Early in the video the Islander announcer says "I think the crowd may be celebrating too early" (or something like that), and then when Turgeon Scores and gets hit, he says "And after Turgeon scores and shows his elation about giving the Islanders a 3 goal lead...." (or something like that). I'm not sure if the guy announcing the game knew what the score was. That goal gave the Icelanders a 4 goal lead.

There is no place in hockey for this kind of cheap shot. I can understand frustration of being close to elimination, but to hit a defenseless player like that is just plain stupid! That single hit changed the rest of the Islanders season because Turgeon was a great player for the Isles'. Hard to believe that the Caps retired his jersey!

Much in the same way that Claude Lemieux is remembered for his hit on Kris Draper, Dale Hunter is remember for his hit on Turgeon.

Was Hunter a great player? Sure. But if he didn't want to be remember for this, he should have thought twice about destroying a player in a vulnerable position.

This was unfortunate, but Dale Hunter was not the only player capaple of a cheap shot, this is hockey and it happens. This is not how people should portray him. He was an awesome player and he would fight no doubt- that's what was so fun about him, he didn't take anything from anyone. This clip doesn't apply- it was dirty but Dale does not deserve to be remembered by this.

The most important thing to remember, other than the absolute disgusting nature of the hit on Turgeon, is that this probably cost the Islanders a chance to beat the Candiens in the semi-finals. Islanders put up a hell of a fight against the Canadiens, but they were just missing that extra spark. That's what Turgeon would have provided.

fighting in hockey has nothing to do with it......this was a completely illegal cheapshot. there's no place for this in the NHL, or hockey at all. this is the kind of thing we're trying to get rid of. open ice hits are fine...you catch someone looking down and not paying attention, he gets laid out. but intentionally causing serious harm to someone like this is uncalled for. he could have ended Turgeon's career
