I really failed to see how Typhoon even won this battle. All they did was run away and got pummeled in each corner. Storm II lost a plate of armor, incredibly superficial, big whoop, it's a fricken battle scar to show their dedication and fearlessness.
The way Robot Wars ended was just wrong, I wish they'd at least consider continuing with the shows and putting them online, even if they won't show them on tv.
i say storm 2 won, typhoon had major internal damage since the blades didn't rotate anymore, and storm 2's aggression was intense, typhoon was simply running away. i don't think a panel lost from storm 2 means its screwed
since when did damage add more points...all the other times robots have done that and they didn't win and yet this one time Damage carries more.....I call bullshit
Heh, typhoon deserved that win. Storm was more agressive, but didn't do SHIT to actually cripple typhoon.
Typhoon caused serious havoc for a defensive bot (speed and agility over damage), while storm just stat its robot pants by never actually causing SERIOUS damage to typhoon.
Did you know the cheering for Typhoon 2 was added in afterwards because the booing was so loud that you wouldn't have been able to hear any cheering whatsover. The producers rigged it, and while I adore the show, I'm glad it was canned, if channel 5 had continued to pervert my image of Robot Wars I would probably no longer love it like I do
We need Robot Wars back, on the BBC, with legitimate and unbiased producers who won't cheat to get the results they want and think the audience will want
I don't think Typhoon 2 should have won that. I do realise that it caused a lot of damage to Storm 2 at the end of the bout but I don't think it was enough damage to swing the decision. Oh and er... HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO WRECK THE ARENA WALL? Do you have something against the arena or something?
@xtheamazingax lol I don't think they had a problem with the arena wall....it's just when your going fast you can't stop and sometimes hitting stuff gets you stopped
If you look at it the way they say they do, Storm should have won, sure. But look at that damage on Storm. Typhoon was the more deadly robot without question. I think the judges were just tired of robots that just pushed as their weapon.
@staviwavi222 You do know that it was rigged right? And that Storm actually broke one of Typhoon 2's wheels, but when the final was paused because of damage to the arena the Typhoon team were allowed to fix their damaged wheel
I love Robot wars :) I even built some fighting robots out of knex a couple of years ago and I still have them. The champion is a robot based on Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2, with a lifter on the left and a great knife ,which did some serious damage on hte others, on the right. I still can't name it though :)
listen closely and youll hear jp say the arena wall was smashed twice in the final it was all a big cut storm 2 damaged typoons weapon and stopped it from working and then the arena got smashed in which typhoon were allowed to fix there weapon although storm 2 was about to win
So, by this logic, while Storm was more controlled and aggresive (2 points in total) Typhoon II was more more stylish (OR lucky depending on how you see their dodging/button mashing to get out of Storm's charges) and caused damage while suffering none. Storm II - 2 Typhoon II - 3. Had the judges made the decision based on face value Storm would have been the victor, but this would have gone against every decision made previously over the course of the entire show and thus break the rules.Sorry:(
@TeamDWorld Storm actually caused far more damage, but this was cut out of the final show
There's a reason when they filmed the world championship a very short time after this that Storm 2 was able to compete and win, whileTyphoon 2 was too damaged to take part
For years I've thought the judges screwed us with this decision and have ranted about it on other videos. However, now that I take another look at the fight I kinda see that the decision was right but ONLY because of the scoring. Since there are four categories one must count for two points while the others just one - Damage is the key to Robot Wars and has the property of the two.(Cont)
Who do you blame for screwing Storm 2? Mentorn or Channel 5? Since Mentorn didn't really have a history of trying to fiddle the results while on the BBC you can only think that Channel 5 were doing some dodgy deeds to fix it.
@TheSmithersy what about mortis in the 2nd series semi finals? their pinball run was rigged to let them go through while napalm was unfairly eliminated.
@Blompcube: Hmm, maybe it could be because the area operators used the spikes when they weren't supposed to which unfairly disabled Mortis? I can't remember if they used the spikes during the other robot's runs.
@TheSmithersy yes, mortis got their tracks damaged by the floor spikes so they scored 0 points, but they were given another chance. they didn't agree that they should be given another chance so on their 2nd try they just attacked the house robots instead. they were then given 100 points even though they'd only really scored 35. that's why the napalm team were so upset about being eliminated.
am i the only one who agrees with the judges on this one..1) typhoon had hardly any damage whereas storm 2 did. 2) style i would also edge to typhoon because storm missed on its attack a little more i think, but mainly the damage ... typhoon had non ;)
Plus remember guys its all a bit off fun... and i LOVE IT :D
@samduffield actually if you notice. typhoon is no longer spinning at the end. the drive mechanism for the spinner was broken. that is far more major damage than losing a piece of armor. and that piece of armor was ripped off NOT by typhoon but by the lifting arm of Storm 2. look closely and you see it pulled off AFTER typhoon was already across the arena. so the damage portion was only based on the superficial aspect.
all in all i still agree with you on the most important part. its for FUN :D
If the Typhoon guys drove better they could've won this fair and square by running away and clipping Storm 2 at opportune times, instead they ran into the wall and drove like idiots.
As clumsy as they were they should've been at least penalized for damaging the arena (Storm 2 would get one free hit), instead Typhoon gets an extra life.
Style, control, damage and agression, no way Storm were beaten on these criteria. Even if Typhoon won on damage then Pussycat/Stinger should have won s4 over Chaos 2. No consistency. Plus Typhoon deliberately smashed the wall to stall for time. Other robots had been disqualified for such dangerous behaviour.
I just don't understand why BBC2 transferred this programme over to Channel 5 in the first place. Could it be that Mentorn's contract with the Beeb had expired and wasn't renewed after series 6?
I just don't understand why BBC2 transferred this programme over to Channel 5 in the first place. Could it be that Mentorn's contract with the Beeb had expired and not been renewed after series 6?
I am gettin sick of all the conspiracy theories on this video! This was filmed in 2004, it is now 2011! People, get over it! Typhoon 2 won! No amount of debating will make Storm 2 get the title off of Typhoon 2! It is 7 years gone now! Get over it!
Storm 2 won the fight all in all,ok it was just a ramming box like tornado+ typhoon was basically a spinning top but if you look at the Tornado vs razer final from previous war they both altered their machines to suit themselves to get a better advantage than the opposition, worked 4 tornado in the end,if people want to create machines who know will best flippers etc then i guess producers will let them,Both machines deserved to be in the final>everyone knows all in all storm 2 won... just. :D
This decision was likely what killed Robot Wars. In their desire to make the fight more interesting, Mentorn killed their franchise by cheating. The judges even apologized to Storm 2 after they learned that the producers hid damage from them on Typhoon 2.
