Criss Oliva didn't get to enjoy his fame nearly long enough. Six years isn't nearly enough time for someone with his talent. Kind of reminds me someone like Jimi Hendrix or Randy Rhoads. I'm not comparing styles or abilities. They each had their own distinct abilities and an equally passionate fan-base. My only comparison is that they all died in their prime and who knows where their music or the entire guitar world would be had they lived.
Anyone that dislikes this vid has no concept of what life or music is all about. Bunch of crack heads I do believe!!!!! Love these guys. W/O them, I would have had a many of rough times. They find that inner part of one's soul and rekindles it for them to carry on again
@72cadman they just don't want to believe that the crowds might be gone someday but there will always be us loyal followers of true metal at it's best.

Best Band Ever!!! Anyone who puts this down are Brainwashed and Mindless!! They wouldn't reckognize talent if it walked up and slapped them on their ass.
Savatage made some of the best, progressive balladry ever. They helped start the prog metal genre, but infused it with a musical approach like that of Broadway. I'm sorry, they deserve to be so much more famous than their spawn, Trans Siberian Orchestra. Jon Oliva possesses one of the most distinctive, emotional voices and his brother Criss remains to be one of the most underrated guitarists. Long live Savatage!
One of the best power ballad ever. Such a talented band. Fuck I miss those days... Can't believe some people disliked this song. I usually respect musical diversity and opinions, but when it comes to SAVATAGE, you 4 morons can't make the difference between a Hyundai and an Aston Martin!
Pure Gold!! I have been a savatage fan for six days now...I took a chance on The Apple store suggestions last week and got "orchestra". Wonderful music played from the heart
@rongatai I'm proud of someone ive never met.I take it your young?Dig deep into the Savavaults...its all good stuff. Please pass this onto your friends.you guys have the ability to make this band huge.you grew up on corprate crap and you are gonna get tired of it sooner than most.THIS IS THE BAND who didn't write just to sell albums.they wrote songs.which is unheard of today.most write jingles or movie soundtracks.its all about turn over on your crap.can my crap continue to pay me!!!!!
@boxingin Well, not under the shower, no. Most of the times I am alone in it and the rest I am to busy to sing. But there are always people crying at my shows (although I don't really see why) so I guess I can. And I didn't say anything about his feel, I only mentioned the singing. I mostly agree with you, he has heart, he could be really good if he learned how to sing properly, and I believe he can.
@salahhe I know you didn't say anything about his feel... I did, I said it. Anyway, I think I read somewhere that he took Opera lessons. Him and his brother were supposely trained in the field of Classical music. If you listen to their song 'Strange Wing' at the end of the song he really sings beautifully! Matter of fact he sounds like Jeoff Tate at the end. Check it out...
I sure do miss Criss Oliva. To think what he'd be doing now. Jons vocals and lyrics here are born of pain. I love the line at the end "I've wasted my time till time wasted me" That struck me back in the day and as corny as it sounds, saved me. Made me stop wasting my time. Criss at 3:08 is chilling. BEST band in the world. Saw them when they were Avaar. Man I'm old!!
LEgendary band indeed it's a shame they didn't get the right recognition. They were still touring without the legend Criss Oliva after his death but decided to disappear after 2002 I wish they reunite and make a strong come back! Jon Aliva is also such a legend!
it is the fate of the most brilliant and talented artists to always be neglected. Savatage have not only composed a lot of incredible songs that affects your heart regardless of how many times you have listen to them, but also wrote the some of the best lyrics there are which by understanding them make you a better person.
ive seen SAVATAGE 12 times. one of the best live bands. PERIOD. this song has soo many memories and has got me through some rough times. thanks john for the lyrics.
I was at the theatre the night they filmed this, Coronado theatre in Rockford IL. I used to live above the theatre in an old studio apt when i was 18 and a door outside my apt opened right into the theatre. I sat in the balcony and watched take after take for hours, it was pretty cool, you could feel the flames from the flash pots all the way up in the upper balcony.
Must've been magic! Did they do all of it with playback? I'm pretty sure they must have, but chance could've had it that you got to see Jon and Criss belting out vocals as well as killer guitars live!
On their break we got to talk to them, get autographs, and the drummer gave us a severe lecture on how music business is all BS and they don't make any money, you have to have a back up plan. He told me about his part ownership in the business that was making his drum rack at the time.
It was all playback to tape, drummer was really hitting though. I didn't really fully appreciate the band's music at the time,I only knew of Hall of the Mountain King, which I thought was cool, but they were very nice. I remember at one point they seemed bored because of take after take and instead of playing along to the track they just started moshing in circle, pushing, throwing elbows, etc. a 4 man mosh pit.
@guitarbastard yeah, and how many rolling stones are there for every homeless kid putting on a show down on the corner and sleeping on someone's couch?
@guitarbastard Well we all have our opinions as to what we like as it regards musical mood, taste, or atmosphere. If you like the Stones so much, then why don't you go promote them on a Stones-related video thread. This thread is obviously for Savatage fans.
@guitarbastard well man i just can t understand you... you can t say that this song is bad... ok it might not be your style but this doesn t mean that its a bad song... rolling stones is one of the greatest classic group in rock history and their time has passed... so why cant be a little beat more open in new groups and ideas in such a bad quality music times that we are leaving?

@b4ihang Wow.I'm always trying to reason why the world doesn't get the Savatage sound.i think you have hit the nail on the head.we live in a lazy counrty(usa). Our food is packaged fast our media is packaged fast and the music as well.people don't have the time to slow down and actually listen to music thats not thrown at them via MTV and Radio. If Savatage was on the radio they would be huge.i ask people all the time want bands they like...most can only say the CRAP they hear on the radio..SAD!!!
