  • This is EXACTLY why we need to raise more awareness!!!!!! This was one of the most upsetting SM stories I've ever heard! :(

These kinds of things should NEVER HAPPEN!

Did the children get to stay with their parents? Please tell me they did!!

  • Mother of a child who suffered from SM, I am outraged by what human beings can do when they are lacking of good judgement. I know a family who also had social services investigate their home because they could no believe that this was no created by neglect or abuse..it all ended fine, Hope this story does too!

  • Hello. Watching this video, I was furious! It shocks me that the Child Protection Service refuse even to consider this diagnosis of SM - it is completely absurd! I, also, have Selective Mutism and I cannot imagine what an ordeal this must be for this family. This clarifies how desperately we need to raise more awareness - I am publishing a book with my life story with SM just in an attempt to do so. Something has to be done ... Meanwhile, all the best to them. We are always here to help.

    Jess.

  • Wow, thanks for putting this up. I have SM myself & it's great, yet depressing seeing stuff like this. That really is wrong of the SS to be putting them in a foster home. Actually, that makes me feel downright outraged. If you guys need any help with anything you can contact me through my Selective Mutism Awareness page on Facebook or even my Twitter account. I'd be glad to offer advice and things like that. (: I wish them the best of luck. I pray to God that they stay with their parents. ♥

  • @iiTzAmberMarie Thank you, Amber. We will contact you shortly.

  • Thank you for posting this. It's a good reminder that some people still have such archaic thinking - it can be easy to forget that ignorance about SM causes even worse problems than children are punished for not speaking. Being put in a foster home is almost the worst possible thing I can think of to do to a kid with SM. If this in the US, can the SM Foundation or the SMart Center help out? Can we do anything?

  • @Elemarth Thank you for your reply. We are working to establish a network of people who can help. We'll contact you soon, if you don't mind.