@NightHawk12to81 The decision did NOT kill Robot Wars. The arena was too expensive to repair, that's what killed it. Someone said this on the Top Comments on this video. That comment isn't around any more for some reason.
Also you can blame typhoon 2 for getting robot wars axed... the goverment axed it becuase of "Health and Saftey" even though the people in the pits rarley got hurt and no one in the audience was hurt.. infact no one got hurt.. the worst that happened was one of the stinger's team caught their trousers on fire in series 5... the roboteers build and maintain these robots at their own risk.. and its their responsibility if they get hurt... stupid reason why it got axed...
be honest, that's just an uninformed guess, isn't it?
consider that the show moved from its prime time slot on BBC2 to a random slot on channel 5 and then disappeared after one series on 5. that seems to be a clue as to why the show was axed.
Tornado and storm 2 are seriously boring.... they win their battles the cowardice way..
just shunting the opposition to peices so they dont have a chance to fight back... at all.. glad that typhoon 2 beat them even though they may of cheated
Also instead of shitty perspex glass for arena side walls.. Why not some form of hard metal that is transparent?
Typhoon 2 cheated if you had even read robot wars wiki. They fixed their robot when the wall was broken, some of their driving chains were dislodged, serious damage, for storm 2 it could be fixed by 2 minutes of welding. Typhoon 2 was completely beaten in every way by storm 2 and this is coming from a fan of typhoon. I will give you, it was definately an unfair decision. Plus, everything was edited out of the show. If you want more PROOF, read the robot wars wiki on storm 2.
@LILCHRIS5X i've read that too mate it seems that no matter what storm 2 wasnt going to win this match with all the backstage polotics getting in the way like the the firestorm match and the tornado fight
@statusphonics Sometimes it's easy to forget it was just people having fun with robots they built with their money, not something that affected the whole world in a major way. The object was to build the best robot, not to make it interesting, even though Storm 2 was. Storm 2 were the best robot either way. They had everybody cowering. It didn't need to go political, but that's kinda what ruined robot wars for me.
You are all moaning about the decision? Well here is how Typhoon 2 won:
1. Typhoon 2 was the more entertaining robot constantly narrowly avoiding the Pit! Winning it style!
2. Storm 2 should learn how to weld, as that is why they lost that front panel!
3. Storm 2 lost significant power at the end of that fight, they just couldnt push Typhoon 2 around as much, which was caused by all the hits from Typhoon 2. This won them damage.
THE STORM 2 TEAM ARE SORE LOSERS!!!! STOP MAKING EXCUSES!!!!
@NightHawk12to81 If you watch the fight closely, you do realise that storm 2 has lost a lot of power as the battle goes on! It didnt have the pushing power later on! I think this is because of all the hits that typhoon inflicted on it! And also it was Storm 2s fault that they lost that front panel, as they do not know how to weld! Stupid! It is nobodys fault but their own! Also people should stop hating on typhoon2 as it was not their fault that the judges picked them!
@MrPokemonMad It's not Typhoon's fault, but the fact is that Storm 2 totally dominated the fight. The producers fixed it so that Typhoon would win anyway. They tried to disqualify Storm after the win over Firestorm, lifted the pit up to put Tornado back in and then allowed Typhoon to completely repair the robot during the fight. That's why Typhoon won on damage, all the damage Storm caused was wiped out by Typhoon's illegal repairs.
For me Storm 2 is a tornado clone! The judges just wanted a change i suppose! And anyway Storm 2 DID have more visual damage, but dont know about internal damage! I am not a judge afterall!
@DarkEternal250 I can't disagree with the covering up of Typhoons damage, but the pit was raised with tornado because it was Refbot that pressed the release button.
@Gavin17259 I know, I thought it would have made future series (had they happened) far more interesting. I was just saying that the active weapon rule wasn't entirely based on trying to upset the storm team as some people would like t o believe : )
Its a shame that Storm 2 lost because it was "boring", though something tells me Robot Wars didn't like what Storm 2 would do to their walls when shoving people around.
Anyone can answer these questions. Who yould win in these fights. (Razer vs Typhoon 2) (Hypno-Disc vs Storm II) (Typhoon 2 vs Hypno-Disc) (Tornado vs Typhoon 2) (Storm II vs Razer) (Chaos 2 vs Storm II) (Hypno-Disc vs Terrorhurtz) (Chaos 2 vs Gravity) (Hypno-Disc vs Razer) I would like some answers and explanations please thank you.
Storm II may have been picked on by the producers but Typhoon 2 was hardly pampered on their journey to the title. They were put against a flipper in every single fight except for X-terminator:
Bigger Brother, Hammerhead 2, Iron-Awe 2.1, Thermidor 2, Atomic, and then Storm 2 (if you count the lifter)
Hate the prducers but don't take it out on Typhoon 2. They are a good robot who got caught up in the producer's meddling.
Also, sounds to me like Technomancer2008 had money on Storm 2 winning or something, complaining about a weapon being too powerful for a TV show that was based on damaging other robots is just madness. Hardened steel discs were banned because they could shatter, there was absolutely no chance that Typhoons 50kgs of solid titanium shell was going to shatter. There are too many other questions to answer all these questions about the "Typhoon Conspircy" most of which are nonsense.
I cant imagine how bad a state the sport would be in if some of the people on here had their way. If the series had continued in mainstream on TV there would have been more pushing boxes produced by teams with increasingly strong armour and powerful drive. This would have been very very boring for the viewers to watch. Also, there were more popular teams than the Storm guys who were not allowed to enter this series because of the active weapon rule, such as the Stinger team.
Plus after the battle it was discovered that Typhoon was internally damaged. According to the Storm II website, the 3rd world championships were filmed later that day, but guess what? Typhoon didn't compete...
@JandTwu oh will you please JUST CAN IT! this stupid conspiricy you S2 fanboys go on about sickens me, because A. S2 team should learn to weld. B. typhoon getting away is hardly cowardly, they were being evasive, all S2 did was run into them, not very stylish at all. C. typhoon had a better construction. (i.e. no shoddy welding to worry about) which is proven by the distinct lack of damage internally or externally, (internally because it was still going by the end, S2 was limping) so shuddup!
When you see the uniforms of the crew of typhoon, they are wearing similar uniforms to the RAF. i am sorry, but all i saw was ROYAL AIR FORCE, not air cadets. they besmirched the good name of the RAF with this antic, and should be disowned by the RAF for the abysmal show they put on, in an effort to beat an opponant they were clearly outclassed by.
typhoon DID deliberately drive into the wall! I am ashamed of the way in which an obviously blatent act was ignored by the judges. Damage? they damaged the arena! that alone should have caused them to have been removed from the fight. No-one was allowed to use the hardened steel discs because they were dangerous to use, why was a weapon, which was clearly capable of damaging the arena be allowed to be used??? does not make sense in my eyes!!!
