  • This song is great from its pure simplicity. There's power in simplicity

  • This song is fucking sick and intelligent as hell.. in the first verse, its about another person, and then the second verse is the same as the first but making it personal and using the word "I" making it pertain to him.. omg this was sick!

  • but i guess diamonds are a "girls best friend" so they cant help but be blinded by the ice of the lil waynes of the world i understand that, just dont make it seem as if alll of us are bad because from what i see woman still lay n down with these so called "no good men so who is really at fault here. woman use the kids as pawns in a very painful and emotional ride for the brothers out there doing for theirs.this is for the men taken care of their littles ones and not worried about babymama drama

  • so much feeling and emotion in this song

  • The Van Guard of Hip-Hop. I got to witness him.

  • does anyone else notice the same verse in the next?

  • @FearlessHQ Yes the first verse is from the perspective of everyone else looking at the little boy. The second verse is from the little boy.

  • @HesterDW thank you so much man

  • @HesterDW i think the first verse is from his mother specifically, or at least that's what i've always thought

  • @pyrorider10 Yea I never knew exactly who it was from but I just knew it wasnt from the boy. It could be from his mom though.

  • how can anyone dislike this?

  • Lupes Whole First Album Was Truth ..........True Hip Hop

  • Lupe hits me so hard everytime. His flow, his lyrics, his temperament, And he preaches a message. He's not rapping about "bitches" or "bling". Allah be with all of you.

  • "You see what my problem is.. that I don't know where my papa is.."

    That hit me pretty hard.

  • i had a drug addict father who never did shit for me but steal from me and make my grandparents cry.. he never really had any effect on me, besides me getting pissed when i lost 50$ to him, and this song never hit me a few ytears back when i used to play it out. but for some reason this song hits me hard now, honestly i cant wait to have a kid and be a better father than what i had

  • @BTNHwishbone awesome, wish you luck in that.

  • @BTNHwishbone Thats your mind maturing, and realization of whats real. :))!!

  • @BTNHwishbone aww thts nice and

  • The horns and violin are absolutely impossible.

  • im growin up with no father, i never met him...and 1st time i heared this song i really had to cry

  • Lupe Is Cool

  • Is it just me or does Lupe have a Tupac flow on this song?

  • @staynez Lupe has a Lupe flow on this song.

  • @pml139 Exactly what I was going to write. Top lad.

  • @staynez just you

  • This song makes me cry.. Fuck anyone who thinks that's funny. I relate to this, because I haven't seen my dad since I was 7.. I can tell it's drastically effected my life. I'm different from other people. It resonates with me.

I'm not saying I need my father in my life, I'm proud of who I am. It's just glad that I have a song to go to, when this situation is on my mind. Until this song I've rarely shown any emotion on the whole thing.

  • @MI7FITthaTECHN9CIAN Beauty of hip hop right there

  • @MI7FITthaTECHN9CIAN i fuccn feel u dog! like this song gets me too. and i'm a girl...it may just be bkuz i'm a girl lol. no but real talk, i've seen the effects shit like this has first hand on ppl. my brother is a completely different man now then i think he could've been, not saying who he is now is bad or anything. but his dad straight up abandoned him when he was only 4. and that was the time i was born and i've grown up my whole life seeing the negative effects that had on him and its ruff

  • evrythng Lu saying is real shit, that i've witnessed. my bro strugglin in school actin out, he's not a bad person at all. and he's super smart, it's just that what happens, no real male role model, no guidence, mom trying to be a father, but only a man to teach a boy how to be a man. and what's crazy is my bro is the one who introduced me to Lu wen i was 15 n it was this very song. it's almost like he was trying to let the music tell me how he truly felt. n he's been my fav rapper ever since

  • the dislike shouldnt be there like lady gagas penis

  • this guy is an example of a role model... only rapper who doesn't do drugs consistently, he only smokes occasionally, not full time like most rappers

  • @Unknown9726 Hopsin is another guy who doesn't do drugs, and talks about it a lot. It's funny he 'kinda' dissed Lupe, he said that he can't skate. People blow it out of proportion like he's saying Lupe is wack. But yeah Hopsin hasn't even touched an L.

