Gusso, this is great. I've spent close to a year watching and rewatching your how-to videos. Good teacher, but can he play? Hell yes he can play--- I absolutely love the Coffee Break number with Charlie Hilbert. Play more dude. We love it!
ok.... that is the best vid i've seen in a while. Just shows that in the end only simple things make us happy. And btw... the 'bad lighting' is great... gives the vid the right feel.
Ive been following your lessons for quite a while and i think ive been better off because of them.
Just wondering, I took the advice of earlier lessons so i have a great 2 draw pitch... until i try a bend. I get the note im looking for, but it becomes all airy and hollow, almost like the wind howling through a gap in a door. Ive tried changing embouchure, etc. Is my harp stuffed, or do i need more time?
Dude, you're an inspiration. Today I've FINALLY managed to bend some notes, after 3 weeks playing, and play the 3 draw. Previously I just couldn't make a sound from the dang hole even if it meant my life :P. Turned out I had to loosen up the reed a bit, and now it plays just fine.
can u post the tabs for this ir was it all just improv? in which case do u have any tips for playing something like this cuz this is pretty cool. thanks
It was all improv. Two tips: learn the 12-bar blues framework so completely that you never miss a beat and always know exactly where you are in it; and 2) take your time.
I think videos like this one, where Adam is just playing are just as important as real lessons, especially for intermediate players, because this is like a riff catalogue.
@adam: I would really appreciate it if you would make more videos like this, featuring other positions and scales. For example a minor scale in third position, because I personally have difficulties improvising on diffrent scales because I don't really have a feeling for when to play what.
Wow what kind of harp is that....what key are you playing....what is an overblow....why did Mr. Magee call himself Satan....
well if you haven't guessed yet......just kidding....the key I will figure out....
Adam as a High School librarian I appreciate what you do on many levels not the least is the role of educator you play...I have to say, with the exception of your first, (which is ice water to the face of the harp community) this is my favorite installment.
Happy B-day man, sorry it's late, been practicing my harp so much, haven't had a chance to get online. Your music is inspirational , your teaching's are excellent, what more can i say. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure it's the Bb as the previous version of the Back Porch slow Blues, some months ago. I purchased the tab from Adam at that time...you ought to, too!
Dr. Gussow, thanks! This is just what I needed. It's videos like this that help get one off a plateau... When I'm floored by techniques, I just need raw inspiration.
You always come back to slow blues... As the Romans had it, "festina lente" (hasten slowly). Tommorrow, I'm taking a break from studying/exams and will be spending some time on the porch. Cheers!
thanks adam BIG UP on your b~day .... thank you for sharing ! put a big smile on my face :) ... now i'm gonna grab my guitar and play along .... hope all is well... thanx again bluesbrother !
Happy birthday! and thanks for all the lessons, you have really helpt me out and inspired me to continue playing harp and practice. Take care. Olle G.
Hi Adam, thanks for this and for the first front-porch-version. I've picked up the harp last October after a 20 years break, downloaded the tab sheet from you website (thanks to Wayne Snyder), and it teaches me to breath within the first 5 bars and to get a start on tongue block. And of course to take my time and keep the beat.
It was one of the most motivating lessons I had.
It would be awesome to have more lessons like this that runs over a full 24 bars.
Thanks for the vid Adam. I remember roughly two years ago, I saw you do that on the front porch. I sat wide eyed in amazement, at how you could possibly do that with a harmonica. Now, 2 years down the track, with your tuition, I watch this and I think... I can do that. Not as good as you, but I can do it.
Hi Adam! Were doing a jam in LIsbon Falls,Maine tomorrow at the Railroad Diner. It,s once a month and my one chance to perform. Keep inspiring me and Happy Birthday!
I like this version of st Louis Blues. I think thats what it was. I bought your tab & Video of this song and am trying to master it. Didn't know that there was another way to play it. Very Cool
i thing you should post more videos like this! i love this! :)