but in the rule because i tried to enter and failed got knocked out by tsunami in prelims and they said all robots must have an active weapon hence why storm 2 had to have the flipper basically they were saying the robot must have a moving weapon but not be a weapon it's self like a full body hammer now full body hammers are the same as full body spinners in a sense that just the robot is the weapon hence the it does not have an active weapon like full body hammers hence it should not be allowed
@13LinkinPark666 You tried to enter? What was your robot's name? I heard Shredder fought Tsunami in the qualifiers, did it damage you? The reason why a full body spinner is seperate from a rammer is because part of the shell spins seperately from the base of the machine, ie Typhoon's wheels are on a part of the body seperate from the spinner, and it drives around with a motor powering a weapon, kind of like Hypno Disc. With a rammer, its just the whole chassis ramming into the opponent.
@13LinkinPark666 An Active Weapon is defined as 'A mechanical system which is independent of the robots chassis, supporting structure and drive train.' Typhoon has a chassis under its spinning outer shell, Storm II's chassis is the weapon and is hence not moving.
I agree with the ruling; simply using the robot as a hammer is not fun or clever. There is very little skill in designing and operating such a machine, where as Typhoon has been very well designed and engineered and is well controlled!
@TheBlackEventorizon Of course there is skill in designing and operating Storm 2. It was a formidable competitor, well designed for its purpose - pushing other robots around, and was incredibly reliable.
If anyone in this grand final displayed a lack of control, it was Typhoon 2- slamming into the arena wall twice, when it clearly isn't designed to do that.
Even the crowd showed more support for Storm II, it's shocking, the scoring has NEVER been like that in the history of Robot Wars. Good job it was axed, far too many polotics and shifty acts going on, it would have only gotten worse.
@R33Racer I agree but i didn't need to be axed. Most programms are slightly corrupt anyway. The Judges has always done it on Damage above everything else.
@FaceForwardGaming You can see the difference with style, control and aggression. If they only gone for damage then why dont people just go in with 17 anglegrinders gaffa taped onto a Nikko toy car? Either that or just put a panel of 5 year olds on. What im saying is theres alot of skill involved in the other 3 cryterias, damage doesnt exactly require alot of brainwork and skill. If Storm 2 was obitirated then maybe it would be ok but a tiny pate of metal and a few scrapes? Hardly a runnaway win
@jacobmasta Damage has always been worth more than aggression. It just hasn't been so decisive in a match before. I agree Storm II should have won though.
@jacobmasta Its been like this since series 1. In the scoring, points for style are totalled up, control points are added and multiplied by 2, aggression by 3, and damage by 4. If you ask me, its unfair when a machine gets damaged and it barely affects its performance and having pretty much dominated the fight. The judges aren't to blame though, the producers came up with this flimsy logic. I would just have control, aggression and damage and judge how much the damage affected the performance.
@jacobmasta As much as this turn of events would justify it, this wasn't the reason. One of the judges said the arena was becoming too expensive to repair, and I'd also guess it was because ratings were declining. For one thing, Five kept on moving the timeslot for Robot Wars around.
lol at this discussion. This is basically to sum it up.
1) Storm II should have won.
2) Decision against them was bullshit.
3) Typhoon team straight up lied about their robot being "perfect". Sure, no weapon working = perfect :/
Robot wars was ultimately a gameshow through and through and naturally match fixing will occur but this was the lowest match fixing in the entire show which contibuted greatly to its cancellation.
storm 2 should have won i think but still nice to see a spinner win for once, got sick of watchin hypno-disc lose to flippers in previous wars when it was by far the most entertaining bot
Storm 2, even with damage, should have won because they were far more aggressive, controlled and stylish. Typhoon 2 ran away for the majority of the fight
Then there's that lifting arm that they were "forced" to put on, what a burden that thing was for them, only won them fight after fight. The only battles that they won without it was a judged decision. Horrible treatment indeed. Besides, the active weapon rule applied to everyone, including tornado. The biggest problem about all this though is the fact that all of these claims are unprovable gripes from the the Storm team's moaning mouths, making them untrustworthy, but idiots lapped it up.
you can clearly see the pit rising up when tornado "escaped" from it, and you can clearly see a drive chain slither out of the bottom of typhoon in this fight, just a few moments before that bit of storm II's front comes off. i doubt the pit thing was anything to do with match-fixing, but you gotta admit, a broken drive chain is pretty severe damage for a robot that is "good as new", far more significant than a piece of armour plating, which was self-inflicted anyway.
I'm getting really bored of these comments about Storm 2's alleged unfair treatment. The championship moaners said the producers didn't want them to win because the didn't want a "box with wheels" winning, so why would they try to cheat storm in a fight against tornado? A fight that storm won anyway? As for this fight, maybe the should have built it better then it wouldn't have fell apart. Typhoons chain drive broke after the battle had to be stopped, so they had every right to repair it.
@Shagger i think they weren't trying to cheat anyone out of anything in storm II vs tornado because both robots were boxes on wheels, and putting the two boxes on wheels in a fight together guaranteed that at least one of them would go out. you can very clearly see the pit rise up when tornado is pushed in, but i think they did it to make it seem more dramatic to the TV audience rather than to give tornado a lifeline.
Typhoon shouldnt have won. Also, I can't think of one robot that could beat Storm II, but a few could possibly get typhoon. Maybe pussycat or Hypno-disc?
@Jammyt5 dude storm would have done the same if it were up against razer fair enough it was not very sporting but it was not breaking the rules so yeah so in the 3rd wars was hypnodisc unfair for having a uber powerful and inovative weapon no so yeah but i wish razer was in the wars and fought typhoon they would have thrashed him
@13LinkinPark666 Razer vs Typhoon would be a cool battle, though i doubt Razer would win. Typhoon's cone shape would likely cause the crushing arm to just slide down rather than penetrate the body like with Backstabber and Aggrobot in series 3, Plus Typhoon seems to be faster than Razer and could run away, get up to speed and then either tear Razer's wheels off or hit it until its motors die from the stess.
@kratos85 I don't think you understand my point, have you not seen what Razer did to Matilda? Plus, as outlined by my previous reply, there were many more reasons for the producers to not like Storm 2, however flawed they were. All this is proved by the Storm 2 team, and there was no mention of Sir Killalot or that incident.
@MasterofMayhem1394 there is a comment by vinnie blood somewhere on youtube, he said the producers wanted Razer to destroy Matilda, so they could rebuild it to be much better. Stuff like making it more powerful and replacing the chainsaw with the flywheel.
@kratos85 That's rubbish, first of all how would Storm 2 know that would happen? And also why not have a grudge like that against Razer for what it did to Matilda?