  • So what I'm 12 and been listening to lupe since 2008. I realized how he spoke the truth, real wrap.

  • I can listen to this all day...#GoodvsEvil

  • sounds just me and im 10 and my dad left me when i was 2 mouth old i fucking hate him he should of stayed

  • @schiltz21

    You're 10? LOL.

  • @RyanPelley1 how's that funny?. That's a good thing.

  • @RyanPelley1 why the fuck did u lol dumbshit

  • @seksyen4babyface

Because your comment was funny.... Why else would I put LOL 'dumbshit'?

  • Great great song!!

  • feel like i've been lookin for this song

  • Bumpin this all day, err day

  • does anyone see the dislike bar? Good me neither.

  • @CHICAGO STANDUP!!!!!!!

  • which is why i say some men are rich... all i have is my lil girl and all she wants to do is be with her daddy, if its skipping rocks at the river or just sitting..... i love her so much for that, i work everyday and i feel awful when i dont see her, which is why i always tell her she is the best daughter a dad can have. not trying to spill my emotions over youtube but i hate the woman who say there arent any good men or and good brothers left, we here u just blinded by the ice of the lil waynes

  • @kabol69 Well put bro, much love. No homo. <<< Lawlll. :) Real shit tho.

  • @xTakumEx its all love g no homo, i mean just look back how black youth would talk to one another back in the 70s"cat daddy" this and "my brother" that. now its so out of whack they got Asian kids calling each other N***** and its makes me feel like what day did we wake up and hip hop was taken. when did the people start to care more about the beats then the message. i will NOT let hip hop die in my heart cause i need it to live here, its the oil that keeps my motor smooth

  • @kabol69 Man, that's so Real

  • @ILikeFunnyThings526 thank you, its that black man pain iam telling you

  • @kabol69 So true dude !

  • @Sim19797 its something that is personal to a young black man in america trying to do the best with the hand that was delt, iam just glad a piece of my life story was felt, youtube a way to say, the things that cripple from queens to down to the bay... damn i just looked at what i said and seen that i COULD be a piece of a flow session. thank u lupe is all i got to say

  • i hold my son down everyday, whilst holdin down a fulltime job/cookin/cleaning. yes his father provides for him but so do i the only diffrence is i put in the time & i never put myself b4 my son. im not trying bad mouth men cause there's good and bad in everything, but most of the time us women do all we can, we love hard & the man thinks he can have 50 women and run up and down & see his child when it pleases him. The lil waynes of the world dont impress me its the heart, truth& mind

  • @rick24man and for that i must give credit when it is due and your words give me more hope that woman arent all lil kim and trina act n. now days its either woman are sex symbols or so "independent" that a "man" is like punishment. "nice guys finish last" and it couldnt be more real then in 2012. like u said there is good and bad in everything but are there more morgon freemen or lil waynes out there? are there more lauren hills or lil kims? its all about love n self.

  • @rick24man the music is alllll kinds of messed up so the message hasnt been there for years and that alone has black folks men and woman all jacked up. heart truth and mind IS black thats who we are but all our black leaders are gone, and all the black woman that are looked up to black queens are dying (RIP Whitney Houston) and in its place is the likes of nikki minja and beyonce ect. a real woman to me is sada, or laruen hill and ainta baker ect.

  • @rick24man my advice or comment to u is if u listen to lil wayne then nine times out of ten thats their mind set i hate to say it. and if u like me and u like lupe fiasco (FNF) or talib, mos def, bob marley, gang starr, ect u have a feel for bs and it doesnt get threw. lol now men are only as "weak" as he allows himself to be, woman use sex as a weapon and them ak 47 bullets come mighty fast, u right thats our job to slay those demons... but long story short woman have issues aswell

  • @kabol69 We all are to blame in the decline, of a strong black culture, we are lost reguardless of black leaders or not, beacuse we accept the decline of our culture and try justify it as evolution. I don't listen to commerical bullshit, i listen to the true nature of the lyrics and the message it sends. we as strong peole who have faced opression are now oppressing ourselves. This is the break down of black people males and females.

