It wasn't warner bros who sacked donner it was the salkinds. After the 1st one they wanted Lester to direct and they got rid of Donner. Rumor has it that Richard Lester asked Donner to help him direct the rest of Superman II, was refused due to the salkinds involvment. Also Morgot Kidder got into a fight with the Salkinds During II so that's why in III she doesn't appear as much. But Ricard Donner was asked to film the 4th one nut turned it down.