No, the reason the producers wanted Storm 2 to lose, was because it was made to win, not to entertain. It seems they were paranoid that the ratings would go down if they let such a 'boring' robot to go all the way. That's also why they made it have a weapon and tried to disqualify it after the fight against Firestorm.
All this is a shame as the final between Razor and tornadoes. Storm2 deserved to win in every aspect. If it was a fair fight would have to consider the damage that has typhoon2 repaired during the break. Also we have all seen that Storm2 attacked continually moving in an optimum manner, while typhoon2 fled. it is clear that the winner had already planned from the beginning, that explains the pathetic scene where he shows the piece of Storm2.
@dagga70 Apparently one of the judges said the show was cancelled because the Arena was costing too much to repair, and i wouldn't be surprised if low viewing figures were a factor as well (channel five switching around the schedule). This is the only judges decision on Robot Wars that can really be called unfair due to the Producers letting Typhoon repair and the judges being unaware of it, while other times, the fights are edited to make the fight look closer or show favour to one robot.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock "...the Arena was costing too much to repair..." Yes, a lot of damage was inflicted during the 7th Wars. Matilda once greatly shattered the arena wall, Typhoon 2 smashed the arena wall twice in the Grand Final, Supernova was stuck on it's side and shredded the arena floor in the Third World Championships, etc. I bet thousands of pounds were spent for all that repairing.
its kind of unfair that damage gets the leeway. storm 2 were far more aggresive. typhoon 2 did some good damage at the end but never actually ever went in for the attack. also the driving control from storm 2 was very good.
Hey?? Storm 2 was treated bad becouse the producers thought it was going to be a boring robot? BUT WHAT ABOUT TORNADO? TORNADO WON IN THE GRAND FINAL 6 BECOUSE THEIR WEAPON DID SO THEY COULDN'T BE PUT DOWN IN THE PIT BY RAZOR! Tornado had the same weapon normally as Storm 2, and every one thought they sucked bad but noooo, Storm 2 is the boring one. That sucks so bad. I always hated Tornado.
why is everyone wining over something that happened 6 years ago the fact is the decision cant be changed now and youll all have to just face that.
Also you basically saying a robot has to not be imobilized/suffered internal damage for the damage to count. take hypnodic vs bigger brother for an example bigger brother was destroyed by hypnodisc but still was able to go on and win.
i know that robot wars isnt on air but the rules of who one the game if it was a tie should of been changed.the robot that altematly where the best robot that played a better gameshould of won.
I remember watching this on tv. And couldn't actually believe it.... The whole fight (100% of it) Storm2 was on top! The part that came off was damaged from them slamming the other robot so freeking hard!!! Ridiculous descion!!!
I know this may have been mentioned but I'll say it anyway, Typhoon 2 knew they were losing, (take the part where Storm II lifted them) which is probably why they decided to take out the wall again. And as many have said, all Typhoon did was "run away"
Losing one panel counts as 'major damage'?, there was no damage to the internal components and the robot was fully functional (including weapon). Typhoon clearly lost power to the weapon as the fight was ending, so if anything typhoon was more damaged than Storm. Typhoon spent most of the battle running away from Storm and damaging the arena side wall, that must have gone down as bad driving by them. It's almost as bad a decision as when Razer came up against Tornado, what were they thinking?
@DarkEternal250 ur wrong but only slightly typhoon lost its weapon was repaired mid fight then the weapon and the drive died so it should have been stopped
and i just noticed it was the grinder not typhoon that did the"damage" to storm
@DarkEternal250 ur wrong but only slightly typhoon lost its weapon was repaired mid fight then the weapon and the drive died so it should have been stopped
I don't think this is too controversial. The judges always favoured robots that caused peripheral damage over those that bossed the fight but caused no external damage. See Hypnodisc v 101, Dominator2 v Firsestorm or Wild Thing v Prizephita as other examples. Nevermind if you disagree with the policy: the judges applied it evenhandedly, so Storm2 weren't victims of a conspiracy.
Storm2 could have won anyway: if it's weapon were slightly better, it would have had Typhoon over and out.
I mean, the active weaponry rule was bought in because the Producers thought Rambots, especially Storm 2 were boring. Hello? Tracie taking on Matilda and Sergeant Bash? All Torque defeating Matilda in the Trials? Tornado smashing Berserk, Pussycat and more into submission? Storm 2 putting Steel Avenger out of the arena through sheer ramming power? Look at Robots like Cobra, Metalis and Spin Doctor, they show that putting on an active weapon does not instantly make a Robot more entertaining.
Storm 2's treatment was disgusting. First the Producers forced the team to put on an active weapon, then they put it in a Heat with 2 feared spinners Shredder and Supernova. Then they tried to disqualify it after its fight with Firestorm, claiming it never used its weapon and supposedly broke the rules. Then they raised the pit back up for Tornado, then they allowed Typhoon 2 to repair its weapon and didnt let the Judges know about this or the dislodged drivechains at the end of the fight.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock looking closely, 6:48, you can make out something falling out of Typhoon 2, which looks very "chain" like. Storm 2 undoubtedly won that fight, Typhoon 2 being given it, is just wrong. It's so clear from the footage that Typhoon 2 was about to be finished... it had nothing left, no weaponry or tactics. Storm 2 only lost 1 front plate... which barely effected it at all considering Typhoon 2's weapon had long since failed.
@DoomsdayR3sistance I never noticed that before, yeah the chain just sort of slithers out as Typhoon drives towards the edge of the cpz. According to the Storm 2 website, someone inspecting the arena after the fight found chains on the Arena floor and offered to throw them up to the box where they were being interviewed by Craig, but the Judges were told that Typhoon was undamaged and were only made aware of Storm 2's panel and tubing that came off. That shot really adds weight to the arguement.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock I only caught it by luck when I decided to look it up, also at 6:06 you can see them hitting a button called "self-destruct", I highly suspect that was their "Spin" button, and you can see Typhoon 2 does not spin at all after this point.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock i know it was disgraceful this final is rigged and full body weapons are not allowed the rules state so why the fuck is typhoon here his body is a spining weapon the whole body is a weapon therefore it should not be allowed to begin with just because it spins does not make it all right and typhoon were lucky not to go up against firestorm if they did they would have been slaughtered so it was one of the luckiest competitors ever tbh storm should have won not typhoon
@13LinkinPark666 Full body spinners are allowed, Corkscrew, Spin Doctor, Warhog, there have been plenty before Typhoon. Just wondering but where did you read this?
@TheLegacyofHitchcock Well, in the first round of it's heat, in heat I, it had two very similar horizontal discs, Supernova and Mayhem. I don't think the producers expected Storm 2 to own everybody in it's path all the more with a forced active weapon. It Storm 2 could get a DQ for no active weapon, then so should have Robot the Bruce, T.R.A.C.I.E, most featherweights and many other pushing robots would have been banned in earler series. Damn bias producers. -_-

