For those of you that are too retarded to remember your history, in the 90's, Apple's PPC Processor was way faster than any Intel. Apple switched to Intel in the mid 200's because PPC stopped making improvements.
@schmidtbag Good artists copy, great artists steal. Intel stole, and VASTLY improved. The share prices and market share (or lack thereof!) of both Intel and AMD speak volumes, beginning way before 2007 up till now. I suggest you go look at them.
And I'm not contradicting myself, you're simply annoyed that I am disassembling this argument.
@dzylon58 intel makes a lot of money off of intel macs. companies are not too worried about getting their feelings hurt. and switching to intel was a pretty dumb decision in my opinion. switching to amd processors would have been much smarter.
the cell processor is PPC based and thats pretty damn fast. its 64 bit but if you have a 64 bit ppc mac, it can theoretically work on ps3. i agree though, apple shouldn't have moved to intel. i think if they were to go to any company, it should have been amd. amd at the time of apple's conversion to intel was faster than intel. macs would also be much cheaper if they went with amd
@schmidtbag On top of that, the MAC G5 uses ATi GPUs. So they would get t nice performance increase if they went with AMD because of the brand. Also with the dual Xeons, AMD has nothing (YET) to compete that. There Optirons i dont think come close.
@GT5Enthusiast actually, amd's 8 and 12 core opterons outperform intel xeons in many tests (mainly multi-threaded tests) and these processors are nearly $500 cheaper than the xeon equivelant, less power consuming, and almost an entire ghz slower. amd lately is focusing on multithreading performance, while intel focuses more on what gets the most FLOP/s per physical core. amd's new focus isn't exactly ideal for today's desktop computers, but it will be ideal in the future.
@schmidtbag But Apple aren't about building the fastest or the cheapest computers possible. They are about building the best quality products possible. And if you're seen many other Apple vids, you'll probably have seen Steve Jobs saying 'Apple don't ship junk' so there you have an explanation as to why they chose Intel over AMD.
@communistkgb your comment is contradictory, because intel used the x86-64 architecture that amd invented, intel took a shortcut when it came to quad cores (where amd made the first true quad core), and it took until i believe the first i7, i5, and i3 processors for intel to FINALLY ditch the unidirectional fsb. although amd fell behind after 2007 and made a mistake on the first phenom release, they absolutely did not ship junk because intel followed in their steps 3 times.
@MrMacIsPhat lol, prob wouldnt b G9... maybe G7 if were lucky.. because POWER 7 is the new power processors... and they kick serious ass... standard clock 4ghz 8 cores in one chip... so dual is 16 cores, 32 virtual cores and 8ghz :D
But he got fired (or 'laid off')in 1985 and was brought back into the company in 1996 when Apple bought NEXT. So I wonder if this was made in that 11-year window...
And now they use Intels in iMacs! Fail!

bullshit i have an oldschool g4 and a shitty celeron beats it hands down.
jtmagicman25 6 months ago
@jtmagicman25 Thats probably because you run Tiger or Leopard on it... thats like running Windows Vista on your old celeron...
pioneerz450 6 months ago
@pioneerz450 funny, the old celeron would run vista great, but whatever. what os goes on a 500 mhz g4. and where can I find it?
jtmagicman25 6 months ago
@jtmagicman25 You would probably like to run OSX 10.2 or at most 10.3
pioneerz450 6 months ago
@pioneerz450 where can I find a legit download?
jtmagicman25 6 months ago
@jtmagicman25 It's a small one called Mac OS X (goes up to Tiger). I have a celeron PC. I installed Windows 7 on it. It was pretty slow.