  • @rick24man agree with everything u said. but are people willing to look in the mirror at all their mess ups and better them, i cant say all but i can say that there were was a culture that did alot for us to walk talk and say what we do, and i believe that we have more to say then what the lil waynes ect of the world pick to say. i hear ya loud and clear on that

  • ** you know, some men are "rich" when it comes to money and fame ect. all i got is a lil girl who love me to DEATH and i thank god for that... had her when i was 15 and i am 23 now, yesterday was her 7 brithday and even tho things with her mother iam still and always have been there but this song makes me feel what i fekt when I was a kid thinking about my father, iam not the perfect father but i have and always will be FATHER AND DAD no matter who her mothers "flavor of the week is" love u keke

  • @kabol69 That's why you watch girls pole dancing on youtube right? KEKEKEKEKE

  • @niks12 first and for most this isnt just my account, second that does not shoot down ANY thing i had to say, y u sitting there trying to bust my b****, aint the end of the day dont start no SH wont be no IT!

  • @niks12 third of all keke is my kid sick ass, smfh. room mate wants to know "what does me watchin girls pole dance have to do with what my homeboy said" again dont start no SH wont be no IT

  • @kabol69 awww look at you trying to be all cute and stuff hiding it :c

  • I seriously love this song....

  • 8 people grew up in perfect families and got everything they wanted their whole lives

  • 8 ppl got red marks on their work

  • @darksnommis Neh I got alot of red marks on my work @ school but this is my favorite song:p

  • To me this is the new generations Illmatic

  • @smarte2yahoo

Illmatic is Illmatic, and Food & Liquor is Food & Liquor :)

Two great GOAT hip hop albums.

  • @MeAgainstTheRadio AND 2 GREAT first albums of artists

  • classic album

  • I see it like this; the way a song can make you feel is a sure way that tells me God is real

  • @MomentousSignal so true

  • Amazing song!

  • How does this only have 80,000 views, lupe fiasco's songs are so real and inspirational. First of all the lyrics to song are clever, especially because of how he can flip the same verse to have different meanings and tone. In this first verse he was very declaritive, in the second verse he spoke in a shy way. Like a son trying to stand up to his father. All of lupes songs depict a very emotional and inspirational story.

  • @thesecondpacshakur the first verse is the mother talking to the father, the second is the son talking to his father

  • @thesecondpacshakur It's because people these days don't appreciate good music, i'm proud to say i'm a 15 year old whiteboy and i LOVE this song.

  • Saw him in concert he was awesome! I think he has talent that these other rappers dont have! He has words that actually speak the truth that's why i love him and i can rap this whole song :)!

  • This would go good withthe beat from "Breakdown" by J Cole.. #ColeWorld #F&L2

  • 8 people never had or can;t understand the problem he's talking about

  • Notice that this song is so good that he uses the same verse twice and its still good.

  • @youngj1921 no its a little different. the first one is through the the eyes of the mom and the second one is through the eyes of the son. its almost the same though. and its a great song

  • @hnelgren its essentially the same verse just using different filler pronouns

  • @hnelgren Still basically the same verse.

  • check out the music at thecalalife please great music

  • started crying after hearing this song, shit im going through!

  • Yeah, yall are right. This is the same verse twice and it has such an emotional connection both times. Reason being is that its real. Every time you get told or some one tells you something it's the same thing from different people. This is just so deep that it connects so greatly to a broken America.

  • cool for food for thought but for you i'm a starver.

  • i made a song over this beat about my mom, who died when i was young. Have a listen if you want rap from a fan of the real conscious stuff. /watch?v=LTUcSKMdC2s

  • who else can rap you basically the same verse twice and it sends chills down your spine both times everytime? anyone else? didn't think so.

  • who else can rap you the same verse twice and it sends chills down your spine both times?

  • man, each time I hear this song I gotta wipe the tears starting at my eyes.....touching.