IMO, this was a far, far more controversial battle than Razer vs Tornado. I feel convinced there was a little fixing going on.

If you look at it the way they say they do, Storm should have won, sure. But look at that damage on Storm. Typhoon was the more deadly robot without question. I think the judges were just tired of robots that just pushed as their weapon.
staviwavi222 2 months ago in playlist More videos from MVerstappen
@staviwavi222 You do know that it was rigged right? And that Storm actually broke one of Typhoon 2's wheels, but when the final was paused because of damage to the arena the Typhoon team were allowed to fix their damaged wheel

I love Robot wars :) I even built some fighting robots out of knex a couple of years ago and I still have them. The champion is a robot based on Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2, with a lifter on the left and a great knife ,which did some serious damage on hte others, on the right. I still can't name it though :)

Storm II - best engineered robot ever seen on this show IMO.
TheScaryChipmunk 6 months ago
So, by this logic, while Storm was more controlled and aggresive (2 points in total) Typhoon II was more more stylish (OR lucky depending on how you see their dodging/button mashing to get out of Storm's charges) and caused damage while suffering none. Storm II - 2 Typhoon II - 3. Had the judges made the decision based on face value Storm would have been the victor, but this would have gone against every decision made previously over the course of the entire show and thus break the rules.Sorry:(
TeamDWorld 6 months ago
@TeamDWorld Storm actually caused far more damage, but this was cut out of the final show
There's a reason when they filmed the world championship a very short time after this that Storm 2 was able to compete and win, whileTyphoon 2 was too damaged to take part
Murdock129 2 months ago
For years I've thought the judges screwed us with this decision and have ranted about it on other videos. However, now that I take another look at the fight I kinda see that the decision was right but ONLY because of the scoring. Since there are four categories one must count for two points while the others just one - Damage is the key to Robot Wars and has the property of the two.(Cont)

Who do you blame for screwing Storm 2? Mentorn or Channel 5? Since Mentorn didn't really have a history of trying to fiddle the results while on the BBC you can only think that Channel 5 were doing some dodgy deeds to fix it.
TheSmithersy 6 months ago
@TheSmithersy what about mortis in the 2nd series semi finals? their pinball run was rigged to let them go through while napalm was unfairly eliminated.
Blompcube 5 months ago
@Blompcube: Hmm, maybe it could be because the area operators used the spikes when they weren't supposed to which unfairly disabled Mortis? I can't remember if they used the spikes during the other robot's runs.
TheSmithersy 5 months ago
@TheSmithersy yes, mortis got their tracks damaged by the floor spikes so they scored 0 points, but they were given another chance. they didn't agree that they should be given another chance so on their 2nd try they just attacked the house robots instead. they were then given 100 points even though they'd only really scored 35. that's why the napalm team were so upset about being eliminated.
Blompcube 5 months ago
The series 2 and 3 grand finals were the only grand finals that didn't go to a judges decision.
Gavin17259 7 months ago
am i the only one who agrees with the judges on this one..1) typhoon had hardly any damage whereas storm 2 did. 2) style i would also edge to typhoon because storm missed on its attack a little more i think, but mainly the damage ... typhoon had non ;)
Plus remember guys its all a bit off fun... and i LOVE IT :D
samduffield 7 months ago
@samduffield I agree with the judges too. It was all decided fairly...
This is someone from someone who doesn't like Typhoon all that much...
RandomRabbit2OO7 6 months ago
@samduffield actually if you notice. typhoon is no longer spinning at the end. the drive mechanism for the spinner was broken. that is far more major damage than losing a piece of armor. and that piece of armor was ripped off NOT by typhoon but by the lifting arm of Storm 2. look closely and you see it pulled off AFTER typhoon was already across the arena. so the damage portion was only based on the superficial aspect.
all in all i still agree with you on the most important part. its for FUN :D

