but I know adds aren't everything. Blizzard very rarely runs adds on their games, WoW included (only recently started that, after 10 million players). Console players are just a different breed that for some reason don't mind dropping more money (or at least more often) for a worse game (compared to PC). Pirating does happen on consoles though.
Totally agree with you Brandon, don't know how someone could think that limiting video card changes is going to affect their title in a good way, like you said, all it does is benefit the pirates. Not the actual fans...
the funny is i dont think that companies would c a huge rise in profits, most people would not buy what they dl. Y would I ever buy a direct to dvd movie, unless I pirate it that thing that is never being watched.
On the subject of that piracy issue rased, a game that I bought called SPORE had the same "3 activations" problem. It was stated on the wiki that this Anti piracy measure made SPORE the most pirated game of its time.
Just a funny fact.

@CharlieTango91
Because:
There are only a two sets of hardware (360 & PS3) compared to PC, which has thousands, so it takes more to make it run (driver issues, game coding etc) so there's likely need to have patches, which takes MORE time.
Console games get sold at a higher price (sometimes 50% higher than the comparative PC game) because of things like online sales which don't have 'stock' per se, just a need to generate keys, so on a sale by sale basis, they make more = prio.

@CharlieTango91

@CharlieTango91

Soz 'bout the para's.

@CharlieTango91

@xzvnmz I don't know if they ship to Puerto Rico, but for a configurable pre-built desktop, I'd recommend CyberPowerPC or iBUYPOWER.
