  • Great interpretation by a Great violinist!

  • i love the way that she always looks like shes crying with the music

  • it looks like she just woke up in 1:03

  • I believe this wonderful concerto is the precursor to the classical violin concerto form, and you can trace a straight line from this masterpiece to the great romantic concertos that followed.

  • I'd say there's a lot of jealousy over this lady's talent. There's probably been for over forty years.

  • Bravo,

As old as this recording is, you did a great job protecting it. Bach is the greatest composer ever, Ms. Chung did a great job in displaying pre-eminence

  • there goes my college audition pieces

  • I love the key of C# minor in Bach's writing. A key of torture, melancholy, emotional expressiveness, beauty. Bach was a genius and a saint.

  • sraordinario emozione unica

  • This is Bach telling us through his music that there is a God in the heavens.

  • Koshkakk: Can you Please post the 3rd movement of this beautiful rendition by Chung. Thanks.

  • I could post the 3rd movement, but I'm afraid it would be poor quality compared to the 2nd movement.

I recorded the TV programme in the early 1980's on VHS tape. Most of the recordings were made in standard mode, however, the movement you are now requesting, was made in half speed mode ( poor quality ). There is a bad 'wobble' in the sound as the video recorder switches from normal mode ( SP standard play ) to half speed mode ( LP long play ).

Do you still wish for it to be posted ?

  • definitely!

  • Please?

  • yes.

  • Bravo! Definitely an inspiration

  • Magic music and fine performance!

  • as a child -35 years ago- I once sat on Mrs Chungs lap after a concert,

crying and all upset about the beauty of her performing Brahms in Holland

she wore the same kind of blue as she wears here

Her performance of Bach comes the closest to the truth I know and I believe this performing is a big compliment to the composer

This is a beautiful and my favourite video.

Your my Hero, Mrs. Chung. I love you!

  • Aww, how sweet.

  • Qualcosa di indefinibilmente meraviglioso.

questo adagio dal suono incantevole del violino

e dalla armonia del genio di Bach.

    Grazie di averlo posto.

  • too fast for my taste. it should be deliberate. passionate. the violin has something poinant to say and should be candid. way too fast !

  • sin palabras..

  • GYD!GYD!GYD!

  • @jsebas19 wow that was mean..

  • I was looking for Bach in E Major. I needed a fix. This was as painful as it was beautiful. Those minor keys are so cruel. Ms. Chung gave me exactly what I was looking for. You can tell she absorbs every note as she produces it. Incredible.

  • I love the minors. Without minor keys there wouldn't be any Slavic Folk Music! LOL.

  • How beautiful

  • eww....she represents a siren or wut?

  • She is just extraordinary. Truly a remarkable musician.

  • that sound is in the zone...what a great key, c# minor.

  • I think most of Chung's fans in YouTube gathered here. Twofinedays, Chulesq, Kwcfan, and Koshkakk. Where's Scottbos68? :)

  • Do you have Chung playing Bach concerto for two violins?

  • Maybe, BWV 1043. Is that what you had in mind ?

  • Who played the second violin?

  • I Don't know his name and unfortunately, the introduction is missing from the VHS recording.

He is asian and probably a little younger than Kyung Wa Chung.

  • yes

  • OMG! Where did you get this DVD?

  • See earlier reply to twofinedays comment.

  • Thanks for posting koshkakk, keep it coming. :)

  • Oh my god! This must be from her days in UK, broadcasted either on BBC or York TV. Where did you find this rare-to-see document? Her Bach was superbe even then!

  • In about 1982 the BBC broadcast a series of programs over 4 consecutive Sundays called Kyung Wa Chung plays Bach. At the time, I recorded the programs on VHS tape.

A couple of days ago I transferred the VHS material to my PC via an external USB TV stick using the S Video output from the VCR. Each section was recorded 3 times and then averaged to reduce noise. The resultant AVI files were then mpeg encoded using TMPGEnc and finally authored to produce a DVD.

  • I think what I posted here -the one she plays with Galway- is one of the 4 programs, right? I bought the VHS tape made by Phillips, and tranferred to DVD. Do you have all four programs? What did she play in other programs?

  • James Galway ( is that who you mean ? ) was not in any of the 4 programs.

    The performances were:-

    BWV 1041 Violin - A Minor

BWV 1060 Violin and Oboe - C minor

    BWV 1043 2 Violins D Minor

    BWV 1042 Violin - E Major

  • No, the concert with Galway is another thing. From the British film and TV program database, I found at least three programs featuring Ms Chung in 80's; one is the concert with Galway, the other this one with Scottish CHamber from BBC, and another with Pascal Roge from York TV.