thewwefan0001 7 months ago
Oh, and a chip of Storm 2 definitely counts as damage, but not "MAJOR DAMAGE!!!" as they put it, I'm certain they were used to real major damage.
Ryoku75 7 months ago
If the Typhoon guys drove better they could've won this fair and square by running away and clipping Storm 2 at opportune times, instead they ran into the wall and drove like idiots.
As clumsy as they were they should've been at least penalized for damaging the arena (Storm 2 would get one free hit), instead Typhoon gets an extra life.
Ryoku75 7 months ago
Style, control, damage and agression, no way Storm were beaten on these criteria. Even if Typhoon won on damage then Pussycat/Stinger should have won s4 over Chaos 2. No consistency. Plus Typhoon deliberately smashed the wall to stall for time. Other robots had been disqualified for such dangerous behaviour.

This decision was likely what killed Robot Wars. In their desire to make the fight more interesting, Mentorn killed their franchise by cheating. The judges even apologized to Storm 2 after they learned that the producers hid damage from them on Typhoon 2.
NightHawk12to81 10 months ago 8

If you want more PROOF, read the robot wars wiki on storm 2.

statusphonics 10 months ago
@statusphonics Sometimes it's easy to forget it was just people having fun with robots they built with their money, not something that affected the whole world in a major way. The object was to build the best robot, not to make it interesting, even though Storm 2 was. Storm 2 were the best robot either way. They had everybody cowering. It didn't need to go political, but that's kinda what ruined robot wars for me.
LILCHRIS5X 10 months ago
@LILCHRIS5X yeah same mate when producers and excecutives decide who they want to win you know you dont have a competetive show anymore
statusphonics 10 months ago
NeonSplash1990 10 months ago
@NeonSplash1990 It was a very poor decision. Just because of one lucky hit, they hand it to Typhoon. Absolutely dumb.
NightHawk12to81 10 months ago 3
@NightHawk12to81 If you watch the fight closely, you do realise that storm 2 has lost a lot of power as the battle goes on! It didnt have the pushing power later on! I think this is because of all the hits that typhoon inflicted on it! And also it was Storm 2s fault that they lost that front panel, as they do not know how to weld! Stupid! It is nobodys fault but their own! Also people should stop hating on typhoon2 as it was not their fault that the judges picked them!
MrPokemonMad 10 months ago
@MrPokemonMad It's not Typhoon's fault, but the fact is that Storm 2 totally dominated the fight. The producers fixed it so that Typhoon would win anyway. They tried to disqualify Storm after the win over Firestorm, lifted the pit up to put Tornado back in and then allowed Typhoon to completely repair the robot during the fight. That's why Typhoon won on damage, all the damage Storm caused was wiped out by Typhoon's illegal repairs.
NightHawk12to81 10 months ago
@NeonSplash1990 typhoon ran away for most of the fight and storm 2 were far more aggresive and controlled

ThaEmperor2000 10 months ago
Storm II may have been picked on by the producers but Typhoon 2 was hardly pampered on their journey to the title. They were put against a flipper in every single fight except for X-terminator:
Bigger Brother, Hammerhead 2, Iron-Awe 2.1, Thermidor 2, Atomic, and then Storm 2 (if you count the lifter)
Hate the prducers but don't take it out on Typhoon 2. They are a good robot who got caught up in the producer's meddling.

1414wayne1414 10 months ago
Also, sounds to me like Technomancer2008 had money on Storm 2 winning or something, complaining about a weapon being too powerful for a TV show that was based on damaging other robots is just madness. Hardened steel discs were banned because they could shatter, there was absolutely no chance that Typhoons 50kgs of solid titanium shell was going to shatter. There are too many other questions to answer all these questions about the "Typhoon Conspircy" most of which are nonsense.
anttaz 11 months ago
I cant imagine how bad a state the sport would be in if some of the people on here had their way. If the series had continued in mainstream on TV there would have been more pushing boxes produced by teams with increasingly strong armour and powerful drive. This would have been very very boring for the viewers to watch. Also, there were more popular teams than the Storm guys who were not allowed to enter this series because of the active weapon rule, such as the Stinger team.
anttaz 11 months ago
@anttaz The reason for the active weapon rule was to stomp out all the boring pushing boxes (as you put it).

(i.e. no shoddy welding to worry about) which is proven by the distinct lack of damage internally or externally, (internally because it was still going by the end, S2 was limping) so shuddup!