  • @ 3:42 it kinda sounds like Ne-Yo? Is it him ? :)

  • that is how i feel this song :(

  • soft lil wayne fans disliked this

  • I have to say that this song has to be truly amazing to say the same verse twice and bring so much of a different perspective to it...

  • crazy....time flys...TOO FAST...it seems like it was just yesterday I was bumpin this Album in my little white Acura (piece of shit first car) on my way to school everyday...lmao...and smh at the same time...that was almost five years ago.....damn..."time waits for no man"

  • I love poop and rap. LUPPEEE!!!!

  • on every lupe song i see the top comments say that that song is the best track ever made or something like that. ive come to the conclusion that lupe is the best atrist ever and all his tracks are amazing.

  • @crazy4donutz1 YES ALL OF THEM ARE!!!! (:

  • See the dislike bar? Me neither..

  • @tupacicecube96 actually i can distinctly see the red bar u may need reading glasses dont worry i run a business that can get u a good deal only $500 or there are mooshlies

  • @dembears85 ur the one that might need the glasses

  • @dembears85

Sick! Tell that story to your kids one day.

  • @tupacicecube96 thats not what i asked give me ur adress so i can get you the mooshlies

  • Real rapper. He talks about real shit in his life that speaks to others. My dad's father went to prison when he was 7...15 long years... forced my dad to become the 'father' of the house and grow up much quicker than he should have.

This video here shows how I feel about today's shit on the radio: /watch?v=D6ZX6I3wvzA&feature

  • i wish i was the boy who used red maker

  • I honestly don't see why people are so pathetic to ask for thumbs up. Thumbs up if you agree! :D

  • the two reasons you like a song:

    -the song itselt

-the memories it brings you back

    thumbs...

  • Lupe>(insert other rappers name here)

  • Fuck me this song is deep. I was never really close to my Dad whilst I was growing up but growing up, a lot of shit hit the fan and we got closer and closer through the hard times. Now It breaks me thinking of all the time I could have spent with him. Now treasure every moment I spend with him, and Mum for that matter.

Love you always Mum and Dad.

Hold your parents dear guys, they're the most important people in the world.

  • Look, jus stop argueing and listen to these beautiful lyrics . We came here for lupe and not for arguements .

  • I will never be a father like that

  • this song is dedicated to my babygirl and my father i never met my father everythime i hear this it makes me sad

  • I can say that this song makes me tear up every time I listen to it.I haven't seen my dad since I was 7 years old.I'm 15 now. Thanks for being a role model,Dad.

  • Man this song reminds me of my song. I know the world is out to get him I don't know why his dad won't give him a chance...

  • im thankful My dad was there for me I got Learning Disability and it sucks so much My mom left me after I was born she dont give a damn about me She never checked on me never gave me one damn BDAY card FUCK her

  • BESST RAPPER EVERRR ...hands down!!!!

  • hah ha

  • this is my favorite rapper and he can be the best hes a lyric master

  • "You know the world is out to get me...Why dont you give me a chance? Some days..it ain't sunny..but it aint so hard." ♥

  • I hope Lupe got people from the All City Chess Club like Blu featured on F&L2 and i will buy 100 copies if Jay Electronica is featured on the album too

  • This song is simply too great. Lupe is a lyrical genius and an amazing story teller.

He is doing things that rappers can only dream to do. While going mainstream and still having what I'd say probably the best lyrics out there. And for me to come back and listen to a classic off of food and liquor? It's great :D. He's came so far. Give it up for Lupe.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • Growing up in a happy two-parent house, I can't relate to this song. But for some reason I start to tear up listening to it. I guess it shows how good Lupe is at conveying his message.

  • This is some true shit. This was the first song i remember hearing from Lupe. Within like the third time of listening to this i knew all the lyrics because i related to so well. It was like all my thoughts and emotions about my father was put into this song. Man Lupe's the real thing.

  • Fuck my dad he is an asshole he left me, this song would be better if he was in my life.

  • @lwjohnson94 My mom left me bro I feel the same way read my comment
