Why ? Because he took on the nobles, the monied types.

Richard the Lion Heart bled the country dry leaving John in an impossible position.

But he still passed acts that were positive, not least - for the first time, expecting the rich to pay their way.

I am Hungarian and wish I could understand why the Danish soldiers speaks Hungarian language in the film, but I did enjoy because it is a well made movie. I recommend to watch it to everyone, who likes the historical movies wich one contains lots of violence.

Great movie given the budget it must have had. Lots of medieval violence so it is definitely not for the kids. Not historically accurate but fun nonetheless.

This is an AMAZING movie. But the description is wrong. There was only 1 Knight Templar and some "friends" who fought to defend Rochester Castle. Loved this movie!!!!!

This was a great movie, I just watched it on netflix and was pleasantly surprised. I always look up movie ratings on imdb before picking one and this was lowly rated. However, the battle scenes were intense and surprisingly realistic/historically accurate. Even the goofball Paul Giamatti played his role of King John well.  -Definitely oneof the better Medieval-aged films

Who cares about historical authenticity if the action is alright? If I want history, I go to university and listen to my boring lectures, but if I want action, I'll love this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't get into local cinemas. When it comes to gore and somewhat realisitic impact scenes, this film is highly entertaining (not like the cheap CGI effects in Centurion, for example). Purefoy becomes a good guarantee for solid action films.

Film was not on a low budget....film was well made, historically accurate in its depictions of defending and attacking a castle, realistic hand to hand combat, blood and gore from being hit and maimed by swords, axes, maces, armor. a very good film should get more praise.

I loved this movie, a lot! However, i noticed sort of an error with the description. Technically, the castle wasn't defended by a group of templars. If I recall correctly, only one of them was a Templar.

But, as I said, it was one badass film =D

Good movie, but it turend out that either i speak fluently the 13th century's danish dialects, or the "danish mercenaries" are actually speaking hungarian... o_O :D :D Funny to hear hungarian words from a danish footsoldier's mounth :)

@DontFeedTheTroll Ahh it's magyar..something. I was watching this movie and thinking that it wasn't danish, or old danish or norse...or a bad accent attempt at any of those....Oh well, at least hungarian is more a nordic language than a slavic language (although finnish line, not norse line) =)

@maxem79 Yep it is,but it still can't be danish at all.What those guys speak in this movie is a perfectly fine&clear hungarian, without any country-like sings accent, so that's why it's a real moodkiller.I showed this movie to my brother, and we couldn't stand it without laughing sometimes... even the most horrifying bloodsheds,or sadest scenes were killed by these "comments" in the background.Our weekly motto is now the last line of the mercs: "Itt vannak a franciáÁÁK!!"(The French are here) :D

And yea I agree it's fail with a wrong language..must be much worse for hungarian viewers :P

You can clearly tell that the film was on a low budget, but I personally felt they did a great job with what they had and while not very historically accurate, it made for a fun watch :)