typhoon DID deliberately drive into the wall! I am ashamed of the way in which an obviously blatent act was ignored by the judges. Damage? they damaged the arena! that alone should have caused them to have been removed from the fight. rhysyboy37 1 year ago
but in the rule because i tried to enter and failed got knocked out by tsunami in prelims and they said all robots must have an active weapon hence why storm 2 had to have the flipper basically they were saying the robot must have a moving weapon but not be a weapon it's self like a full body hammer now full body hammers are the same as full body spinners in a sense that just the robot is the weapon hence the it does not have an active weapon like full body hammers hence it should not be allowed
13LinkinPark666 1 year ago
@13LinkinPark666 You tried to enter? What was your robot's name? I heard Shredder fought Tsunami in the qualifiers, did it damage you? The reason why a full body spinner is seperate from a rammer is because part of the shell spins seperately from the base of the machine, ie Typhoon's wheels are on a part of the body seperate from the spinner, and it drives around with a motor powering a weapon, kind of like Hypno Disc. With a rammer, its just the whole chassis ramming into the opponent.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock ok and that is fair enough and no we got flipped out by tsunami quickly which was a shame but oh well
13LinkinPark666 1 year ago
@13LinkinPark666 An Active Weapon is defined as 'A mechanical system which is independent of the robots chassis, supporting structure and drive train.' Typhoon has a chassis under its spinning outer shell, Storm II's chassis is the weapon and is hence not moving.
I agree with the ruling; simply using the robot as a hammer is not fun or clever. There is very little skill in designing and operating such a machine, where as Typhoon has been very well designed and engineered and is well controlled!
TheBlackEventorizon 1 year ago
@TheBlackEventorizon Of course there is skill in designing and operating Storm 2. It was a formidable competitor, well designed for its purpose - pushing other robots around, and was incredibly reliable.
If anyone in this grand final displayed a lack of control, it was Typhoon 2- slamming into the arena wall twice, when it clearly isn't designed to do that.

R33Racer 1 year ago 10
@R33Racer I agree but i didn't need to be axed. Most programms are slightly corrupt anyway. The Judges has always done it on Damage above everything else.
FaceForwardGaming 9 months ago
@FaceForwardGaming You can see the difference with style, control and aggression. If they only gone for damage then why dont people just go in with 17 anglegrinders gaffa taped onto a Nikko toy car? Either that or just put a panel of 5 year olds on. What im saying is theres alot of skill involved in the other 3 cryterias, damage doesnt exactly require alot of brainwork and skill. If Storm 2 was obitirated then maybe it would be ok but a tiny pate of metal and a few scrapes? Hardly a runnaway win
R33Racer 9 months ago
Damage being worth more points than agression was BULLSHIT. That's NEVER been the case before.
jacobmasta 1 year ago
@jacobmasta Damage has always been worth more than aggression. It just hasn't been so decisive in a match before. I agree Storm II should have won though.
Gavin17259 1 year ago
@jacobmasta Its been like this since series 1. In the scoring, points for style are totalled up, control points are added and multiplied by 2, aggression by 3, and damage by 4. If you ask me, its unfair when a machine gets damaged and it barely affects its performance and having pretty much dominated the fight. The judges aren't to blame though, the producers came up with this flimsy logic. I would just have control, aggression and damage and judge how much the damage affected the performance.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
imo the reason the show was cancelled was because of this 'fixing' of the fight.
jacobmasta 1 year ago
@jacobmasta As much as this turn of events would justify it, this wasn't the reason. One of the judges said the arena was becoming too expensive to repair, and I'd also guess it was because ratings were declining. For one thing, Five kept on moving the timeslot for Robot Wars around.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
lol at this discussion.

Storm 2, even with damage, should have won because they were far more aggressive, controlled and stylish. Typhoon 2 ran away for the majority of the fight
2kpal10 1 year ago
Then there's that lifting arm that they were "forced" to put on, what a burden that thing was for them, only won them fight after fight. The only battles that they won without it was a judged decision. Horrible treatment indeed. Besides, the active weapon rule applied to everyone, including tornado. The biggest problem about all this though is the fact that all of these claims are unprovable gripes from the the Storm team's moaning mouths, making them untrustworthy, but idiots lapped it up.
Shagger 1 year ago
you can clearly see the pit rising up when tornado "escaped" from it, and you can clearly see a drive chain slither out of the bottom of typhoon in this fight, just a few moments before that bit of storm II's front comes off. i doubt the pit thing was anything to do with match-fixing, but you gotta admit, a broken drive chain is pretty severe damage for a robot that is "good as new", far more significant than a piece of armour plating, which was self-inflicted anyway.
Blompcube 1 year ago
I'm getting really bored of these comments about Storm 2's alleged unfair treatment. The championship moaners said the producers didn't want them to win because the didn't want a "box with wheels" winning, so why would they try to cheat storm in a fight against tornado? A fight that storm won anyway? As for this fight, maybe the should have built it better then it wouldn't have fell apart. Typhoons chain drive broke after the battle had to be stopped, so they had every right to repair it.
Shagger 1 year ago
@Shagger i think they weren't trying to cheat anyone out of anything in storm II vs tornado because both robots were boxes on wheels, and putting the two boxes on wheels in a fight together guaranteed that at least one of them would go out. you can very clearly see the pit rise up when tornado is pushed in, but i think they did it to make it seem more dramatic to the TV audience rather than to give tornado a lifeline.
Blompcube 1 year ago
storm 2 was robbed of the 7th wars trophy, they were clearly the better robot in this fight, and the entire series!

@Jammyt5 dude storm would have done the same if it were up against razer fair enough it was not very sporting but it was not breaking the rules so yeah so in the 3rd wars was hypnodisc unfair for having a uber powerful and inovative weapon no so yeah but i wish razer was in the wars and fought typhoon they would have thrashed him
13LinkinPark666 1 year ago
@13LinkinPark666 Razer vs Typhoon would be a cool battle, though i doubt Razer would win. Typhoon's cone shape would likely cause the crushing arm to just slide down rather than penetrate the body like with Backstabber and Aggrobot in series 3, Plus Typhoon seems to be faster than Razer and could run away, get up to speed and then either tear Razer's wheels off or hit it until its motors die from the stess.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock
But Razer has excellent turning and good driving skills allowing to turn just before Typhoon hits. Razer has the odds against Typhoon 2.
RobotsGreatWar2 1 year ago
@kratos85 I don't think you understand my point, have you not seen what Razer did to Matilda? Plus, as outlined by my previous reply, there were many more reasons for the producers to not like Storm 2, however flawed they were. All this is proved by the Storm 2 team, and there was no mention of Sir Killalot or that incident.
MasterofMayhem1394 1 year ago
@MasterofMayhem1394 there is a comment by vinnie blood somewhere on youtube, he said the producers wanted Razer to destroy Matilda, so they could rebuild it to be much better. Stuff like making it more powerful and replacing the chainsaw with the flywheel.

MasterofMayhem1394 1 year ago

Also we have all seen that Storm2 attacked continually moving in an optimum manner, while typhoon2 fled. it is clear that the winner had already planned from the beginning, that explains the pathetic scene where he shows the piece of Storm2.

the reason this show was cancelled was because of unfair decisions, good thing storm 2 won the world championship
dagga70 1 year ago
@dagga70 Apparently one of the judges said the show was cancelled because the Arena was costing too much to repair, and i wouldn't be surprised if low viewing figures were a factor as well (channel five switching around the schedule). This is the only judges decision on Robot Wars that can really be called unfair due to the Producers letting Typhoon repair and the judges being unaware of it, while other times, the fights are edited to make the fight look closer or show favour to one robot.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago 7
@TheLegacyofHitchcock "...the Arena was costing too much to repair..." Yes, a lot of damage was inflicted during the 7th Wars. Matilda once greatly shattered the arena wall, Typhoon 2 smashed the arena wall twice in the Grand Final, Supernova was stuck on it's side and shredded the arena floor in the Third World Championships, etc. I bet thousands of pounds were spent for all that repairing.
mclarenguy22 9 months ago
its kind of unfair that damage gets the leeway. storm 2 were far more aggresive. typhoon 2 did some good damage at the end but never actually ever went in for the attack. also the driving control from storm 2 was very good.
darkshredder95 1 year ago

Ridiculous descion!!!

major damage? the commentator is biased too
MRacer001 1 year ago
storm shouldve won that.... no doubt.
Thegorrila 1 year ago
I know this may have been mentioned but I'll say it anyway, Typhoon 2 knew they were losing, (take the part where Storm II lifted them) which is probably why they decided to take out the wall again. And as many have said, all Typhoon did was "run away"
year2000problem 1 year ago
Losing one panel counts as 'major damage'?, there was no damage to the internal components and the robot was fully functional (including weapon). Typhoon clearly lost power to the weapon as the fight was ending, so if anything typhoon was more damaged than Storm. Typhoon spent most of the battle running away from Storm and damaging the arena side wall, that must have gone down as bad driving by them. It's almost as bad a decision as when Razer came up against Tornado, what were they thinking?
MatthewJepson1 1 year ago 2
@MatthewJepson1 Bad driving is no part of the judges descision.
EcBaVidz 1 year ago
@EcBaVidz of course it is.... style CONTROL damage and aggression......
Thegorrila 1 year ago
@EcBaVidz Style, CONTROL, Damage and Aggression are the categories, so yeah bad driving should be taken into account.

@DarkEternal250 ur wrong but only slightly typhoon lost its weapon was repaired mid fight then the weapon and the drive died so it should have been stopped
and i just noticed it was the grinder not typhoon that did the"damage" to storm

I don't think this is too controversial. The judges always favoured robots that caused peripheral damage over those that bossed the fight but caused no external damage. See Hypnodisc v 101, Dominator2 v Firsestorm or Wild Thing v Prizephita as other examples. Nevermind if you disagree with the policy: the judges applied it evenhandedly, so Storm2 weren't victims of a conspiracy.
Storm2 could have won anyway: if it's weapon were slightly better, it would have had Typhoon over and out.

@MrP0gg It is controversial. Search up Storm 2 controversy and see what really happened

TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
Storm 2's treatment was disgusting. First the Producers forced the team to put on an active weapon, then they put it in a Heat with 2 feared spinners Shredder and Supernova. Then they tried to disqualify it after its fight with Firestorm, claiming it never used its weapon and supposedly broke the rules. Then they raised the pit back up for Tornado, then they allowed Typhoon 2 to repair its weapon and didnt let the Judges know about this or the dislodged drivechains at the end of the fight.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago 26
@TheLegacyofHitchcock looking closely, 6:48, you can make out something falling out of Typhoon 2, which looks very "chain" like. Storm 2 undoubtedly won that fight, Typhoon 2 being given it, is just wrong. It's so clear from the footage that Typhoon 2 was about to be finished... it had nothing left, no weaponry or tactics. Storm 2 only lost 1 front plate... which barely effected it at all considering Typhoon 2's weapon had long since failed.
DoomsdayR3sistance 1 year ago
@DoomsdayR3sistance I never noticed that before, yeah the chain just sort of slithers out as Typhoon drives towards the edge of the cpz. According to the Storm 2 website, someone inspecting the arena after the fight found chains on the Arena floor and offered to throw them up to the box where they were being interviewed by Craig, but the Judges were told that Typhoon was undamaged and were only made aware of Storm 2's panel and tubing that came off. That shot really adds weight to the arguement.
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock I only caught it by luck when I decided to look it up, also at 6:06 you can see them hitting a button called "self-destruct", I highly suspect that was their "Spin" button, and you can see Typhoon 2 does not spin at all after this point.
DoomsdayR3sistance 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock
Right on storm 2 should be the winner
xfactor330 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock i know it was disgraceful this final is rigged and full body weapons are not allowed the rules state so why the fuck is typhoon here his body is a spining weapon the whole body is a weapon therefore it should not be allowed to begin with just because it spins does not make it all right and typhoon were lucky not to go up against firestorm if they did they would have been slaughtered so it was one of the luckiest competitors ever tbh storm should have won not typhoon
13LinkinPark666 1 year ago
@13LinkinPark666 Full body spinners are allowed, Corkscrew, Spin Doctor, Warhog, there have been plenty before Typhoon. Just wondering but where did you read this?
TheLegacyofHitchcock 1 year ago
@TheLegacyofHitchcock Well, in the first round of it's heat, in heat I, it had two very similar horizontal discs, Supernova and Mayhem. I don't think the producers expected Storm 2 to own everybody in it's path all the more with a forced active weapon. It Storm 2 could get a DQ for no active weapon, then so should have Robot the Bruce, T.R.A.C.I.E, most featherweights and many other pushing robots would have been banned in earler series. Damn bias producers. -_-
